They have done much to crack the concrete ceiling in a relatively short period of time,” said Professional Women in Construction (PWC) National president Lenore Janis, addressing a capacity crowd of industry leaders at the PWC Salute to Women of Achievement luncheon held May 20 at the Yale Club in NYC. Noting that the number of women who have achieved success in a once all-male bastion continues to grow, Janis said that this is a milestone year for PWC — its 30th anniversary. Guest of honor Patricia J. Lancaster, FAIA, president of The Lancaster Group, whom Janis introduced as “a stalwart friend to PWC, a woman of courage and brilliance,” encouraged women to: trust themselves and their abilities; build a knowledge base since “knowledge is power;” and mentor those beginning careers. Michelle Y. Arrington, senior project manager, the Hugh L. Carey Battery Park City Authority (BPCA), said that she has always been advised to “Shoot for the moon, because even if you don’t make it, you’ll land among the stars.” Anthony Peterson, project associate of the BPCA, presented. Photo by Howard Wechsler struction and Tishman Interiors, encouraged attendees to “open up greater opportunities for young men and women” and challenged all to help “transform this industry.” Hauserman was introduced by Peter Marchetto, president of Tishman Construction Corporation who called her “one of Tishman’s best and brightest” and commended her “tenacity and strong work ethic.” Jennifer L. Carey, president, JLC Environmental Consultants, Inc. (WBE), expressed pride in seeing “women succeed” and observing “the changing workforce grow and develop.” Connie DeLaigle, Affirmative Action coordinator, Port Authority of NY & NJ, presented. Cindy R. Feinberg, P.E., LEED AP, partner, Jacob Feinberg Katz & Michaeli Consulting Group, LLC (WBE), credited her father, Edward Feinberg, P.E., now a member of her company, with imbuing her with an early love of engineering. Kim L. Ferguson, principal, Robert Derector Telecommunications, noted that she has witnessed inroads made by women and that the number of women in the industry has increased significantly since she began her career. Kay Lee, general sales manager for SimplexGrinnell, presented. Jennifer C. Graham, IIDA, Assoc. AIA, LEED AP, director, M. Moser Associates, ac- knowledged often being “the only woman in the room,” and said that she was born to a family that encouraged her to accept “no boundaries” to growth. Maureen Warnicke, senior specification consultant for Legrand North America, presented. Adanivia “Ada” Jimenez, operations accounting controller for The Louis Berger Group (LBG), said that she was drawn to LBG for “the opportunities it held for all.” Jim Stamatis, P.E., group vice president of LBG, presented the award saying “what defines Ada is her passion for her work.” Lina Gottesman, president of Altus Metal & Marble Services, presented the award for Nancy Luk, president, ABN Realty LLC (WBE), calling her “the only woman solo real estate developer in New York City.” For additional information, call 212.486.7745; contact pwcusa@pwc.org or visit www.pwcusa.org.
