Maybe? Let’s find out.... T he simple act of installing a new sewage system requires a little more effort than just digging a suitably sized excavation and dropping the right tank into it. In many cases it can take several months of liaising with Regulatory Authorities to acquire the correct approvals to allow the work to begin in the first place. Private Sewage Systems All discharges into ground need to be approved by the Environment Agency so that they can carefully control the environmental impact of the scheme. The application process for a Consent to Discharge Licence can take up to four months. But before the application form can be submitted a proposal must be drawn up to provide an acceptable solution. This is where T K Services unique abilities begin to show their true worth. Our experience in dealing with the Environment Agency enables us to design a scheme that is more likely to meet with their approval and thereby reduce the amount of time taken to issue the licence. Connection to a Public Sewer Often a property can be connected to the public sewer by way of a sewage pumping station. A pumping station can be used to replace an old private sewage system if the public sewer is close enough to make financially viable. Firstly, and most obviously, permission must sought from the owner of the public sewer before a connection can be made. This is very often the easiest hurdle to clear and can be agreed in a matter of days. However, most public sewers are located in the public highway and this is where it becomes a little more involved. Before any work can commence in the highway the contractor must apply for a Street Works Licence from the local Highways Agency. As part of the application process we must write to all of the utility, telecoms and pipeline companies so that they can provide us with details and drawings that indicate where their apparatus is positioned in the highway. For each scheme we may have to write to almost thirty such companies, which is why we have staff dedicated to applying for the details and chasing up the responses to ensure that we experience minimum delay at this crucial stage. Once all of the replies are returned we have to interpret them to ensure that there is a safe route for the pumped sewage main that we wish to install. Once a safe route has been established we must then submit an application form together with proof that we hold adequate insurance, our engineers are qualified to work in the highway and hold valid Supervisors and Operators certificates together with a traffic management proposal, method statement and risk assessment for the scheme. We must also demonstrate that all waste will be disposed of in a responsible manner. So what makes T K Services unique? Well, there are not many of our competitors that will take on the entire scope of work that is required to get a scheme from original concept through to an operational system. Perhaps understandably for some, getting the relevant approvals requires too much effort and so they put that responsibility back on the client. We believe that our job is to make the whole process as painless as possible for the client. Yes, we will need information from you in order to complete the applications. But we will deal with all of the correspondence on your behalf. All necessary site meetings will be carried out by our team. That is not to say that you will be excluded from the proceedings. We welcome your involvement and will keep you fully up to date with any developments. We have also pioneered the use of trenchless technology to install pumped sewage mains in order to minimise disruption in the highway and to help reduce costs. So, can anyone install a sewage system? Well, maybe? But maybe the question should have been whether they can get the approval to begin the installation in the first place? T K Services ….The Waste Water Specialists Installation Sewage disposal systems nearly always require some kind of civil engineering work. Naturally, because of the type of installation, work on sewage systems needs to be carried out to a very high standard. T K Services offers a full, prompt and efficient supply and installation service. Your treatment plant, septic tank, pumping station or cesspool is installed to the manufacturer’s specification by people who specialise in the below ground installations which these projects require. On site our installation team ensure that your project is completed on time and in good order. Work is complete when one of our commissioning engineers have connected and tested the units for you. As well as being approved by WPL to supply and fit their full range of products we can specify systems from most of the major manufacturers in accordance with the clients requirements. We are confident that the work we undertake is completed to the highest standard – our previous customers have told us so. We operate one standard of quality only. We apply the same level of expertise, commitment and attention to detail to every project regardless of size. Before giving you a quotation one of our engineers will visit your site to assess the specific site conditions. He will then prepare a detailed quotation for your approval, and advise and obtain any permissions and consents required. All of our installations are completed in accordance with Environment Agency requirements and building control guidelines. We use only the highest quality materials and our methods of construction ensure that we do not experience problems with faulty workmanship. By working closely with our customers we minimise the disturbance to their daily routine that can arise from drainage works. Upon completion we aim to leave your premises as tidy as possible and if you wish we can arrange for any landscaping work that may be required. If you wish to install your plant yourself or if the installation forms part of a larger contract, we will be happy to provide all the assistance you require. We can advise on: plant suitability and location; licences, permits and consents that may be needed; installation and commissioning requirements Approved Distributor T K Services ….The Waste Water Specialists Servicing Professional service for your peace of mind. All sewage treatment plants and pumping stations have electrical and mechanical components that will benefit from regular maintenance. The T K Services Service Department offers a wide range of Service Agreements that can be tailored to match your precise requirements. We can include related equipment within the scope of a contract including grease traps. Our service engineers have over 25 years experience in the industry and are fully conversant in servicing all types of sewage treatment plants and pumping stations. In addition our computerised systems ensure that your regular service visits are never missed. After each visit you will receive a detailed report on the condition of your system together with recommendations for any additional works that may be necessary. Before a Service Agreement contract is entered in to, we will provide you with a detailed quotation pack, which includes Service Schedules for your particular system so that you will know what work will be carried out at each visit. One of the most common causes of problems with sewage treatment plants is incorrect emptying of the sludge in the primary settlement tank. We can arrange for our service visit to coincide with your tanker so that we can supervise the procedure to ensure that it is carried out correctly. In our experience a properly maintained sewage system will provide greater reliability and will more consistently achieve the water quality limits set out in your Environment Agency Consent to Discharge. Regular servicing also helps to reduce or eliminate expensive repair bills that occur as a result of complete plant failure. We keep stocks of the most common spares so that should the worst happen, your system will be back in full operation as quickly as possible. If you have lost your Operation & Maintenance manual then we can provide replacements for most types of system. EMERGENCY CALL OUT SERVICE If you experience difficulty with your system and require a service visit then a quick call to our Service Department should be your first move. We will endeavour to get an engineer to you as quickly as possible. Service Agreement customers enjoy a 15% discount from our standard service rates. REPAIRS AND UPGRADES As well as routine service work, our Service Department is responsible for all types of refurbishment work from minor repairs to major rebuilds. We aim to carry out any works as quickly as possible and will always try to work around your time requirements. Some older systems may benefit from some of the latest developments. We have improved many systems by fitting updated components to prolong their service life. In some cases a new control panel can improve the reliability of the system and in other cases a new distribution system can improve the efficiency and performance. Each system is assessed individually, taking into account all factors that can affect its overall performance. Approved Distributor T K Services ….The Waste Water Specialists Previous Projects If a picture speaks a thousand words…... Over the years we have been involved in a number of highly prestigious and varied projects. Every day there are thousands of people all across the country are relying on a sewage system that has either been supplied or installed by T K Services. We have installed sewage systems for well over 1,000 homes, many of these being single dwelling sewage treatment plants similar to some of those shown here. As you can see we make every effort to ensure that they are as discrete as possible. Many businesses have also benefited from our particular expertise. We have installed sewage treatment plants, pumping stations and grease degradation systems to suit various applications ranging from small industrial units to shipbuilding yards and from small restaurants to pubs, hotels and golf courses. The small number of projects represented here demonstrates our flexible approach to a variety of applications. Ranging in size from systems that serve two or three residents to ones that serve thousands of visitors or workers. In most cases a completely new system is installed discretely below ground. But occasionally an existing system can be incorporated into the design and share the overall load. On two occasions we have even installed new sewage treatment plants above ground: the first was installed at a ship builders yard in North Devon and was designed to be relocated as the site expanded. The second was installed on the edge of an estuary and was pump fed to avoid the high water table. We have also installed systems for adoption by the local Water Authority. Experience has taught us that each installation is unique and our policy is to apply the same level of commitment and attention to detail to all of our installations regardless of size they are all important to us. Pumping Stations T K Services ….The Waste Water Specialists If you are close to the main sewer the T K Services Prestige Range of packaged pumping stations provide an efficient and cost effective means of connection. Advantages Outstanding value for money Choice of concrete, GRP or plastic chambers High quality pumps specifically selected from leading manufacturers Low running costs Robust concrete chambers reduce need for concrete backfill Compact design does not require large plant for excavation or handling No odours or noise nuisance Low visual impact - 600mm cover, flush with ground Reliable operation - simple design, high quality components Easy installation The next best thing to gravity connection to the main sewer Design Each system is custom designed to suit your particular requirements Flexible range of pump and combinations to suit all applications Low maintenance requirements chamber Why use a Pumping Station? The Prestige Foul Water Pumping Station Range is designed to pump the raw effluent that is discharged from homes or business premises. They use two high-quality submersible sewage pumps, operating on a duty/standby basis via a local control panel. Its cylindrical shape and concrete construction make it exceptionally strong. All Prestige foul water pumping stations are constructed from the highest quality components, including the use of stainless steel fittings throughout. Chamber Design The pumping station chambers are engineered to high standards and manufactured in either durable GRP or concrete ring sections. All connections, both inlet and outlet, and tank capacities can be adapted to suit individual site requirements. When specifying a GRP chamber the package comes pre-assembled, enabling it to be delivered to your site ready to be installed in a prepared excavation. It is then a simple matter to fit the pumps into the chamber and to mount the control panel into its housing before commissioning. If you select a system that is constructed from concrete ring sections, most of the assembly is carried out on site as part of the installation. Because of this the system design is much more flexible and the finished product precisely matches your unique project requirements. All of our packaged pumping stations are supplied with controls which enable fully automatic operation. Most models are also equipped with a high level alarm. Pump Selection We use a wide range of submersible pumps, predominantly from the ITT Lowara, KSB and Flygt ranges – all are well known for quality. These include macerator, grinder, solids handling and clean water pumps. A full range of flow and discharge head characteristics allow you to specify the control of discharges from most sites. Installation Pumping stations can be incorporated into the design of any private sewage treatment plant. This can be particularly helpful when drainage inverts are deep or when it is necessary to control fluctuating loads. T K Services provide a full supply and installation service for pumping stations and rising mains. This service includes liaising with local authorities and public and private utility companies to obtain the relevant permissions and licences. Where possible we will use the latest trenchless technology to lay the rising main in the highway to reduce costs and minimise disturbance. Trenchless Installation of the pumped rising main How the Pumping Station Works The incoming sewage is held in the sump of the pumping chamber. When it reaches a predetermined level it triggers a float switch, which in turn activates one of the pumps. The pump keeps running until the level drops below the ‘stop’ float switch. This sequence continues with each of the pumps operating alternately to ensure even wear and tear. In the unlikely event that one of the pumps develops a fault then an alarm is triggered and the second pump operates to ensure that system doesn’t stop running. If for any reason the water level within the chamber reaches the ‘high level alarm’ float, then both pumps are put into operation and the alarm is triggered. Once the water level drops sufficiently the alarm will turn off. BUDGET OPTION For smaller sites or where cost is a major consideration, a single pump system can be specified. No control panel is necessary as the pump will be controlled by its own integral float switch. PLANT DESCRIPTION Pumping Chamber The chamber is generally constructed using 1,200mm diameter concrete rings to a depth of 1,450mm below the incoming drain. However, larger chamber sizes can be specified. We can also supply pre-assembled GRP or plastic chambers upon request. Pumps We usually select two submersible sewage pumps from the extensive ITT Lowara range. The pumps are mounted on guide rails for fast and easy removal. Pumps from most of the major manufacturers can also be specified, including Flygt, ABS and KSB. All types of waste can be accommodated from surface water to raw sewage. Internal Pipework The majority of pipe work and fittings are made from 50mm diameter ABS, which is connected to the discharge pipe via a MDPE to ABS adaptor. The 2” ball-type non-return valves are manufactured from cast iron. All stations incorporate an isolation valve on the discharge pipe to facilitate easy future maintenance. Level Control We install four high-quality sewage grade float control switches. The lowest of the switches stops the pumps running to protect them from running dry. The middle two floats initiate the start of each pump cycle. The highest of the floats triggers the high level alarm and activates both pumps. Control Panel The control panel is a standard duty/standby unit with a built in highlevel alarm facility. It features a main isolator, which is mounted on the door along with status indicator lights and hand/off/auto switches for each pump. Electrical Requirement Can be specified with either a single or three-phase power supply. Advantages Outstanding value for money Continuous bacterial digestion giving up to 5 year desludge intervals* Easy Installation - unique design minimises labour and materials Low running cost of small, quiet air blower Robust construction reduces need for concrete backfill Compact design does not require large plant for excavation or handling No odours as the process does not require primary settlement Low visual impact - 600mm cover, flush with ground Reliable operation - simple design, no internal moving parts Excellent performance meeting normal consented standard Over 25,000 units installed worldwide Design Type tested in accordance with Part H of the Building Regulations - April 2002 Range of nine models available for households of up 55 domestic population equivalent No internal mechanical parts - requires less than two hours maintenance a year * Typical domestic systems will need to be partially desludged every 3-5 years. Systems that receive up to their design loading may require desludging every 1-2 years. Lightly loaded systems may go for 10 years or longer before requiring desludge. Diamond C range requires annual desludging. How the Diamond works Effluent Influent Weir (6) Scum Baffle (7) Floating Solids (8) Aeration Chamber (1) Clarifier Chamber (2) Draft Tube (3) Air Diffuser (4) Settled Solids (5) The Diamond system consists of two treatment chambers within a single tank. The centre aeration chamber (1) is a circular tank with a sloped open bottom, which empties into the bottom of the outer clarifier chamber (2). Gravity causes the aerated solids to settle back to the bottom of the tank where they are again drawn back up through the draft tube. Located in the centre of the aeration chamber is a 200mm diameter draft tube (3), which extends to 100mm from the bottom of the clarifier. Air is released at the bottom of the draft tube through a disc plate diffuser (4). As raw sewage enters the aeration chamber, it displaces biological solids from the aeration compartment to the clarifier. Quiescent conditions in the clarifier allow the digested solids to settle to the bottom of the clarifier where they are returned back to the aeration compartment. As the diffused air rises in the draft tube, it causes an upward flow of process fluid. This draws the settled solids (5) from the bottom of the clarifier up through the draft tube where they are discharged at the surface of the aeration chamber. The design of the draft tube ensures continuous and complete mixing of oxygen with the sewage. This allows for the growth of various aerobic organisms that biologically degrade the wastewater contaminants. The clarified (treated) effluent flows slowly up through the clarifier and over a weir (6), which extends around the periphery of the tank. The effluent collects in an outer trough where it is discharged through a 110mm-pipe connection. The scum baffle (7) located inside the overflow weir prevents floating solids (8) from passing over the weir. The HiPAF system is available in three distinct forms: Compact plant 1-60 Population Equivalent Midi Plant 60-250 Population Equivalent Modular plant 250-3,000 Population Equivalent From single house to 60 population equivalent, designed as a single cylindrical unit, containing primary, biological and secondary treatment tanks. An all in one unit containing primary, biological and secondary treatment tanks. For larger developments up to 250 population equivalent. Individual primary, biological and secondary treatment units which can be used to construct very large treatment works economically - up to 3,000 population equivalent. All these types of plant benefit from the unique HiPAF features and come complete with compressors, kiosk, control panel and air hoses to install and use straight away. Benefits Minimum visual impact Low maintenance and whole life costs Treats to the highest standards ie 10:10:3 BOD:SS:NH4 Unique Flow balancing primary tank Copes with variable flows and loads Reliable operation with standby facility Each plant designed to customer requirements Process Description After primary settlement the influent flows under the gravity to a number of treatment modules arranged in series. A submerged bed aerated filter by design, the module is split into several chambers, each filled with high voidage plastic media. Within these chambers, both carbonaceous and nitrifying processes take place. Air to oxidise the influent and to scour excess biomass from the filter media is introduced continuously below each chamber by a series of diffusers. Each diffuser is capable of being removed for maintenance, without the necessity to shut down the plant. The package treatment plant consists of a primary settlement tank, biological treatment module, secondary (humus) settlement tank, all fabricated in GRP and designed for below ground installation. The plant is fitted with large, gas strut assisted covers to give full access to all parts for maintenance and desludging. The package plant is also supplied complete with duty only air blower and control panel housed in a GRP kiosk, and 10m lengths of air hose. Following biological treatment the effluent flows into the secondary (humus) settlement tank where the excess biomass settles out. This tank is designed for an overflow rate of 0.9 m/hour at full flow to treatment. It is equipped with air lift pumps which are arranged to periodically and automatically, transfer settled humus sludge to the primary tank for co-settlement. The primary settlement tanks are designed in accordance with BS 6297, where it is anticipated 30% of the BOD load will settle out and there is sufficient volume for sludge storage. The primary settlement tank is equipped with baffles to prevent any floating scum entering the biological phase of the treatment, and with WPL’s unique forward feed system, which lowers the level in the tank during periods of low flow to provide a balancing volume for possible surges in the influent. Air to oxygenate the effluent in the biological treatment chamber and operate the various airlifts is provided by a duty only air blower that is housed in an accoustic lined GRP kiosk. A range of storm attenuation tanks are available for storm water management. Single module units up to 240,000 litres capacity are available, or multi-module using interconnecting low level balancing pipes. Units can be supplied with an automatic enzyme dosing system, which digests the grease content converting it into carbon monoxide and water. Septic Tanks Tanks can be supplied with integral stainless steel hydrobrakes or pumped discharge for sites where a gravity system is not possible. Due to the bespoke nature of the products these systems are available only on a made to order basis. A range of three-stage septic tanks are available to suit a number of applications and differing ground conditions. Septic tanks are less common now due to increased awareness of the risk of pollution. However, in some circumstances they remain a cost effective way of providing private drainage. Cesspools & Storage Tanks For the containment of many different types of waste, for sites where discharge is not possible due to environmental constraints, we offer a comprehensive range of sealed Cesspools Silt Traps As the name suggests, this product intercepts silt from vehicle wash down areas and is often used in conjunction with a full retention interceptor prior to final discharge. The Acorn Silt Trap is supplied with a hinged open mesh steel cover allowing the free flow of contaminated water into the unit. Discharge is via a single outlet connection. Bypass Separators Class II The Acorn range of petrol/oil Bypass Separators have been designed to intercept and treat the surface water run off from large impervious areas, which provide a low risk of hydrocarbon pollution. Similar to Class I design only without the coalescing filter – discharge from Class II units is normally to the foul drain. Full Retention Separators Acorn offer a comprehensive range of petrol/oil Full Retention Separators for sites where there is a high risk of hydrocarbon pollutants contaminating the surface water drainage system. The design of the separators relies upon gravity separation and minimum retention periods within the selected unit. Light Liquid Separators Class I The Acorn Class I Light Liquid Separator incorporates an automatic closure device – ACD – and a coalescing filter. The separator is designed such that should the separator become full of pollutant then the ACD closes down the discharge, therefore retaining the contaminates within the separator. The coalescing filter intercepts the smaller more buoyant globules of pollutant which remain in suspension and prevent their discharge. This ensures that these systems achieve a high quality discharged effluent. We offer an oil/water interface detection system providing maintenance/ management information to the operator. As you can see from this selection we offer a product to suit any application. In conjunction with Acorn’s design flexibility we can provide custom built products at very reasonable prices. There is no reason why you should not use us to the supply the equipment for your next project. Our policy, and that of Acorn is to provide solutions to problems. Not to simply sell you a product that may not be necessary. We believe that in the long run we will develop a much stronger relationship with our customers that is based as much on trust as on the quality of the service that we provide. Suitable Applications Normal/shallow-gradient drainage pipes running directly into the main sewer Features Coats drain pipes with an eco-barrier that prevents grease from forming, so preventing the main cause of blockage Eliminates foul odours caused by rancid grease Improves hygiene: grease in drains is a haven for rodents and insect infestation Fully automatic, requiring no user maintenance - just a simple, weekly operating check Highly economical: precise product metering stops wastage Totally safe and environmentally responsible The need for grease treatment Cooking oils and fats usually appear so innocuous while in use that it can be hard to comprehend the extent of their transformation once cold and contaminated. Left unchecked, grease will build up in even the best designed drain. The early symptoms are foul and rancid smells, until eventually blockage results. The Grease Guzzler prevents these problems - keeping drains odourless and free running at even the most problematic of sites. All the chaos and expense of manual grease-blockage clearing is eliminated, while the need to empty messy and unhygienic grease traps is reduced enormously! How the Mini Guzzler works Twice a week, at regular and pre-programmed times, Mini Guzzler releases a unique biological cleaning solution into the drain line. This is produced from a concentrated 'bio-compound', 'S-10', which is stored within the machine. Once in the drain, the S-10 solution sets about developing a bio-film coating along the length of the pipe run to provide continual blockage protection. Mini Guzzler has no rival. What is S-10 Bio-Compound S-10 is a harmless, living medium comprising naturally occurring, nonpathogenic enzymes and micro-organisms in a dormant spore state. Its formula is unique to WPL. S-10 is a surprisingly robust product; demanding no special requirements in its handling or storage, save that it should not be frozen. The secret of S-10 Many of Mini Guzzler's unrivalled benefits result from the exclusive formulation of S-10. Throughout the development period, WPL carried out extensive tests on other bio-compounds and found none that performed consistently to its criteria. The winning attributes of S-10 lie principally in its physical composition, which enables the application of ‘bio-fixation’ technology - meaning that the active content, I.e., the microbes, are integral rather than just a surface coating. As a result, the lining that it forms on the drain pipes is less vulnerable to harsh flows that may pass by, such as bleaches or detergents. The only part lost is the surface layer, with all the rest remaining intact, enabling the bioproducts to reproduce to repair the damage. How S-10 works The drain coating formed by the S-10 culture is active in two ways. Firstly, it prevents grease build-up along the drain run by attaching itself to any deposits that land, sloughing off to keep them in suspension. Secondly, it leeches onto and attacks existing deposits of congealed grease, reducing them steadily until the pipes are clean. Heavily greasecongested drain pipes should be cleared manually by rodding or jetting before installation of Mini Guzzler to prevent the risk of blockage from the loosening of large grease chunks. WPL strongly recommends that no other bio-compound is used in the Mini Guzzler system. However, the biotechnology marketplace supports constant development and, should you encounter an apparent equal to S-10, we would be happy to test and approve it, provided we are satisfied that it meets claimed performance. Where should Mini Guzzler be installed? Mini Guzzler is suited ideally to internal wall mounting, normally in the kitchen, close to the drainage waste pipe. Connections are very simple cold water and electricity in, drain access out. For optimum results, Mini Guzzler should dose as close to the drainhead as possible. In all cases, dosing should occur close enough to the last sink or drainage discharge point so that grease cannot solidify in pipework upstream; whilst far enough downstream for the bio-products to be working within their optimum temperature range, 27-43 degrees C. Will Mini Guzzler control all oil, fat and grease wastes? Yes! Although these products appear quite different to each other in use, at molecular level they are all fundamentally similar. Mini Guzzler handles them all equally effectively. Food scraps Food scraps and peelings should be prevented from entering the drain. This is most simply done using a simple mesh screen installed at the drainhead. Their presence will not in any way hinder Mini Guzzler's greasetreatment performance, but their continual build-up can prove of no benefit to the drainage system as a whole. Detergents and chemicals The bio-products are surprisingly hardy in the face of detergents and chemicals. Nonetheless, the culture can be destroyed by their indiscriminate use and care should be taken wherever possible. Bear in mind that with Mini Guzzler installed, the need for harsh drain-cleaning chemicals is eliminated. Service and maintenance The Grease Guzzler has been engineered for complete reliability. Absolutely no user maintenance is necessary. In order to keep kitchen disruption to a minimum, a six monthly supplier service/refill programme is all that's required. This will be managed and undertaken directly by your supplying distributor, who will provide a fully inclusive, fixed price deal upon which you can depend. Suitable Applications The Grease Guzzler is an innovative, self contained solution to grease management designed for any environment where grease, oil and fat can cause blockages in waste pipes or drain runs. The system utilises patented bio-technology, ensuring efficient and effective drain cleansing with minimal impact on the environment. Features Digests grease, cooking oils and animal fats using naturally occurring micro-organisms Utilises a patented incubation technology to ensure that proficient drain cleansing is achieved Aesthetically designed to be space efficient and blend into most commercial kitchens Benefits Designed on the principle of ‘fit and forget’, it is completely automated and self contained, requiring no user maintenance Eliminates foul drain odours caused by rancid grease Removes the unpleasant task of emptying messy and unhygienic grease traps Drastically improves drain hygiene, helping to prevent rodent and insect infestation Removes the need for the harsh draining cleaning chemicals Requires no space consuming drums of bio-chemical, unlike some alternative products Totally safe and environmentally responsible The need for grease treatment In an environment where cooking oils and fats are used in large quantities, it is often difficult to imagine the high volume of grease that finds its way into the drainage system. Grease build up can be problematic even to the best designed drains. The most commonly associated symptoms are an increased sight of vermin and insects and the presence of a foul and rancid smell, which becomes unpleasantly potent in the warm weather. The final and most costly indication of grease build up is a blocked drain. The Grease Guzzler’s patented design and unique bio-formula will eradicate existing grease build up and also prevent it from re-occurring, even in the most problematic of sites. How the Grease Guzzler works At a pre-programmed time, usually once a day, at a regular and pre-programmed time, the Grease Guzzler releases a unique biological cleaning solution into the drain line. This is developed within the machine from a concentrated 'bio-fluid' formulation called S65. Each cycle begins with a dose of S65 bio-fluid concentrate into the incubation tank filled with cold water. The tank is gently heated for eight hours to stimulate the micro-organisms to multiply, resulting in the creation of a rich soup of grease hungry bacteria. WPL’s patented S65 bio-fluid concentrate S65 concentrate, is a derivative of over six years research and development into biological grease management. It comprises of a purposely selected and naturally occurring cocktail of nonpathogenic enzymes and micro-organisms, forming a mixed culture composite. This improves the Grease Guzzler’s ability to combat many different forms of grease that are commonly found in commercial kitchens. The formula has been designed to be hardy when faced with certain detergents and chemicals. However, care should be taken as S65’s complex culture can be damaged or even destroyed by their indiscriminate use. Please note that with the Grease Guzzler installed in your kitchen, the need for harsh drain cleaning chemicals is not necessary. How S65 works S65 uses two simultaneous processes. Enzymes make the first assault, breaking the grease into simpler food particles, which are edible to micro-organisms, these then digest and degrade the grease further. As the hungry micro-organisms grow, they reproduce rapidly by splitting, which at the same time releases more enzymes to perpetuate the process until all the grease is broken down The result is the conversion of the grease into fatty acids and glycerol; water soluble products that form an emulsion. Harmless in the drain, this transformation is irreversible. As these products continue their way to the treatment plant, their degradation continues until, ultimately, the grease is broken down fully into carbon dioxide and water. Where should Grease Guzzler be installed? The Grease Guzzler should be selected where the drainage run to be protected includes either grease traps or pump stations, or terminates at an on-site, private sewage treatment works. It is suited ideally to internal wall mounting: normally in the kitchen, close to the drainage waste pipe. Connections are very simple - cold water and electricity in, drain access out. Dosing should occur close enough to the first sink or drainage discharge point so that grease cannot solidify in pipework upstream; whilst far enough downstream for the bio-products to be working within their optimum temperature range, 30-35 degrees C. Is the Grease Guzzler a fussy eater? No! The Grease Guzzler degrades all waste oils, fats and grease. Although these products seem quite different to each other, at molecular level they are all fundamentally the same. Food scraps Food scraps and peelings should be prevented from entering the drain, by installing a simple mesh screen at the drain-head. If allowed through, the bio-products will happily 'eat' the scraps, but this may diminish their concentration around the grease. WPL does not recommend the use of garbage grinders. These simply macerate the scraps into a pulp, increasing their surface area and providing an even more attractive food source for microbes. Grease Guzzler and package treatment plants Installation of Grease Guzzler upstream of a package sewage treatment plant (i.e. at an establishment not connected to mains drainage) will yield significant benefit to plant operation. Grease is as much of an enemy here as it is anywhere, and its presence will always have a detrimental effect. However, once irreversibly pre-treated, grease can no longer solidify to impair efficiency. Additionally, its final degradation, to carbon dioxide and water, requires less dissolved oxygen than it otherwise would, and thereby helps further to maintain a better operating system. An additional benefit is currently under close investigation. Feedback from field trials has suggested that plant desludging intervals may be extended considerably with the installation of Grease Guzzler. The precise reasons for this have yet to be demonstrated and, as yet, we have no quantifiable data available. Careful plant monitoring is advisable upon the initial installation of Grease Guzzler. If the drainage system has been heavily congested with grease over a long period of time, the unit could become temporarily overloaded as a result of the sudden grease influx as pipes are cleared. Also, segments of grease may be released from the pipe walls. These segments can collect on bends or other restrictions in the pipe run and cause a blockage. Pressure pipe cleaning is recommended on systems that have a heavy grease load. Conditions vary greatly between sites, and your supplying WPL distributor will offer appropriate advice upon assessing the specific application. Service and maintenance Grease Guzzler has been engineered for complete reliability. Absolutely no user maintenance is necessary. In order to keep kitchen disruption to a minimum, a six-monthly supplier service and refill programme is all that's required. This will be managed and undertaken directly by our Service Department, who will provide a fully inclusive, fixed price deal upon which you can depend. Yet we continue to waste purified drinking water for flushing the toilet, washing our clothes, cleaning our cars and watering our gardens. We do not need to waste our expensively purified drinking water, that is so often in short supply, on these uses. The revolutionary new Acorn RainSava is designed to help overcome this problem. Natural rainfall that falls on the roof of your property is filtered and collected in an underground tank. We then offer a number of economic options for distributing the water to the required locations around the home. Whilst the RainSava will benefit any home, it can also be used in many industrial or commercial situations. Uses can range from cooling water to supplying water to flush public toilets in rural locations or even on campsites. The Acorn RainSava Gold System Apart from the obvious environmental benefits, the increasing use of water meters will mean that the use of rainwater harvesting systems, such as these, will provide a saving on your water bill. Each home is assessed individually to maximise the effectiveness of the recommended system. We are also working towards the recovery and re-use of ‘grey water’, from sinks, baths, showers and washing machines. If you have a project that you feel may be suited to the RainSava system, then please do not hesitate to contact us for a appraisal of your requirements and a budget quotation. RainSava Component Options Collection Filters Underground Collection Filter Located in the rainwater pipe run after it goes underground, the unit contains a stainless steel filter that diverts the rainwater into the supply pipe to the RainSava underground storage tank. All excess water and filtered dirt particles continue in the usual way to the surface water drain. Vertical Collection Filter Similar to the underground filter but is located within the vertical rainwater downpipe before it reaches the ground. Rainwater Distribution Pumps The RainSava ‘Gold’ and ‘Silver’ systems use a submersible pump situated within the underground tank. The ‘Bronze’ system uses a separate pump, which can be located within the house or an outbuilding. Pressure Switch All of the systems use a pressure switch to control the operation of the pump. Floating Filter The pump takes water from the tank via a floating filter. The float maintains the position the filter intake just below the surface of the water for maximum efficiency. Mains Top-Up The system also senses the water level within the underground tank. At times when there is insufficient rain to maintain a working level, the system compensates by automatically introducing water from the mains supply into the underground tank. It is important to note that it only uses enough mains water to maintain a minimum working level within the tank. Underground Storage Tanks Underground storage tanks are available in a range of sizes, in both horizontal and vertical cylindrical formats. The inlet and outlet pipework connections can be located in any position to suit your particular site conditions. We also offer a range of above ground storage tanks, which are ideally suited to industrial applications. T K Services has a policy of continual product development and the above information may be subject to change without notice Typical RainSava Layout 6 8 14 13 5 10 1 11 mains water supply 9 12 to waste 4 7 2 Rainwater is collected from the roof drainage system by the underground Wisy WFF vortex filter (1). This filters out the debris from the water and diverts about 85% of it into the storage tank. The remaining water goes to soakaway or storm drain in the usual manner, as does the excess water from the tank. As water enters the tank it passes through a smoothing inlet (2) which calms the flow of water and prevents disturbance of the float switch and any sediments. Water is then supplied on demand by the submersible pump (3) through a floating suction filter (4) to specific outlets, usually WCs, washing machine and garden tap. The pump is controlled by a combined pressure switch/flow controller (5), which turns the pump on and off when required and also gives dry-running protection to the pump if it should be necessary. Mains water top-up is provided by a solenoid valve (6) controlled by a float switch (7). Water is discharged to the tank via a type A air gap tundish (8) compliant with current water regulations. This gravity-feeds to the tank through 50mm pipe that then connects to the outlet pipe from the filter. Water is pumped via pressure hose (9) and 32mm MDPE (10) up to the flow controller. Pipe and cables are ducted to the house through a 110mm drainage pipe (11). An overflow trap (12) provides a water seal against any foul odours from drains. N.B. – an anti-backflow version is available when connecting to sewer. An optional level gauge (13) gives a visual indication of tank water level. to waste 3 Components 1. WF2011 2. EB0300 3. INSULATION Insulation as a core material, within the structure of each panel to 0.65 W/M20oC, is available for metric cisterns up to 3m high and 8’ high on imperial designs. Ozone friendly – CFC free insulation is used as standard. CISTERN ERECTION We recommend the use of our own experienced installation teams to erect cisterns in mainland United Kingdom. Customers, with the use of simple hand tools, can erect smaller sectional cisterns. CONNECTIONS A full service of tank connections, spigots and composite unions – factory or site fitted – are available. PARTITIONS Partitions may be fitted to cisterns at full or half panel joints, and are designed to allow either compartment to be empty whilst the others are in service. LIDS Heavy duty covers are provided with the use of standard panels. A manway access hatch and filtered air vent are supplied for each cistern compartment. BALLVALVE BOXES Valve boxes may be formed from standard panels. A onepiece ballvalve box is available having internal dimensions of 800 x 400 x 400 high. Overflows must be fitted within tank compartment, to ensure the tank is not pressurised. FIXINGS Stainless steel nuts, bolts and washers are used throughout and are an integral part of the maintenance free concept. LADDERS GRP ladders are available for both internal and external applications. Alternatives in stainless steel or galvanised steel available upon request. BRACING Larger cisterns are braced with stainless steel internal tie rods, eliminating external corsetry. TECHNICAL INFORMATION TOTALLY INTERNALLY FLANGED Standard sectional cisterns require clearances beyond the external dimensions of the cistern. If confined areas exist and the normal clearance of 500mm cannot be achieved, choose a totally internally flanged cistern. These systems are assembled from within, allowing cisterns to be built right up against existing plantroom walls, columns, even existing pieces of equipment. POW’s specially designed system with its complex full corners and ‘L’ panels is available in metric or imperial sizes with all panel size variations. You can choose either insulated or uninsulated options. TANK CONNECTIONS A full service of flanged tank connections, spigots and composite unions – factory or site fitted – are available for ease of installation. TANK SIZES POW’s internally flanged sectional tanks are available in length and width permutations of 500mm (for metric tanks) and 2’0” (for imperial tanks). The maximum heights available for metric tanks are 2,500mm (uninsulated) and 3,000mm (insulated), and for imperial tanks are 8’0” (uninsulated) and 10’0” (insulated). We also supply a range of equilibrium and delayed action float valves to suit most site applications. EXTERNALLY FLANGED CISTERNS A wide range of options are available to enable an externally flanged sectional tank to be produced to suit your requirements. POW’s range of metric cisterns can incorporate panels in 500mm permutations for any length and width, up to a maximum of 3,000mm in height, and their imperial range in increments of 2’0” up to a maximum height of 12’0” (for uninsulated standard panels) and 8’0” (for pre-insulated panels). To accommodate the requirements of a type A air gap arrangement, we can supply weir slots at high level on the tank (with and without stainless steel mesh and frame), to suit the specification and bore of the inlet. Raised ballvalve boxes can also be utilised within this design. Access – Externally flanged tanks require a minimum of 500mm clearance all around the tank for access and maintenance purposes. Where access is restricted and external flanges are unsuitable, we recommend a Totally Internally Flanged Cistern. Flanges – Both internally and externally flanged base panels are available with externally flanged sides, to suit all methods of base support and available access. Full span self-draining base and sump panels are also available within the range of external bases, to allow complete drainage of the tank contents. Up to 4” (100mm) may be fitted in standard panels. Fittings above 4” may require special panels to be manufactured to your needs – check with our technical staff when discussing your connection requirements. uPVC flanges and spigots are available in either Table D/E or NP10/16 – please specify the table drilling you require. TYPE A AIR GAPS DRIP TRAYS We are able to supply a full range of GRP drip trays for POW’s sectional cisterns. These are designed to be sited beneath internally flanged bases. INSULATED SECTIONAL CISTERNS POW’s specially designed and proven system is your answer for fully encapsulated total insulation.
