Winter weather did a number on our attendance last month. Our January attendance was 59.8% versus 68.2% in January 2010. We are still ahead of last year’s attendance overall, so make a point to come to our regular luncheon meetings and social events so YOU will count! Thanks to Judy Peters who keeps up with all these numbers for us! The Four-Way Test The Four-Way Test was conceived in 1932 by Herbert J. Taylor, a member of the Rotary Club of Chicago who served as the 195455 president of Rotary International. Having been assigned the task of saving a company from bankruptcy, Taylor developed the test as an ethical guide to follow in all business matters. The company’s survival was credited to this simple philosophy. Adopted by Rotary International in 1934, The Four-Way Test remains an essential standard against which Rotarians measure ethical behavior. The test has been translated into dozens of languages and promoted by Rotarians worldwide. 1) 2) 3) 4) THE FOUR-WAY TEST Of the things we think, say or do: Is it the TRUTH? Is it FAIR to all concerned? Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? Call for a Special Greensboro Rotary Volunteer! We need a Rotarian to join David Blackman in working with the Rotary Interact Club at Grimsley High School. The group is up and running but will benefit from the advice, support, and encouragement of volunteers from our club. David has experience in working with similar groups from his YMCA background. Contact President Ken (krk@crlaw.com) if you are interested. This is a special group of young people and you’ll enjoy working with them and with David. Rotary District 7690 Conference 2011 The Hilton Riverside Wilmington Hotel Wilmington, North Carolina Thursday, March 31, 2011 – Sunday, April 3, 2011 For more information about the conference, go to http://www.rotary7690.org/DistrictConference/DistrictConference.shtm. Putting the “Fun” in Fundraising! The Mt. Jackson-Edinburg Rotary Club in northwestern Virginia has taken a light-hearted approach to fundraising for serious causes. The club is sponsoring a special fundraiser (see picture) in cooperation with businesses in the area. The club is working toward eliminating hunger, illiteracy, and crippling diseases such as polio in this country and abroad. The club asks that everyone in the club – and the community – keep a lookout for the large flock of pink flamingos, greet the business owner and put a donation in the Rotary collection jar. As the club says, “Thinking happy thoughts and helping others will help the last days of winter go by quickly, so before you know it… Spring will be here!!” HT to AF for passing along this story.
