What you can afford to entrust ► Leave very expensive items at home – they can and do get lost or stolen ► Luggage: 1 suitcase and 1 day bag, please ► Comfortable clothes for the journey ► Packed lunch for the outward journey ► Money for evening meal on return journey ► Customs: fireworks, BB guns, laser pens, alcohol, cigarettes are all banned ► Coach: Not too much fizzy drink or chocolate! ► Medication ► Travel sickness: take tablets in advance of journey ► Hostel: Only use the hostel number if you have tried to contact us via the school mobile and been unsuccessful ► Communication ► Mobile phones are not allowed on the trip. Any mobiles phones found will be confiscated. ► Parents will be given the school mobile number so that they can contact Mrs Masters in an emergency ► A cascade system will be set up so that parents can be informed and inform each other that we have arrived safely and also of any significant changes to our return time (sharing of numbers) ► We will update a trip blog as and when possible but will not be able to respond to messages Some visits Nausicaä aquarium Chocolaterie Seeing how chocolate is made, and tasting some! We expect rooms to be 4-6 sharing ► Respect other guests ► All inclusive meals ► Do not go out of the hostel without permission ► Bedtime /lights out What to bring ► Watch ► Waterproof jacket ► Warm jumper/sweatshirt for evening ► Jeans / sportswear / trainers ► Nightwear ► Pens / pencils /disposable camera / reading book ► Toothbrush, soap, etc. ► Sunscreen and hats ► Bath Towel On the Bus ► Seat belts must be worn at all times ► Rubbish must be placed in bags provided ► Personal stereos/MP3 players are fine ► Toilet for emergency use only On the Ferry ► LISTEN CAREFULLY TO INSTRUCTIONS ► No running ► Avoid games machines ► Keep area tidy ► Know when and where to meet Calais ► Monitoring situation carefully ► Increased security at port makes it safer but checks make it longer ► Some of the itinerary has and could be updated if there are changes at the ports ► Crossing could be changed if necessary ► Hostel is away from ports and satisfies the safety audit by the travel company under the School Travel Forum guidelines Out & About ► Never ► Be go off alone – stay in groups of 3 min aware of meeting points and times ► Sensible clothing that doesn’t make you stand out What we need from you ► Contact details and any medical requirements on sheet before you leave. What we need from you EHIC cards for insurance –please place this in an envelope and put it in the school safe by the end of June - clearly marked French trip.
