RESULTS FROM THE 26TH OF JULY, 2016 A GRADE (DIVISION 1) - ROUND 14 ROUND 14 PAOC Q1 GOODWOOD SAINTS 2.1 – 13 2.4 – 16 Q2 8.2 – 50 3.6 – 24 Q3 Q4 9.3 – 57 16.6 – 102 7.6 – 48 9.6 – 60 GOAL KICKERS: Brock Castree - 4; Karl Siebels - 3; Brendan Papps, Tom Ashby and Drew Clayfield - 2 each; Adam Perryman, Nick Clayfield and Lachlan McNamara - 1 each BEST PLAYERS: Brock Castree, Adam Perryman, Will Dalwood, Karl Siebels, Tom Brinsley and Nick Clayfield COACH’S REPORT: The challenge for this group in the last 5 weeks is going to be more about challenging ourselves mentally rather than physically. With top spot all but ours and playing the 4 bottom sides in coming weeks we need to continue to execute our structures and game style. Goodwood Saints are always a very tough side to beat - especially on their home ground. This showed early in the game as they came at us very aggressively and committed to the contest. However, once again our character and leadership within the group stood tall and, when needed, we were able to absorb this pressure and then put the foot down and control the outcome of the game. In what was another very emotional week for the boys with the retirement of one of our true leaders in ‘JR' Thomas, it was very special and fitting that he was able to present a good mate and another first gamer in Brad Coles with his Reds playing jumper. JR’s message to the group will hopefully hold us in good stead going forward. Bring on Henley Beach in the ‘home’ game for ‘Past Players’ Day’ this Saturday!! Brett Backwell THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS: THIS WEEK’S FIXTURES - SATURDAY 6TH AUGUST, 2016 ROUND 15: A Grade vs Henley Beach (Park 9, 2:15 PM) ROUND 15: B Grade vs Henley Beach (Park 9, 12:15 PM) ROUND 18: C Grade vs Unley Jets (Kingswood Oval, 2:15 PM) (MAP) ROUND 17: D Grade vs Tea Tree Gully (Park 9, 10:15 AM) ROUND 18: E Grade vs Unley Jets (Kingswood Oval, 12:15 PM) (MAP) ROUND 18: F Grade vs Tea Tree Gully (Park 15, 10:15 AM) (MAP) ROUND 14 PAOC B GRADE (DIVISION 1 RESERVES) - ROUND 14 GOODWOOD SAINTS Q1 1.1 – 7 5.7 – 37 Q2 3.7 – 25 5.9 – 39 Q3 5.9 – 39 8.11 – 59 Q4 9.15 – 69 8.13 – 61 GOAL KICKERS: Josh Morrell - 3; Ben Young, Jack Prest, Ned Holmes, Hahns Sullivan, Ben Siebels and Amyas Ross - 1 each BEST PLAYERS: James Dalwood, Chris Hannemann, Ben Young, Lewis Crawford and Josh Morrell COACH’S REPORT: Recent inclement weather coupled with the high level of traffic on Goodwood Oval brought on tough, heavy conditions - in stark contrast to the lush Park 9 track that we enjoy at the moment. Goodwood kicked with a strong breeze in the first quarter but, even so, there was simply no reason to concede goals in the way we did. There was a lack of ‘slow and controlled’ play on our part and, when we did have the ball, we often panicked and turned the ball over in dangerous positions that resulted in opposition goals. However, things tightened up a bit after the first break and we were able to get movement on our terms more and win more contested balls. Despite completely controlling the second quarter, we still trailed at the main break. Going into the breeze again in the third, we dominated possession and a number of our key players lifted their output. Despite this, Goodwood cashed in on the few turnovers that we allowed them and were able to hit the scoreboard - meaning that we still had a solid task overcoming the 20 point margin in the last. It was a grind and conversion in front of goal was an issue - as it was all day - but we took the lead mid-way through the last and held on. It was far from a complete, four quarter showing - but you always take a win against the top side. We’re looking forward to taking it up to Henley at home this week and building more form toward the finals. Central United were moving the ball with quick, clean movement to their tallish forwards and this was was putting extreme pressure on our full back line. Even though we had kicked with the aid of wind in the first quarter Central United had a 1 goal advantage at the first break. The second term followed a similar pattern with the Central United tall forwards giving us a lot of headaches - and by half time they had extended the lead out to an 18 point margin. During the long break we made a few slight changes to our structures. Will Brennan got together with the midfielders and put a plan in place to give the midfielders cleaner access to the ball at the centre ball ups. The change worked a treat and Central United had no answer to Will’s clever ruck work. Charlie Comerford was moved to full back to combat the Central United tall full forward. Charlie was up to the challenge and shut him out of the game. After a small change the forward line functioned like a Swiss watch and slammed on 11 goals for the quarter (10 of which were kicked in a 10 minute blitz in the middle of the quarter) to turn a 3 goal deficit at half time into a 5 goal lead at the last change. The last term was not as exciting as the third but, in a solid effort, we managed to add 5 goals to our total while we kept a dejected Central United goalless. Russell Brealey ROUND 16 PAOC HOPE VALLEY D GRADE (DIVISION C3) - ROUND 16 Q1 4.5 – 29 2.1 – 13 Q2 5.7 – 37 4.7 – 31 Q3 7.12 – 54 6.8 – 44 Q4 8.15 – 63 9.11 – 65 GOAL KICKERS: Jackson Myhill and Tom Simpson - 2 each; Lucas Lovell, Tom Ricci, Jack Zacker and Matt Faull - 1 each BEST PLAYERS: Angus Parkinson, Tom Burfield, Tom Ricci, Nick Oag, Lucas Lovell and Jackson Myhill COACH’S REPORT: It was a disappointing result for the D grade last Saturday - losing to Hope Valley by 2 points after leading for most day. Inaccuracy in front of goal and some basic skill errors throughout the whole game ended up being very costly. Whilst a spot in the finals is now not guaranteed, our destiny is still in our own hands with 2 minor round games remaining. Antony (Jack) Brabham ROUND 17 E GRADE (DIVISION 7 RESERVES) - ROUND 17 Q1 PAOC 3.5 – 23 CENTRAL UNITED 0.0 – 0 Q2 10.6 – 66 1.3 – 9 Q3 15.10 – 100 1.3 – 9 Q4 20.13 – 133 3.4 – 22 GOAL KICKERS: Ben Vidic - 7; Mick Sanders and Nick Martin - 3 each; Tom Prest and Aaron Richards 2 each; Callum Brewerton, Michael Siciliano and Hugo Chapman - 1 each BEST PLAYERS: Tom Prest, Ben Vidic, Hugo Chapman, Callum Brewerton, Mick Sanders and Fergus Willsmore COACH’S REPORT: Last Saturday saw a solid and pleasing win for the E’s. 20 goals to 3 probably did not reflect the quality of the opposition - but it did highlight our scoring efficiency when Prest, Martin & Vidic are up forward. Yes, there is plenty of support getting the ball up there - but the just named trio do provide great structure. I was not at all happy at quarter time because we had wasted the breeze and were second to the ball and then, to compound the issue, our kicking was letting us down. After a chat the second half saw a marked improvement and this continued throughout the second half. Encouraging efforts were made by a number of players - but with special mentions for Hugo Chapman, Callum Brewerton, Fergus Willsmore and Jock Foster. Ben Vidic with 7 goals, along with Tom Prest, Mick Sanders, Jack Bailey and Michael Siciliano, rounded out the better players.
