This August 3-11 brings the
return of the $100,000 Comerica
Bank Challenger, or the 113th
California Tennis Open, the
longest-running challenger event
in the US. The tournament’s rich
history includes appearances by
Slam champs Pat Rafter, Michael
Chang, and 2013 Wimbledon
winner Andy Murray. Hard-hitting young players on the rise
are just part of the event’s attraction. “It’s really fun to watch
the tennis here,” notes

California players had strong results last year: former Stanford
standout Bradley Klahn
knocked out Igor Andreev in the
first round, Michael McClune
beat Robby Ginepri en route to
the quarterfinals, and Orange
County pro Steve Johnson won
the tournament.
Steve Johnson’s win at last year’s
Comerica Bank Challenger helped him
qualify for last year’s US Open.
Rising talent Milos Raonic competed at
Seascape in 2010.
