The Somerset County Campus of
Allegany College of Maryland plans a
spring semester of 93 classroom course
sections in two-dozen subjects, many of
which have application to the workplace.
Registration begins Monday, Nov. 7.
In addition to these traditional face-to-face sections,
the ACM-Somerset offers a substantial number of Web
courses, which afford even greater access through on-line
instruction. The semester starts Jan. 19.
Associate degrees, certificate and letters of recognition in
these disciplines can be applied to the area’s workplace,
including business and industry, civil service and public
safety and health care and human service.
Associate degrees are offered in these eight programs:
applied technical studies, business administration,
business management, computer science, computer
science and technology, criminal justice, general studies
and nursing.
The are nine certificate programs are applications
user specialist, business accounting, business
entrepreneurship, business marketing and sales, business
supervision, computer service technician, criminal
justice, programming and technical support.
Letters of recognition are in Accounting I, Accounting
II, entrepreneurship training, first-line supervision,
microcomputer applications specialist, programming
specialist and Web-page development.
All seven LORs can be completed in one semester,
offering an entry point for students in new fields and
allowing others to quickly add a new skill.
Another scheduling convenience is presented through
A-B Term courses. Introduced by the college two years
ago, they allow students to complete an entire course in
one-half the usual time. A-B courses cover the material of
a traditional 15-week semester in seven weeks.
