Couvet is just half hour driving from Neuchatel, one hour from Bern and two hours from Zurich or Geneva. This is
the part of Switzerland where high precision engineering has a long tradition and where precision tool makers and
machine builders are based. Each edco wheel set is named after a Swiss alpine mountain.
edco was founded in 1867 and first started producing bicycle components in 1902. In 2007 the company
became part of the Total Support Group of Rob van Hoek, a Dutch engineer and businessman.
The Total Support Group is a design and engineering organization with
customers such as Philips and ASML.
edco focused on the development and production of state of
the art wheel sets in aluminium, carbon or a combination of these
two materials. During this process, a number of new processes
were developed and patented.
Sales of edco wheel sets started in 2009 and soon the reputation
of edco was a fact.

MULTISYS
The patented Multisys body was developed by edco. Cassettes from Campagnolo and those of Shimano/Sram can be fitted on this body
without any problem. This is very practical for the dealer who doesn’t need to stock series of cassette body’s but also handy for the cyclist if he
ever decides to change to another brand.
ANTI-BITE
The patented Multisys body has three hardened steel inserts that prevent the cassette from damaging the soft aluminium material.
COMPOSITE SANDWICH STRUCTURE
The Albula and Furka rims from the Optima series are produced in a very special way. The aluminium outer rim is fixed to its full carbon base by
a special procedure, in the rim bed wrapped by carbon, a connection that is permanent.
RIM DRILLING MACHINE
The Total Support Group developed a rim drilling machine in cooperation with edco that ensures that spoke holes are always drilled at the
correct angle. By doing this there is no unnecessary tension that often leads to spontaneous breakage of spokes. This machine is able to store
thousands of different spoke patterns in its memory. It will carry out these instructions with the highest precision.
HAND BUILT AND INTENSIVELY TESTED
Every edco wheel is hand built by well trained artisans. It takes quite some time before a mechanic may called a “Master Wheelbuilder”. The
procedure is based on a strict production protocol and each step is checked before the process moves onto the next phase. It all ends with a
final inspection. This is done with precision tools. Each wheel is only named as an edco wheel once our builders are in 100% agreement.
Carefully packed, it will then be ready to find its way to its new owner.
HIGH-END QUALITY
It’s very common that high-end parts are only used in the top models of a brand. Not so at edco. Each wheel in every series is made from
quality parts. High precision Swiss hubs, spokes from Sapim and stainless steel industrial bearings. No concessions made.

AeroSport series
After careful consideration edco chose use Reynolds rims to make their AeroSport wheels. Reynolds rims have a proven aerodynamic advantage, especially when riding in a group or in crosswinds. Designed by Paul Lew, Reynolds’ new Aero line bucks the
trend by using a deep “V” profile with an almost exaggerated point.
With rounded wheels, he says the other brands claim that shape reduces crosswind drag, but Lew says his DET performs at
lower drag with a higher angle of attack than rims with a broad spoke face (ie. fat rounded edge). Besides reduced drag , this
lends stability to the wheels and makes them easy to control in crosswinds. Lew says this design calms the turbulence on the
leading part (front) of the wheel that sees clean air and that once the air passes the fork and spokes it’s turbulent air and the
aerodynamics don’t matter as much as some brands are touting. Lew says they also spent a lot of time with Computer Fluid
Dynamics to design the rim, to be able to hide the round, non bladed portion of the spokes, inside the rim.
The new rim shape is called DET (Dispersive Effect Termination), which is based on aircraft design. Contrary to the rounded, fat
aero wheels that are all the rage, DET aims to calm the turbulence caused by bike wheels. Lew says this design has been proven
in the wind tunnel and on the road, also the blunt rounded edge on many other brands create more turbulence behind.
edco improved the aerodynamics of the Aero rims even further by using their specially developed rim drilling machine, to create
smaller spoke holes at a perfect angle in the narrow point of the V-shaped Aero rim.
The Aero rims are equiped with the proven CTg (Cyro-Glass Transition). It’s a combination of specific resins, carbon fibres
and their CryoBlue brake pads made for optimal braking. These have shown to reduce braking temperatures up to 38°C and
increase the total heat tolerance to about 315°C.
