Join us as we explore in depth the life and times of a living legend,
the incomparable Ed Bearss.
On this weekend you will hear directly from the man who some have called our greatest
living national treasure. Many of you have heard Ed speak on Civil War topics. At this event
you will hear that and more, as Ed discusses his serious wounding in the Pacific in WWII; his
work on salvaging and restoring the sunken gunboat "Cairo"; his classic work on the Battle of
Brice's Crossroads: and his personal discussions with LBJ in the planning and acqusition of
the LBJ Ranch for the National Park Service. In addition, you will hear talks by many of
Ed's colleagues reflecting on his more than 60 years in the history field.

A Weekend with Ed Bearss
Wilderness and Spotsylvania
Ed Bearss is a former Marine, serving in the Pacific in WWII and is the nation’s foremost battlefield tour guide. The Chief Historian Emeritus of the
National Park Service, he is the author of several books and articles on the
Civil War. He has been a featured commentator on Ken Burn's PBS documentary “The Civil War,” the History Channel, and C-Span. Ed has been a
mainstay of the Chambersburg Civil War Seminars and Tours since our
founding in 1989. An Ed Bearss tour brings history to life and is not to be
missed!
Terry Winschel is the retired Chief Historian of Vicksburg National Military
Park and is a thirty-five year veteran in the National Park Service including
Gettysburg, Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania, and Valley Forge. He is the
author of several books including Triumph and Defeat:: The Vicksburg Campaign and has written almost fifty articles about the Civil War.
Dennis E. Frye is the Chief Historian at Harpers Ferry National Historical
Park and is an active battlefield preservationist. He has written eight books
including September Suspense: Lincoln's Union in Peril.
Richard Sommers is a senior historian at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center and an instructor at the U.S. Army War College, Carlisle, Pa.
He has been a commentator on C–Span, The History Channel, and wrote
Richmond Redeemed: The Siege at Petersburg.

Robert K. Krick is the retired Chief Historian of Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park, where he worked for thirty-one years. He
is the leading authority on the Army of Northern Virginia and the author of
numerous articles and several books, including Stonewall Jackson at
Cedar Mountain.
Greg Mertz is one of the leading authorities on Wilderness and Spotsylvania. He is currently the Supervisory Historian at Fredericksburg and
Spotsylvania National Military Park and the former curator for Chancellorsville Visitor Center Museum. He is the author of numerous articles for
publications such as Blue and Gray Magazine and is a frequent lecturer
at seminars and Civi War Round Tables.
Steward T. Henderson is a park ranger at the Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park. He is the president of the 23rd Regiment
United States Colored Troops and an author of the Emerging Civil
War.com blog. Steward retired as a Senior Vice President of SunTrust
Bank, Greater Washington Region, after 35 years in the financial services
industry.
