INTRODUCTION Youth Guide to Places & Spaces is an initiative of the Campbelltown Youth Advisory Committee. Local young people from the Campbelltown Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) had the chance to visit all the youth friendly places & spaces within the City of Campbelltown and have reviewed them to provide an informative overview of each place and space. These cakes and pastries are made with passion and are well priced. Owner Elbio Luis Perez and his staff are very welcoming and if you’re lucky, you can book into a tour of the bakery which is an amazing experience. It is definitely worth heading down to their café and bakery to taste one of their delicious desserts! An alternative to fast food, these delicious pizza cones are filled with your favourite pizza toppings. There is also a large variety of delicious gelati and cakes on offer. I would encourage everyone to come to Gourmet Kones for a take away pizza cone, or better yet, dine in and enjoy what the entire menu has to offer! Reviewed by Haydon Grigg Youth Guide : Food 7 Sorelle at Magill 613 Magill Road, Magill P: 8331 8844 Open: Tues – Fri 9:30am Coffee/Cake, 11:30am Lunch and 5pm Dinner Sat – Sun 10am Coffee/Cake, 11:30am Lunch and 5pm Dinner The atmosphere at Sorelle at Magill is welcoming and it is quite an enjoyable restaurant to sit down in and eat a delicious meal. The menu is extensive, so it took a while to settle on something I wanted because there were so many fantastic choices. The serves are generous and if you are unable to finish they offer you containers so you can take home the yummy leftovers. With just enough room for dessert I had to try their Italian Pavlova and it was divine! Save this restaurant for special occasions as the food is fresh and tastes great. I will definitely be back, so I can work my way through the menu. This popular eatery offers a large selection of Indian food to suit your taste buds, such as Butter Chicken, Korma, Tandoori, Rogan Josh, Naan Bread and Vegetarian options, just to name a few. Hot, Mild or Vegetarian it’s all covered at Chillies! The handmade fudges, rocky road, chocolates and nougat are delicious and won’t break the bank either. You can find their products at the Rezz Hotel, look out for them at the Royal Adelaide Show and at local shopping centres during the holiday season. Alternatively, you can call owners Eddie and Paula Natale who will happily welcome you to their Fudge Factory and you can buy it straight from there. Restaurant 264 Montacute Road, Rostrevor P: 8336 7177 Open: 7 days 6pm – til late Genghis Khan is a great restaurant; all you can eat plus a show! You can choose from a variety of meats, vegetables and sauces, which the chefs whip up before your very eyes. The food is delicious and you can make it how you want it. Best of all, you can try different combinations until you’re full. This is a great place for families and growing teens because there is something for everyone. With two convenient locations in the Campbelltown City Council area, you’re guaranteed to pick up a yummy treat ranging from Italian crusty bread, pizzas, Italian cakes and my favourite - a whole range of zeppoli; including sugar, chocolate and anchovy for a savoury alternative. As well as the obvious chicken on offer you can feast on fresh salads, burgers and chips. You could easily come away with a full belly and change from $5. Such a popular place can get pretty busy but the efficient staff will mean you don’t have to wait long at all. There is space to dine in or you can take away small packs or large catering platters which start at $35. It is also an ideal venue to hire for a function with a number of packages to choose from. Computers are available for you to access the internet and other programs. Or bring your own lap top or WIFI enabled device along and you can sign up to the library’s wireless network. Chill out in the youth space, check out the art gallery or borrow an iPad from the front desk to use within the library! Other services available include photocopying and printing services, a Justice of the Peace service, computer classes and a Dungeons and Dragons club. Just remember, if you’re under 18 and don’t have a library card yet, bring a parent or guardian with valid ID with you the first time you come in. At the skate park, hidden amongst the gum trees across the road from the Paradise Interchange! There are BBQ facilities available, a drinking fountain, toilets and an informal BMX track. Get active and use this FREE venue and work on your skate, scooter or BMX techniques! The Campbelltown Leisure Centre offers a wide variety of classes and activities to keep you moving. If you’re a fan of traditional sports such as basketball, netball, volleyball, badminton, or soccer you can join an existing team or start your own. Other activities include dance, roller skating and bias bowls. Fees and charges vary depending on the activity but start from $4.40 per game. Toilets and change rooms are available and there is ample car parking as well as a kiosk which operates the same hours as the office. The opening hours are 7.00am to 6.30pm (last tee-off) during daylight savings months and 7.00am to 5.30pm (last teeoff) during the winter months Lochiel Park Golf at Geoff Heath Par 3 is situated amongst the leafy surrounds of Fourth Creek. The golf course is ideal for beginners or those keen to work on their game. Prices are very reasonable, staff are friendly and always happy to assist. Facilities include a pro shop, selling a range of golfing equipment and products, a kiosk offering a selection of delicious food and drinks and outdoor social areas. Night time golf in summer is a great golfing novelty if you want something to do with mates on a warm summer’s night, it is exciting to see the glow-in-the-dark golf balls flying across the green. Instructors AJ and Olivia teach you the steps to move your body to the Latin inspired music. The Rumba Studio is Adelaide’s first exclusive studio that specialises in a range of Zumba Fitness programs. Personal Training sessions, boxing and a Rumba Circuit Fitness class is also on offer. There are over 37 classes a week, so you will be able to find a class that suits you! Take a few sausages or veggie burgers with you and make use of the BBQ’s with a view. There is a giant chess set, super playground, walking trail and kiosk. Thorndon Park is also home to many council community events! The Park is a bird sanctuary, which means you’ll have to leave your pooch at home, but you’ll see some amazing wildlife! This is a great spot to go for a hike with a group or just to have some time out on your own and get back to nature. The views are stunning and your body will benefit from an uphill walk or run. Wheelchairs and prams are accessible along a path to the impressive First Falls. Or make your way to your friends’ houses via the trail and be chilled out by the sounds of birds and trickling water. Many don’t know this beautiful icon of Adelaide is on their doorstep, and not only is it picturesque, it’s an efficient route through many areas, including the Paradise Interchange which can then help you head in a variety of directions without the use of a car. Linear Park has plenty of grassy areas for picnics, playgrounds and places to kick the footy or play cricket. Looking for a free place to have a friendly game of basketball or soccer? Or maybe you need a place for a barbecue with your mates? Look no further than Charlesworth Park. The Fitness Trail features a Shoulder Press/Lat Pull down, Ezy Rider, Sit up board, Cross Trainer, Push-up Bars & Butterfly Press. Each station has information about the muscle groups you’ll be working and some tips on how to use the equipment. There’s also a drinking fountain and lots of established and newly planted trees so you can rest and stay cool after working up a sweat. Athelstone CFS is a Brigade of the South Australian Country Fire Service, a community based fire and emergency service comprised of 15,000 volunteers across the State. Members need to live reasonably close to the Fire Station to ensure effective response times to incidents.
