CAMPBELLTOWN ARTS CENTRE Kids Ceramics - In Nature Monday 4 July, 10.30am-12 noon Many great artists identify the natural environment as a source of inspiration. In this ceramics workshop participants will look at creating natural objects and explore organic lines and shapes. Get messy as you learn clay building techniques and hands-on sculpting. Facilitator: Corrigan Fairbairn Cost: $5 Ages: 6-10 years NIDA Acting for Stage and Screen Wednesday 13 July-Thursday 14 July, 10am-4pm Experience the power of voice, movement and improvisation as you rehearse and perform scenes from plays, films and TV. Workshop scenes to camera and perform for family and friends at the end of the course. Facilitators : NIDA Open Cost: $260 Ages: 13-15 years Bookings and enquiries: www.open.nida.edu.au/winter Baby Wednesday Wednesday 6 July, 10-11am Baby Wednesday is a hands-on tour for babies, toddlers and their parents to enjoy the gallery and learn about works from the exhibition, The Gorge. The tour will provide an opportunity for infants and toddlers to engage with exhibition art works, alongside an informative tour for parents and carers. Facilitator: C-A-C Arts Educator Cost: $5 per child (parents, grandparents and carers free) Ages: 0-3 years accompanied by parents/carers Swedish Needle Weaving Thursday 14 July, 1-2.30pm In this workshop, students will work a panel of traditional Swedish needle weaving. The embroidered panel will decorate participants very own huckaback hand towel. Suitable for beginners and experienced embroiderers. Tutors: Embroiderers’ Guild of NSW Inc, Campbelltown Group Cost: $10 Materials: A kit including material, thread, needle and instructions will be provided. Please bring your preferred embroidery kit (scissors, pins, notebook, pen etc) if you have one. Basic embroidery tools will be available for use on the day. Ages: 12 years + (adults and young people all welcome) Insects at the Gallery Wednesday 6 July, 1-2pm Check out live insects and spiders with Stephen the Bug Man. Learn about all sorts of creepy crawlies and see how you can make a difference in the name of bugs – even in your own backyard. Tutor: Stephen Fellenberg (Friends of the Long Lost Phasmid Inc) Cost: $5 Ages: 5+ (children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult) Garden Houses (accessible program) Thursday 7 July, 10.30am-12.30pm Using natural materials and mixed media, participants will build whimsical houses for their garden or natural surrounds. We encourage participants to bring a natural object along such as seed pods or dried foliage to add to their creation. This workshop is open to children and young adults with and without a disability, and is suitable for beginners as well as experienced creatives. Tutor: Dianne McClaughlin Cost: $5 (carers are free) Einsteinz Music Friday 8 July, 10-10.45am (Toddlers 1-3years); 11-11.45am (Preschoolers 3yrs+) Einsteinz Music runs interactive music classes taught by professional musicians where all the music is “live” (no CDs played in the background). The energetic classes explore rhythm, tempo and pitch through a accessible repertoire and hands-on experience with percussion instruments. Fun and educational! Tutor: Einsteinz Music Cost: $12 (parents and carers free), second child $10 Ages: 1-3 or 3+ years. Siblings of different age groups are welcome to enroll together in the class appropriate to oldest child. Children must be accompanied by a parent or carer throughout workshop. Web: www.einsteinzmusic.com.au Wildlife Warriors - Endangered Animal Art Tuesday 12 July, 10.30am-12.30pm In this fun and informative workshop, participants will develop their art making skills and become ‘wildlife warriors’. The workshop will begin with an exploration of some of our local endangered species of flora and fauna, and continue with participants learning how to sketch one or more of these species. Participants will experiment with techniques for colouring their artwork using coloured inks, watercolour paints and pencils. Each participant will leave with a beautiful artwork to enter in the Macarthur Threatened Species Art Competition, to be displayed in libraries throughout Macarthur and help raise awareness of the plight of these threatened species. Many of these artists draw inspiration from beautiful natural surrounds of bushland, gorges and the banks of the Georges river. The masterclasses will include intensive workshops on ceramics, print making and an artist led bush walk. Suitable for adults and young adults, ages 16 years and older. Bushland Ceramics with Suzanne Archer Saturday 9 July, 10.30am-1.30pm In this workshop, participants will draw inspiration from bushland to create, ceramic pieces. Artist educator Suzanne Archer will support students to hand mold fanciful and creative ceramics objects, incorporating natural motifs such as flowers, animals, plants and insects. Students are encouraged to bring their own designs and ideas ready to begin creating and experimenting in this intensive session. Artist educator: Suzanne Archer Cost: $20 Ages: 16+ Face to Face - Printmaking with David Fairbairn Sunday 17 July, 10.30am-1.30pm This mono-printing workshop is designed to extend your skills and develop an emotive response to self-portraiture. Participants will be shown a range of innovative ways to build and layer images through the mono-printing medium. The stimulating and immediate process entails working directly onto a sheet of perspex and acetate with oil pastels or paint, then offset onto paper. Students are encouraged to bring accessories such as hats, scrarfs or sunglasses to enrich their self-portraits and produce exciting and pictorially interesting prints. Artist educator: David Fairbairn Cost: $20 Ages: 16+ Wedderburn - Artist bushwalk with David Hawkes and National Parks Association Sunday 10 July, 9.30am-2pm Meet 9.30am CAC entrance and drive back by 2pm (car pool options). Experience Macarthur’s national parks and wildlife trails with a walk especially for art and environment enthusiasts. Participants will bushwalk to select locations to sketch, paint or photograph the beauty of Macarthur’s natural surrounds. An experienced National Parks Association (NPA) guide will cofacilitate this program to share their expertise on plants, animals, history and environment of each area. Facilitators: Artist educator David Hawkes with National Parks Association Guide Cost: $20 Equipment: Walkers should wear suitable clothing, i.e (shoes, hat, sunglasses). Bring water, a snack and/or lunch. Bring your own art materials and equipment for sketching or painting, or a camera. Grade: All walks are on reasonable, mostly flat tracks. We’ll be arriving bright and early for a beginners skating lesson followed by a chance to win prizes in a variety of skating games and races!
