BPI 01-13 Dragging Brakes On Lifted Trucks
Bulletin BPI 01-13 Dragging brakes Subject: Dragging brakes on lifted trucks. Vehicles Involved: Any truck with a lift kit installed. May experience rear brake drag or failure of the parking brake to release. Repair Procedure: If a truck has a lift kit installed one important component may not be included in the package. It is a common problem for the original parking brake cables not to be long enough to correctly operate on a lifted truck. The illustration below shows a set of longer replacement cables installed on a Chevy that has been lifted a considerable amount. You may purchase pre-made extended length cables or simply purchase a universal length cable set and fit them to the correct length. Note: Disconnecting the cables because they are to short after the installation of a lift kit is not acceptable and must never be done.
