Dedication
This story is dedicated to the children of the
animal kingdom.
Domestic animal children bring us so much laughter
and unconditional love. We humans can’t imagine
living without a dog, cat, bird or other such being
decorating our lives.
Children of the animals of the wild, such as birds,
bear cubs, and whales, delight us humans with their
independence and wisdom.
Our dream is that one day, “the lion will lie down
with the lamb,” as it is written in the Holy Bible and
similar messages in other literary works. Our dream
is that we can all be friends, humans and other
animals, and appreciate the gifts that each brings to
colour our world.

Inspiration for This
Colouring Book
Supreme Master Ching Hai is the inspiration for
many books. She is a humanitarian, peacemaker,
world lecturer, television pioneer, best-selling author,
ambassador for loving kindness to humans and
other animals, environmentalist, artist, musician,
fashion designer, poetess and spiritual teacher. Her
remarkable efforts all go towards fulfilling a dream
of a peaceful and loving planet:
“I dream that the whole world will become
peaceful.
I dream that all the killing will stop.
I dream that all the children will walk in
peace and harmony.
6
I dream that all the nations will shake
hands with each other, protect each other,
and help each other.
I dream that our beautiful planet will not
be destroyed.
It takes billions, billions, and trillions of
years to produce this planet and it’s so
beautiful, so wonderful.
I dream that it will continue, but in peace,
beauty and love.”

The Pig in the Pink Tutu
Lian awakened early to a beautiful morning with the
sun streaming through her bedroom window. There
was not a cloud in sight! Even though she didn’t want
to leave her warm bed, she was excited about her
usual morning chores. That meant, right after her
breakfast of oatmeal and freshly squeezed orange
juice, she would do her most favourite thing—feed
the animals.
Lian lived at Sunshine Farm with her mom and dad
and two older brothers. Her brothers used to tease
her because she never wanted to eat animals and
didn’t want them to be harmed in any way. So, mom
and dad made it a rule never to eat animals. They
vowed to make their farm vegan. At 6 years old, Lian
already knew that her most important job in life was
to care for animals and try her best to protect them.

Lian was expecting another happy day, just like all the
others. She gobbled down her breakfast and headed
for the barn. Rooney the rooster was always first to be
fed and next, it was Gladys the cow.
“Hey Rooney, are you ready for breakfast?” She filled
his bowl from the bucket of veggies, fruits and grains
mother had prepared for her.
“Cock-a-doodle-doo,” shouted Rooney. Lian interpreted
this as “I’m famished” as she danced towards Gladys
and filled her bowl too!
“Good morning Gladys. Have I told you how beautiful
you are?” She could not imagine how anyone would
ever think of harming her. To show Lian that she
understood, Gladys batted her gorgeous big eyelashes.
13
Suddenly, Tessa, the family dog, came racing toward
Lian, interrupting her peaceful morning, barking
frantically, “Arf, arf, arf!” When Tessa had everyone’s
attention, she ran towards the woodshed, with Lian
and Rooney right on her heels.
“Look, here, behind the woodshed … I see something.
It looks like a little piglet, a baby pig,” yelled Lian.
“She’s covered in mud and shivering.”
“Don’t be scared little one, I won’t harm you,” said
Lian gently. “Tessa won’t either! She is just doing her
job. Oh my, you are covered in mud from head to toe,”
exclaimed Lian. “What has happened to you?”
“My name is Petula and I’m scared,” she cried. “I live
on the farm up the road. The man who owns the meat
shop came last week and took my brother away.”

“I am so sad because I know I will never see him
again. I loved him and miss him so much,” sobbed
Petula. “I was afraid that man would take me away
next, so I ran away!”
Rooney was beside himself in the background.
“Cluck, cluck, vegan, vegan, vegan, cluck, cluck.”
“What does that mean, Mr. Rooster, vegan, cluck,
vegan?” asked Petula.
“I’m saying this is a vegan farm! That means, we don’t
eat animals here, only fruits, vegetables and grains,”
stated Rooney emphatically.
“You mean, they won’t take me away?” pleaded the
young pig.
All the animals nodded their heads together,
“Yes, that’s right. You are safe here, Petula.”
17
“Would you like a bath? It will help you feel better,”
asked Lian. Petula agreed, as she had not had a bath
in a very long time. Lian turned to Tessa and invited
her to bring the garden hose. Tessa was very clever!
She always understood everything that was said.
Lian gently sprayed the water on Petula, rubbing
and scrubbing.
“Surprise, surprise, everyone! I can see she is a
beautiful piglet and the colour of a pale pink rose …
and she is wearing a bright pink tutu.” Lian jumped
for joy. “You must be a dancer!”
“Yes, I am,” said Petula with glee in her voice.” In
the morning sun, she truly looked like an angel in
her glowing rose-coloured skin and fluffy pink tutu.
“I love to dance. That’s why I am wearing this pink
tutu,” exclaimed Petula.
Lian grabbed her by the arms and twirled her around
18
and around.

“I like to dance too, Petula,” said Lian with a song
in her voice. “And … I have a pink tutu, too. We can
dance together and be best friends. Maybe you can
come and live with us?”
“Mom, please Mom, can Petula live with us?” Lian
asked excitedly.
“Yes, Lian,” said her mom, with a happy smile on
her face. “We will give her a wonderful home, if her
mom and dad agree. Then you’ll never need to worry
again, Petula. You’ll be safe here forever on our
vegan farm.”
