Draught Excluder Workshop - Edinburgh World Heritage
Draught Excluder Workshop EDINBURGH WORLD HERITAGE Teacher’s Guide This draught excluder workshop is a fun and interesting activity which allows your group to explore the concepts of energy efficiency in the home in an educational and tactile way. Introduction Introduce children to the concept of energy efficiency. This can be done by asking the group questions: > Where does our energy come from? Gas, coal, nuclear, renewable. > Why do we need to save energy? CO2 emissions, greenhouse gasses, climate change. > What ways can we save energy? Use less electricity/gas, use public transport, eat local food. > What is a draught excluder? Reduces drafts on doors or windows. > How can draught excluders help us save energy? Less draughts means hot air doesn’t escape, because of this you can turn your heating down but still stay as warm. If there is time undertake the ‘Find the Draught’ activity in order to allow children to understand how to identify drafts.
