Last year the office celebrated its 15th anniversary in Midland,
Cynthia Marshall recently purchased the franchise and works hard
to give fast, accurate and friendly service to Midland and the
surrounding areas. In the near future the office will be introducing
Small Business Support and Bookkeeping, helping interested
clients start their own entrepreneurship venture. Cyndi recently
returned back to the Midland area after completing her Bachelor of
Business Administration with three years of Business
Administration and Accounting from Georgian College. Having
spent her co-op placement’s working with Liberty Tax Service she
made the decision to purchase the franchise upon returning to the
area with her dog Ryder. Ryder is at the office on a daily basis and
greets the customers. Along with Ryder is the Leafy mascot that
can be seen waving to people around the town or attending events
such as Winterama.
With millions of happy clients since 1997, we’re your trusted tax

Midland & District OSPCA
The Ontario SPCA Midland & District Animal Centre has been
serving Midland and surrounding communities since first
opening its doors a few decades ago.
Through its province-wide network of 50 plus communities, the
Ontario SPCA is one of the largest, most responsive Animal
Welfare organizations in the country, providing care and shelter for
tens of thousands of animals every year. The Ontario SPCA is
unique amongst Animal Welfare organizations in Ontario
because the Ontario SPCA Act mandates the Society to enforce
animal cruelty laws and provides Society Animal Centre and
Affiliate investigators with police powers to do so.
In 2015, thanks to the support of volunteers and members of the
community, the Midland & District Animal Centre helped hundreds
of homeless and abandoned animals get their second chance at a
happy life by being adopted into a forever family.
Along with adoptions and cruelty investigations, the Centre
educates the community on topics relating to Animal Welfare and
works to reduce pet overpopulation in the area. The Centre also
holds various community events throughout the year, relying on the
dedication and commitment of regular volunteers and donors to
help keep the Centre operational.
There are many ways to get involved! Learn more about animals
available for adoption, volunteer opportunities, upcoming events
and more at midland.ontariospca.ca or by calling (705) 534-4459.
The public is invited to drop in any time during operating hours.
The Centre is open seven days a week and the animals and staff
looks forward to meeting you!

How to "Do It" ‐ Health & Safety for Your Small Businesses: Let ’s Make This Easier Some small business owners believe they'll escape the notice of Ministry of Labour (MOL) inspectors who surely have bigger fish to fry. The truth is that the MOL inspec‐
tors can't take their eyes off small businesses ‐ and no wonder. You comprise 90 per cent of Ontario firms and one‐third of its workforce. No matter how small your business is, you are held accountable for keeping employees safe. And keeping them safe means empowering them to recognize risks and act in their best interests. How to "do it" is the second of six critical steps to an effective health and safety program, designed by our trusted health and safety provider, Workplace Safety & Prevention Services (WSPS). The member to member program is a great way to
exchange benefits or discounts with other members and
is also a great way to reward employees.
Want a GRANT to TRAIN your workers? The Canada‐Ontario Job Grant offers Training Incentives to Employers. Additional key tags are available for
only $2 each.
The Canada‐Ontario Job Grant (COJG) is an innovative program that links skills training with real jobs. It helps Canadians get the training they need while helping employers get the right people with the right skills. Both the Government of Canada and the Government of Ontario are focused on creating jobs, economic growth and long‐term prosperity. The introduction of the Canada‐Ontario Job Grant will support this goal by bet‐
ter aligning training with employer needs. This will lead to more jobs for Canadians, help businesses grow and succeed and build a stronger, more skilled workforce. Employers are partners in the skills training system. By sharing in the cost of training, you are demonstrating your commitment to the continued success of your business and the Canadian economy. Why train your employees?
Training can improve business performance, profit and staff morale. The Canadian Apprenticeship Forum tells us that, on average, a $1 investment in training returns a benefit to the employer of $1.38. Train your workers and watch your team and business succeed! To apply for the Canada‐Ontario Job Grant (COJG) Visit: www.ontario.ca/employeetraining Contact La Clé de l’emploi/Employment Centre in Penetanguishene or the YMCA Employment Service in Midland to discuss your training needs and assist with the application process. What is best for your Business?
Pension Plan or Payroll Savings Plan?
Give your employees peace of mind for retirement
with a Group Retirement Savings Plan available
through your Chambers of Commerce.
Under the Chambers of Commerce Group Insurance Plan, employers have access to FutureStepTM, a
group Registered Retirement Savings Plan (RRSP) provided by Manulife, specifically designed to provide
employers choice and flexibility in a plan, while being easy to set up and manage.
What is a Group RRSP?
A group Registered Retirement Savings
Plan (RRSP) is a savings vehicle offered
by an employer to his/her employees as a
way to save for their retirement. Employees
can contribute to the plan and attain certain
tax advantages.
The plan is simple to administer, with no administration cost to
the employer and available to companies with as few as two
employees. FutureStep offers best-in-class investment
options, education and online services. With regular
contributions, a FutureStep plan provides immediate tax relief
to your employees, which in turn increases their savings. Not
only will employees’ money go to work sooner, low
management fees allow them to build greater retirement
income for the future.
The plan includes fast and easy online enrolment and ongoing online administrative support, including
live support from a customer service centre and licensed financial specialists.
For even greater flexibility, FutureStep is also available with a Deferred Profit Sharing Plan (DPSP)
option, allowing you, the employer, to contribute to the plan based upon the profitability of your
business.
As a business owner, you understand the importance of attracting and retaining valuable employees.
Knowing your employees are your key competitive advantage, a group retirement savings plan helps
businesses like yours be competitive and take care of your employees’ future financial needs.
