There is still a plinth board to be added to the bottom of the panels to prevent loss of the surface. We request that members remove all manure and rake the surface after use (rake and bucket supplied) This will preserve the surface and keep the round yard in good condition for years to come. The round yard must not be used for securing/ housing your horse, we have several secure yards for this use. Mid week Rally The first mid week rally was held on 6th February. It was very hot but 12 riders braved the heat. Mid week has a very keen group of riders, so if anyone can manage to get the first Thursday in the month free, come along and join in. Just reply to the reminder email sent out to members on the Monday before the rally. HEAT POLICY After discussing the issues surrounding our recent hot weather the Committee has decided to implemented a Heat Policy. If the temperature is going to be 35+ all rallies will begin at 8am and finish at 11am. Consideration has been given to both horse, riders and instructors. This hopefully will only impact on a small amount of rallies during the summer months. IMPORTANT REMINDER Members please be reminded that the Club is on tank water and it would be appreciated if riders limit their time for washing their horses to no more than one 1-2 minutes. A quick wash of saddle, neck and legs areas is all that is needed which will then preserve our limited tank water. Thanks for your cooperation. PAGE 3 MOOROODUC SADDLE CLUB NEWS Instruction Rallies—newly form Sub Committee The Committee has established a subcommittee to look at our instruction rallies and their content. We have had several suggestions from members and we are looking at adding games, quadrill and specialist instructors to our rally formats. Please if you have any ideas the Committee would be only too happy to look at members suggestions Just email us and we can see what we can do. Canteen Roster for 2014 We have a new canteen roster and all hours worked goes towards your 10 hours of Club Service. Members will be asked to help once a year at a Sunday rally. Three volunteers are required per rally to help with the BBQ, kitchen and clean up duties. There will be a Committee member coordinating the purchase of the food so what we need is members to help with preparation and selling of the food. If you have a preference for a specific month please email us otherwise each members will be allocated a Sunday rally. Please help us keep the canteen up and running which will assist in keeping the cost of the food down. VALE FOR CHESTER Chester joined the Kelly herd around six years ago as a yearling after I found him at a Council pound. He had escaped from his paddock and was unclaimed and heading for the knackery. I paid $50 for him unseen on the pretext that he was a Welsh Mountain Cross but when I picked him up from the shelter I could see he had not a shred of Welsh Mountain in him. He was very under nourished and wormy and after lots of TLC I broke him in and started to ride him. My intention was to sell him on to a young rider but he kept growing and as a mature horse measured 16.2. Fortunately Grant took a fancy to him and they became great mates and trail riding buddies. He was the life and fun of our little herd always up to mischief but he was such a delightful horse we could never get mad at him. Chester unfortunately developed a malignant eye tumour which was inoperable and after persevering for six weeks after the diagnosis the difficult decision had to be made. Grant and I will remember him as a handsome, friendly, though somewhat clumsy horse (he tripped over a lot) who will be missed terribly by us both and by his two best pals BJ and Jack. Gayle and Grant h FUNDRAISER - CAR BOOT SALE—12 APRIL Car Boot Sale April 12th. 2014 As most members are aware we now have a very impressive round yard completed, which will be of much use for many members. To keep improving the club we need some fundraising. To help, the committee have decided to have a Car boot sale. The stalls will be $25. While keeping with the horsey theme we are open for other items to be sold as well. We need to get as many sellers as possible to make this event work. So get your gear together and book a stall. Tell friends and family the more the merrier!!. See flyer to follow. HRCAV News The competing year has commenced again with lots of Horse Shows, dressage and combine training competitions coming up. We have ten members riding in the Moorooduc Club colours, so if you are interested in having a go there is plenty of support from fellow riding members. The Merricks Dressage Competition is on Monday 10th March (Labour Day weekend) and I know we have at least five members competing, so come and have a look to see what it is all about. Our club colours are grey/white and gold. The Tack Box will bind a white saddle blanket with our colours and Westernport Embroidery will embroider our logo on your shirt or vest. If you have a club t-shirt, that is also acceptable to compete in. Its great fun and the atmosphere at all the competitions is one of supporting the adults riders in their advancement of training their horses and improving their riding skills.
