Wise & Otherwise
by Fr. Cesta
Autumn is A Traditional Time of Homecoming for Schools, Football games & reunions.
You are invited to take part in inviting and encouraging relatives or friends or both, to a Spiritual
Homecoming. Often a brief word of invitation will encourage someone to return to weekend Catholic
Mass with so many of us who gather for the Sacraments. We all know and are close to people of different ages who are away from our Catholic weekend worship and would benefit from the grace and
blessings of God’s beautiful House. Please cut out the Autumn Homecoming Weekend invitation and
pass it along to someone you know. Maybe through your good example on the last weekend of
October—29/30, we will be blessed with new faces at the altar.

A Steward is one who is entrusted with the management of
things not his own, and stewardship is the act of being a steward. Simply put, Christian stewardship is not merely the giving
of money to the “Owner of everything.” It is the caring for a ll
the things with which we are
entrusted. How do we measure
up as caretakers?

Calling all
Knitters/
Crocheters and
Crafty People
This Christmastime, the Pastoral
Visitors to the nursing homes
and homebound would like to
take lap blankets to the people
they visit. Handmade blankets
would be an especially wonderful gift, but because we have 160
people that are visited, we will
bring any new lap blankets to
them. To allow our Pastoral Visitors time to make their visits, we
are asking that blankets be
brought to Church by Dec. 9. If
you have any questions, please
contact Rosemarie Chiffy at 7356832.
Pie & Bake Sale
The Social Committee is requesting your assistance for baking
for their annual Fall Bake Sale
on Nov. 19 & 20. While there is
an “Autumn” theme, all baked
goods will be appreciated. Call
Terry Reale with questions at
733-4536.
Don’t forget to put in your orders
for pies or Cucidati Cookies by
November 6.

For the next several weeks, we
will include a brief blurb about
Pastoral Planning:
What are the Consultative
Groups that Support the Bishop
in his Care of the Diocese?
•
The Presbyteral Council is a
representative body of diocesan priests that helps the bishop in the governance of the
diocese. This council in mandated by Canon Law.
•
The College of Consultors
serves as a body of advisors
to the diocesan bishop, particularly in matters of importance. In the Diocese of
Syracuse, the consultors include the vicar general, vicar
for the priests, vicar for parishes, regional vicars, and the
chairperson of the Presbyteral
Council. In matters of pastoral planning, the College of
Consultors reviews recommendations from the Pastoral
Care Areas and synchronizes
them into a cohesive diocesan
-wide plan.
•
The Diocesan Pastoral Council (DPC) works in consultation with the Bishop. This
council investigates, ponders
and proposes pastoral initiatives for the good of the people of the diocese. Each parish and key diocesan ministries are represented by designated delegates. The DPC
meets four times a year.
It’s not too late to make a donation to the HOPE APPEAL. We
have a goal of $38,244. and have
received $23,119. from 223 generous donors. Place your donation in an envelope marked Hope
Appeal and place it in the collection basket or send it to the Parish Office. The Hope Appeal for
this year concludes on November
30.
THANKSGIVING
“FIXINS”
This year our Neighbor to Neighbor project will help the
Veterans served by the Central
New York Veterans Outreach
Center. We would like to collect
any of the “fixins” that go with a
traditional Thanksgiving Meal:
Canned vegetables, corn, peas,
green beans squash, gravy, stuffing mix, cranberries, cranberry
sauce, potatoes, pudding & nonrefrigerated pie crust. Please
bring your donations with you
when you come for weekend
Mass and place them at the side
altar in the designated area, OR
place your monetary donation in
the collection basket marked
“Thanksgiving Donation”. The
deadline will be Sunday, Nov.
20.

Prayer for Vocations
God our Father, You made each
of us to use our gifts in the Body
of Christ. We ask that You inspire young people whom you
call to priesthood and consecrated life to courageously follow
Your will.
Send workers into Your great
harvest so that the Gospel is
preached, the poor are served
with love, the suffering are comforted, and Your people are
strengthened by the sacraments.
We ask this through Christ Our
Lord. Amen
