TURN YOUR KITCHEN
SCRAPS INTO RICH SOIL
8thnbee.com
It’s easy to turn your kitchen scraps into yummy soil that your garden and plants will love!
Worm castings are like manna for the soil, rich in essential beneficial probiotics.
Here’s an easy-to-follow guide to set up your own worm bin:
1
Pick a Container
A plastic bin or wood box works great
1 square foot in area per 1 lb of food waste you create in a week
Punch holes in container sides & bottom for circulation & drainage
Place window screen mesh on bottom so worms don’t escape!
2
Add Container
Bedding
Add Food and Worms
Add the food waste.
Spread it out into a shallow layer.
Strips of old newspaper,
leaves, peat moss all work
well — about 6″ deep
Dampen before adding
3
NO MEATS, BONES, OILS OR DAIRY PRODUCTS
Add 1 lb worms per ½ lb of
food waste you’ll create in a week
(Red Worms or Red Wigglers)
Cover everything with 2″ of damp bedding
Add a lid — plastic, plywood or cloth
4
Feed, Water, and Fluff
Feed your worms about once a week
Fluff the bedding for air circulation
Spray the bedding if it starts to dry out
VOILA! Over time the worms will create nutrient-rich material to blend into your garden.
