The next day, I decided to drive to Blaine, Washington to see the Peach Arch on the Washington/ Canadian border. After getting lost and ending up headed south again, I decided to postpone until Michael the navigator was along for the ride. The facility is huge, and boasts two, yes two, roller coasters, a huge stadium, a carousel, and exhibition halls, one faced to look like multiple buildings, which I thought the look was a nice contrast to most fairground exhibit halls. The state fair held here, ranks as one of the largest fairs in the world. While a staff of 55 works year round, it takes over 1,900 to put on the annual fair. There were hundreds of sewing and quilting vendors, and it took most of a day to wander through. Finding Roots It’s really popular now to trace your family tree, so I rounded out my trip with a cousin, and learned a few new things about my family. So close and so far, it seems we grew up within 20 miles of each other. My family visited her grandmother often, but we met about 10 years ago. 03/03: Heida Photography, Zion Church, 7 pm, 03/05: Lois Miller’s Celebration of Life, 11am, Community Building 03/05: Lois Miller’s Art at Point B Gallery 1pm 03/05: Shannon Applegate, Langlois Library, 7pm 03/08: Homeless forum, POLib, 1 pm 03/11: Art Gala 5:30 & Auction 6:30 PO Library 03/12: Project Graduation Auction 5:00 pm PHS Gym 03/18: Author’s Night, Langlois Library, 6:30 pm 03/25: Poetry Winners Page COMMUNITY NEWS Lois Miller Celebration of Life Domestic & Imported Cheeses, Salumi, Olives, Sauces, Mustards, Vinegars Housemade Soups and Freshly Baked Goods Wednesday—Sunday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. 832 Oregon Street Port Orford, OR 97465 541-253-8499 A celebration of life will be held this Saturday, March 5th, at 11 am at the Community building for Lois Miller.
