STEWARDSHIP REPORT
Weekend of November 12-13, 2011
On behalf of the members of our Parish we thank
you for continuing to live faithful Stewardship and
for using your Sunday envelopes. St. Gianna’s last
weekend collection amounted to $8,471.
OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST THE KING
S
F
irst Reading: Ezekiel 34:11-12, 15-17
This passage beautifully describes how the Lord
God, as shepherd, will tend his flock. He will rescue
those who are lost, bring back those who stray, heal
the sick, and “pasture” all.
S
econd Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:20-26, 28
Paul once again stresses the significance of
Christ’s resurrection in the total divine plan, emphasizing that Christ’s rising means that those who believe in him will also rise after death. Christianity,
he argues, is meaningless if it concerns only this life
on earth. In the end, even death will be destroyed,
and “God will be all in all.”
G
ospel: Matthew 25:31-46
With words both poetic and vivid, Jesus tells
the disciples that since he is present in all people,
whatever they do to “one of my least brothers” they
do to him; and whatever they fail to do to his “least,”
they fail to do to him.
“Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of
these least ones, you did not do for me.” (Matthew 25:45b)
I
n today’s readings we see that Jesus is the Good
Shepherd who will care for us in our time of need.
However, our relationship with Jesus should not be
all take and no give. We, in turn, are expected to live
Stewardship by caring for one another just as Jesus
cares for us.
THIS
WEEK NOT ONLY MARKS THE END OF THE LITURGICAL YEAR BUT ALSO SERVES AS A TIMELY MOMENT OF GRACE FOR LOOKING AHEAD TO YEAR B OF
THE LITURGICAL CYCLE TO CELEBRATE OUR LIFE IN
CHRIST AND OUR SPIRITUAL GROWTH.

aint Gianna Parish Family, Visitors, and
Friends at this time of Thanksgiving we pause
to count our blessings. We thank You for your
love, support, and goodness to our Parish and we
extend to you our best wishes for a Happy and
Healthy Thanksgiving Day. May almighty God
bless you and those whom you love!

SHARING IN THE SPIRIT
OF THANKSGIVING
All are invited to this Wednesday’s Bilingual
(English and Spanish) Mass at 7:00 PM. In the
spirit of sharing our blessings with those who
are less fortunate, packages of non-perishable
food are invited to be brought to be placed in
the hampers at the sanctuary steps. Baskets will
also be provided to receive gifts of money for
persons less fortunate than ourselves. It is
kindly requested that the items and the money
be brought in procession at the Offertory rather
than before Mass upon arrival. Thus, the connection between Thanksgiving and the Eucharist (the word means thanksgiving) is made
clearer. The food and money will be taken to
Catholic Charities in Atlantic City for distribution to needy families who come there seeking
assistance. The Mass will include both English
and Spanish music and song selections. In an
expression of gratitude, our Latino parishioners
invite all to refreshments and hospitality in the
Gathering Area after the Mass.
LITTLE CHILDREN,
BELIEVE, PRAY, AND LOVE,
AND GOD WILL BE NEAR YOU

PRIORITY CORNER UPDATE
O
ccasionally, we would like to update our parish
on the goals and accomplishments of the Six
Pastoral Priorities (Liturgy, Compassionate Outreach,
Lifelong Faith Formation, Youth and Young Adults,
Vocations, and Lay Ministry).
Liturgy-Instituted a three-person committee to oversee the care and maintenance of the plants on the altar. We have expanded the care of the small altar linens-there are now more linens available for daily use,
i.e. large corporals, finger towels, purificators (a
large thank you to Dorothy Powell, for her sewing,
and to the ladies who faithfully attend to the washing
& ironing of the linens).
Vocations-Thanks to the work of Pete Marchetti,
Key Person of Vocations, we will be hosting Fr.
Romano, Diocese of Camden Vocations Director, the
weekend of January 14th and 15th. Fr. Romano will
speak at all the Masses and he will meet with the
Youth Group in the Parish Memorial Center-Parish
Hall for a luncheon and talk. Prayer cards for Vocations will be given to the Youth Group and have already been given to the Sodality and the Tuesday
Morning Prayer Group.
Compassionate Outreach-We successfully held our
third Annual Mass of the Anointing of the Sick on
October 13th in the afternoon where approximately 35
people from the area were anointed in a beautiful liturgy led by Fr. Brady and Msgr. Sharkey.
We will be displaying our current supply of newly
knitted/crocheted lap blankets for distribution at the
three nursing homes in our parish. We are still looking for more people to help with the knitting/
crocheting!!
Our collection on the first weekend of each month of
non-perishable food items is going strong and has a
new volunteer to put the reminder in the bulletin each
month (Eileen Zavaglia). This ministry is also
known as Loaves and Fishes. Please keep up the
good work of providing food for the needy. This is
truly God’s work!
Please look for more updates next week and in the
weeks to follow. As always, if you wish to become a
part of any of these ongoing projects, please place
your contact information in the collection basket or
call the parish office at 646-5611. Thank you!!

DOMINGO 20 DE NOVIEMBRE, 2011
E
