Tel: 01579 348544. www.swaat.co.uk. info@swaat.co.uk Meet The Team! Mike Kent – Centre Manager As well as running the centre Mike is an assessor as well as running the APHC Solid Fuel and BPEC Biomass courses. With over 40 years’ experience in the plumbing, heating and refrigeration industries Mike is well aware of how the work-place has evolved over the years and the need for updating key skills and knowledge. Sally Kent – Trainer/Assessor Sally has a wealth of experience in the heating, electrical and renewables industries and has since turned her skills to the refrigeration industry, chiefly heat pumps and air conditioning. In her spare time she likes to read the 17 th Edition book and re-wire her home. Kevin Kendall – Trainer/Assessor An experienced gas service and breakdown engineer who has found his 'niche' in training. Happy to share his wealth of knowledge and experience with whoever will listen to him, Kev has proven to be an invaluable key player in the company, running many of the courses we offer. Claire Skews – Administrator Claire has been with South West Assessment and Training for over five years now and is a much valued member of the team. Along with Josie she is the person to speak to when you aren’t sure what qualification you need to undertake. Josie Wilkinson – Administrator Josie keeps a ‘tight ship’ at SWAAT making sure that assessment materials are in place before they commence as well as ensuring that as soon as they are completed they are processed. Paul Lower – Facilities Manager For many, Paul is the first face they’ll see when they arrive at SWAAT as he is at the centre bright and early every day making sure that everything is ready. 6 1 Owen Sivell Close, Liskeard Business Park, Liskeard, Cornwall, PL14 3US. Tel: 01579 348544. www.swaat.co.uk. info@swaat.co.uk Case Studies Anna Gubbins Anna is an oil heating engineer who came to South West Assessment and Training to undertake the OFTEC Oil course to enable her to carry out commissioning and servicing of oil appliances. She states "The course provided me with the confidence to know I could go out on my own to service oil fired boilers. The Oftec books are also useful tools and we learnt about new regulations as well as the practical side to servicing boilers. SWAAT is local to us and were very helpful in accommodating me on dates which were convenient to me. I would definitely recommend SWAAT to others as the whole team are friendly and approachable, and I know I could ring up with questions and they would do their best to help me”. M.K. Pipework M.K. Pipework is a commercial pipe fitting company who, after undertaking training previously at the centre came to us for help in putting together comprehensive health and safety policies and procedures to ensure the safety of their employees. Kevin sat down with the directors of the company and systematically went through their current practices and how they approach each task from a health and safety perspective. He then suggested some minor changes to these practices and put in place a number of method statements, risk assessments, policies and safer working practices. As a result the company were able to gain ‘Safe Contractor' status and have since been awarded a number of contracts that were previously unobtainable. Managing Director Matt Lewis says; “Without the help of South West Assessment and Training and especially Kevin, we would never have been able to work on the projects we are currently working on. We found the whole process of dealing with health and safety daunting but SWAAT made it common sense and, as such, we now have a much safer working environment”. 7 1 Owen Sivell Close, Liskeard Business Park, Liskeard, Cornwall, PL14 3US.
