OFG team members help kids
get the special care they need
Thanks to the tremendous support of our dedicated team
members and their families who selflessly volunteer their
time and energy, we’ve achieved an outstanding level of
fundraising success for children’s hospitals in BC and AB.
Congratulations and thanks a million to all who participated in making
the BC Children’s Hospital Miracle Weekend a success. This year, OFG
was recognized as the largest Miracle Weekend contributor.
Thanks to these efforts, we’ve helped make some important
improvements to facilities that support the health of kids across
BC and AB — a reality. With the money raised over the past 3
years, we’ve contributed to the following projects:

Here’s a look at just some of the great ways OFG teams are leading their communities
to help raise funds for children’s hospitals.
miles for smiles
This year, the Save-On-Foods team at Sardis in Chilliwack
challenged stores in Edmonton to join in on their 3rd
Annual “Miles for Smiles” fundraising event in support
of children’s hospitals in AB and BC.

Wye Road shows their stuff.
Alberta Save-On-Foods team members at Wye Road,
Namao and Kingsway walked, ran, bicycled and strode 1,500 kms (the distance from
Chilliwack to Edmonton and back) on stationary exercise equipment.
Folks in each community got involved and pledged the racers – celebrating with music,
food and entertainment the whole way. In total, $13,000 was raised to support the kids.

Playground, Save-On-Foods Hampton hosted
their 2nd annual “Carnival Day”.

community fun and excitement with face
painting, a bouncy castle, a pie throw,
a BBQ and more. During the afternoon
of fun, they raised $2,300 for the hospital
and received rave reviews from their
neighbours and customers.
PriceSmart Foods
stores take part in
Canada Day celebration
On July 1, team members and volunteers from
PriceSmart Foods at Cloverdale, Clayton and
King George came together at the Cloverdale Fair
Grounds in Surrey, BC for the largest Canada
Day celebration in the west. With 100,000 in
attendance, the stores proudly represented
PriceSmart Foods—and raised an outstanding
$2,200 for BCCH through the sale of bottled water.
The bakery team at PriceSmart Foods Cloverdale brought a cool cake to the
Canada Day festivities in Surrey, BC. The cake was made up of 861 cupcakes.

Classic Fore
Kids is a success
More than 370 OFG suppliers came out to support
the 15th Annual Classics Fore Kids Golf Tournament.
This year the event raised a record $1 million for BC
Children’s Hospital. To date the tournament has raised
nearly $4 million for the charity.
Thanks to fundraising efforts led by team members
and supported by customers and business partners,
OFG has contributed more than $14 million to support
Children’s Hospitals in BC and Alberta.
scholarship award winners
Clarence Heppell Scholarship winner
The Clarence Heppell Scholarship, named in honour of one of our
former presidents, is awarded to a team member or dependent of
a team member with at least one year of service, who is graduating
from high school and proceeding into a full time degree or diploma
program at an accredited college or university. The successful
recipient of this scholarship demonstrates outstanding academic
achievement and community support.
Congratulations to Tiffany Chen, the 2010 recipient of the Clarence
Heppell Scholarship. Tiffany is the daughter of Andy Chen, a Systems
Analyst in the IT Department in the Langley Office. Andy has been with
OFG for over 11 years. Tiffany’s plan is to attend the UBC School of
Music and her dream is to become a secondary school music teacher.
She’s passionate about music and she wants to share that passion with
children of all ages.

strong commitment to helping others and she’s a positive role model
among her peers – she was even chosen to chair a community club

and supports the spirit of volunteering and it’s something that she strongly advocates and takes an active role in. Tiffany likes to
challenge herself and is continuously looking for opportunities to learn. We’re pleased to help support Tiffany as she works toward her
career goals.

From city-wide festivals to neighbourhood barbecues,
OFG teams do a great job of getting out into our
communities to have some fun and make a difference.
Here are just some of the ways we’re proudly local.
Kids enjoy decorating Save-On-Foods fridge magnets
at the 2010 International Alberta Children’s Festival.
During the International Children’s Festival held in
St. Albert, AB in June 1–5, the festival site came alive
with thousands of children singing and dancing to
music, interacting with performers and learning about
healthy food at the Save-On-Foods Nutritional Tent.
During “Meet A Rancher Weekend,” Save-On-Foods customers
learned all about how their food gets from the farm to their fork
celebrating local ranchers
Festival attendance was over 57,000. At the SaveOn-Foods Nutritional Tent, it was all about the kids
with 5 stations set up for kids to talk to our registered
dietitians about making healthy eating choices for
themselves.
During “Meet A Rancher Weekend” on August 28 & 29, BC ranchers
and select Save-On-Foods stores joined forces to help customers
learn more about where their food comes from.
For a fun activity, kids got a blank Save-On-Foods
Fridge Magnet that they could decorate with stickers
and markers. What a great way to get out and support
our communities.
Team members offered samples of product and ranchers talked to
customers about beef, how to select it and provided tips for creating
mouth-watering dishes. The event was a success and gave our
customers a better understanding of how BC beef gets to their table.

year’s Steveston Salmon Fest. They had lots of fun
handing out treats to huge crowds and even took home
1st place for bringing the best mascot.

In partnership with OFG and Global BC TV, the BC Ministry of Tourism,
Arts and Culture created the “You Gotta Be Here This Summer” contest
here as part of the “Small Town BC” program, which airs on Global BC
News.
The contest was designed to encourage BC residents to travel and
discover their province this summer. Over 6,500 BC residents sent in
photos of what they believe are “the most beautiful places to be” in BC.

packages.
OFG is proud to support local farmer’s markets
in all regions of BC. On September 18, team
members from Save-On-Foods Orchard Park
Plaza joined the BC Association of Farmers’
Markets (BCFMA) and BC’s Minister of
Agriculture, Steve Thomson, at the Kelowna
farmer’s market to celebrate the first-ever BC
Farmer’s Appreciation Week. To commemorate
the event, the bakery team brought a
beautiful cake to share with attendees and

The contest’s grand prize was a BBQ for their community, sponsored by
their local OFG store. The lucky winner was Lisa Faulds, a resident of the
