Ben Lomond Bunkhouse
SILVER
Things to do in the area
Ben Lomond Bunkhouse is owned by the
National Trust for Scotland and sits on the east
side of Loch Lomond by Rowardennan, right
beside the West Highland Way. It is a great base
for walking clubs or large groups of friends, and
is ideally located for bagging Ben Lomond, for
exploring the Trossachs and Arrochar Alps, as an
overnight stop-off when tackling the longdistance trail or simply for enjoying some time
in peaceful surroundings.
Ben Lomond (974m) is the most southerly
Munro and one of the most popular due to its
accessible location. The summit offers fantastic
views across much of central Scotland.

Guided walks
Cycling
This long-distance route runs
from Milngavie to Fort William
(96 miles) and takes in some
spectacular Highland scenery
along the way. The section by Ben
Lomond involves a few forest
tracks but mostly follows the
lochside path.
The rangers offer a variety
of guided walks on the estate.
They can be pre-booked
for groups and will talk
about the wildlife, history and
archaeology, as well as explain
the vital conservation work
carried out by the Trust.
Although the terrain on the
east side of Loch Lomond is
tough for biking, cycles may
be taken on the waterbus to
the west shore, where there
are several excellent off-road
cycle routes. Contact the
rangers for advice.
The nearest bus stop is at Balmaha
(7 miles) – www.mcgillsbuses.co.uk
The nearest train station is at Balloch

Alternatively, there is a bus from
