We count ourselves most blessed by the continuous provision of our Heavenly Father through the generous support of each one of you listed among these pages. Looking through this volume brings to mind the chaos and loss for a short time has made a home in challenging days of late 2012 as we faced the wrath each of our hearts for gratitude and peace for the of Hurricane Sandy; specifically I think of coming gifts of living in safety, warmth and in the company of together in the dark and cold Church to celebrate a loving community. the Eucharist together – to meet with our Comforter and to be together as a family. God used each of you to make a way where there seemed to be no way. For this and the many unseen acts of kindness and selflessness you performed, we remain indebted to you and to Him for the support we received. Although wildly inadequate, I offer to each of you my heartfelt thanks and prayers of blessing for providing St. Rose with these gifts of treasure, prayer and support during a dark time. I invite you to come to St. Rose, enjoy the beauty of this wonderful community and know you will always be a welcome member of our family. Joyfully in the Lord, Perhaps most importantly, our hearts are also changed. Compassion, determination, collaboration in each of us has been honed by the sharp testing. Our awareness of the suffering of others is more acute because of our own suffering. Living amidst Rev. Msgr. Edward J. Arnister Pastor two | St. Rose High School | | Annual report of giving 2012-2013 | | St. Rose High School | Dear St. Rose Family, The 2013-2014 year marks a very important milestone in the history of St. Rose High School. Founded in 1923 by the Parish of St. Rose in the tradition of the Sisters of Saint Joseph, this fall marked the 90th anniversary of the school’s opening. Dedication to the mission of Catholic education and commitment to academic excellence by the Sisters, administrators, faculty and staff is what makes the St. Rose foundation strong and enduring. While we have faced many changes and challenges not at St. Rose. Instead, our students, parents, faculty over the last 90 years one thing has always remained and alumni rolled up their sleeves and got to work the same, the mission. St. Rose High School commits re-establishing our school in just two weeks. In the to providing students with “prepared hearts and process we learned that it is not the circumstances minds to reflect, to judge, and to choose in the light that define you, but your response to them; and that of Christ’s teachings” (SRHS Mission Statement). This there is no tragedy so great that your faith will not see past year alone, our Class of 2013 was awarded over you through. Most importantly we learned that it is not $14.8 million dollars in scholarships at the nation’s the walls or the buildings that define St. Rose but the best colleges and universities, an average of $122,500 spirit of the community. per student! The 1:1 iPAD program was expanded to Catholic education that thousands of families have include the Class of 2017. Now each freshman and enjoyed for the last 90 years. Without your generosity sophomore uses an iPAD for instruction and in almost and willingness to support St. Rose, we would not be all subject areas their textbooks are available on the able to realize the essential differences that make iPAD as well. Our International student program has St. Rose strong. grown from 7 to 17 students and in this, our 90th year, we will graduate our first international alumni! May God bless you as you have blessed us. That is more than enough to be proud of but we Gratefully, find even greater joy knowing that all of this was accomplished even as our school community faced tremendous hardship in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. In any other community, the losses suffered Sister Kathleen Nace, SSJ would surely have marked the end of the school but Principal five | Annual report of giving 2012-2013 | We are grateful for the generosity of the following individuals and organizations, each of whom made a gift to St. Rose during the 2012-2013 giving year. | St. Rose High School | Thank you. | Annual report of giving 2012-2013 | eight | St. Rose High School | 1923 Leadership Society The 1923 Leadership Society is comprised of donors who display exceptional commitment to the advancement of the school by virtue of their gifts of $1,000 or more. McMahon Mr. and Mrs. Richard Seuffert Mr. Mark and Mrs. Pamela Sidoti Ms. Catherine Spoehr Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wagner Ms. Rose Webster Hurricane Sandy The aftermath of Hurricane Sandy’s strike in October of 2012 will not soon be forgotten. The devastation to the New Jersey coastline was catastrophic by all accounts, leaving thousands without homes and taking 285 lives. Belmar suffered tremendously, including shocking damage to St. Rose High School. The lower level of all buildings had up to nine feet of water, 800 pounds of fish and the now infamous turtles swimming in the halls. All Administrative Offices, the Chapel, Cafeteria, seven classrooms, the technology, art and science departments and much more were complete losses. The infrastructure of the electric and HVAC systems were all ruined by salt water that remained in the building for days. With extraordinary leadership and the grace of God, St. Rose High School re-opened the same day as local public schools that sustained no damage. The duration of the school year included modified class locations and the kind cooperation of all on campus as the lower levels remained unusable and under construction. Teams of volunteers worked inside and out to ensure a smooth return to classes and a sense of calm for our students. St. Rose High School received an astounding outpouring of assistance from all over the world, providing not just critical and incredibly generous financial support -- but hope and encouragement when needed most. Our Alumni, Parents of Alumni, Parents, and friends new and old responded quickly and made our complete recovery possible, while illustrating clearer than ever before the beautiful truth of how much of a family the St. Rose community remains, even long after our students leave Seventh Avenue. The families, students and faculty of St. Rose continue to pray for great blessings on those that ensured a complete and beautiful recovery for our School. | St. Rose High School | Roll Call of Donors Sandy Relief Ms. Catherine Abercrombie ’96 Ms. Tracey Bielicki ’85 Ms. Ann M. Emily was devastated by the losses in the wake of Hurricane Sandy particularly those wreaked upon the Art Department. Emily quickly put to work one of her beautiful paintings by creating notecard sets for sale to the local community, the proceeds of which were directed to the restoration of the Art Department. Her compassion and dedication to our cause resulted in over $2,000 raised in support of her alma mater.
