TAILSPINS Page 1 October Meeting Minutes 10/4/2012, Montgomery County Fairgrounds, 7:30 PM Attended by 16 members Field Report : Bob Clark and other volunteers continue to clear out the trees and shrubs on the East side of the field. Twelve truck loads of debri was hauled away a week ago. Although Bob was not present to give an update due to recent cataract surgery, he has promised to stop once he reaches Dixie Ave. Old Business : Sept 14th & 15th was Santiago's Helicopter Fun Fly. There were approximately 45 pilots registered to fly by mid-day Saturday. After all expenses were paid, the event made $765. This event has clearly become our second biggest money maker. It deserves our support and assistance during future events. On Sept 30th, we held our annual President's Fun Fly. It was a beautiful day, even though a bit windy. We served approximately 40 steaks, 14 chicken breasts, baked potatoes, and rolls. Hamburgers and hot dogs were available for the children. It's great to be a Wingmaster. The $2,900 check will be turned over to the Hospice of Dayton folks on October 9th. We'll include pictures in the next newsletter. As an aside, the event earned approximately $500 more than last year, due in large part to a raffle Paul Stimmel held at his work place that specialized in booze, booze, & more booze. New Business : The nomination process for our 2013 officers was begun. Before any nominations were taken, President Stimmel announced that he would neither seek nor accept a 5th term as President. He emphasized that serving has been a joy and privilege but he is "out of gas" and wants someone new to step forward and offer new ideas. He promises to remain a member in good standing and continue to volunteer & help out in the club wherever he is needed. He was given a round of applause for the time he has served and the programs he has overseen which includes the electrification of our field. Thanks for all your work, Paul. With that, the following nominations were made from the floor: Note: Additional nominations will be taken during the November meeting and then the election will be held. President: Jerry Humston Joe Saylor Vice-President: Romy Schwieterman Ken Eubanks Treasurer: Bob Bush Secretary: Jerry Harsch Newsletter Editor: Jerry Humston $25.00 Gift Certificate Winners: Carl Witwer Meeting Closed at approximately 8:00 PM. TAILSPINS Page 2 From the President’s Desk Our next meeting at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds is scheduled for November 1st. As members we are tasked each year with the nomination and election of new officers. This will all happen by the close of our next meeting. We have a number of fine members who have been nominated, and we could get a couple more during the next meeting. Please make plans to attend this important meeting so that we get a good representation of our membership. Our club now has approximately 110 members, something as important as the election of officers should not fall on the 20 to 30 people who attend. Another matter that I want to address is the decision to have a Christmas Dinner this year. Last year we had approximately 10 people show up, going forward if there is little interest we should cancel any plans. However if we have a commitment from members who would like to attend an event, we’ll continue putting something together. One last piece of business that I want to address is the clearing of trees and brush at the far east side of the field. There have been a number of members who have volunteered their time to assist with this project and they have our appreciation; however I would be remiss not to mention the effort turned in by Bob Clark. From the shelter the area doesn’t look that large, but when you walk back to the patch it’s actually quite large. Most of the trees are now down and the brush has been cleared away. There is still a little clean up required, but wow what a difference! The next time you see Bob, give him a pat on the back, he deserves it. I’ll see you at our next meeting November 1st 7:30 Montgomery County Fairgrounds Paul Stimmel President Dayton Wingmasters TAILSPINS Page 3 2012 President’s Fun Fly Looks like Joe is on the campaign trail The stack of pancakes were this tall Paul done a great job as Grill Master TAILSPINS Page 4 2013 Modelrama FEBRUARY 9th 2013 02/09/13—Dayton, OH MIDWEST MODELRAMA…Tri-State’s largest Swap Meet & Auction! 50/50 Drawing and Raffle Prizes! Some suggestions I have already received are, a touch and go and a climb and glide. I also plan on having food and drinks on hand for the entire day and maybe even a chili cook off. If you have any ideas or suggestions please send an Email to glockjerry@aol.com. No date has been set as of yet. Jerry We are always looking for articles to publish in the TAILSPINS Newsletter.
