J
oin popular photographer John Fielder for an evening of stories
and images from his journey down the Yampa River, Tuesday,
April 12, 7–8:15 p.m. The Yampa River of northwest Colorado is
considered the last major free-flowing river in the seven-state
Colorado River Basin. John Fielder photographed his way down
the entire length of the river from the Yampa’s headwaters in the
Flat Tops Wilderness at 11,500 feet to its confluence with the Green
River in Dinosaur National Monument. See stunning images of
tundra wildflowers, eagles and elk, and the tributaries and canyons of the Yampa. Copies of Fielder’s
latest book, Colorado’s Yampa River: Free Flowing and Wild from the Flat Tops to the Green, will
be available for purchase and signing as well as other books by Fielder.

rite What You Don’t Know is the theme of a writing workshop for budding authors presented by fiction writer Mark Stevens, Saturday, April 16, 2–4 p.m. Stevens will explore
what it takes to write in-depth and convincingly outside of your comfort zone. He believes that
writing about something that is not familiar to you can open up a whole new array of possibilities
for plots and the characters who inhabit them. Stevens is the author of the Allison Coil Mystery
Series and recently received the Colorado Book Award for Best Mystery and the Colorado
Author’s League Award for Best Fiction. Prior to the workshop the winners of the Six Word Story
Contest will be announced by Mark Stevens at 2 p.m. in Sophie’s Place.
Cold Cases with Crime Reporter Kirk Mitchell
H
ear about intriguing unsolved Colorado murder cases with veteran Denver Post crime
reporter Kirk Mitchell, Tuesday, April 19, 7–8:30 p.m. Mitchell will give new and insightful
information about several prominent local cases including Harold Henthorn’s conviction for his
second wife’s death from falling over a cliff and investigation into the death of his first wife, the
disappearance of young Dylan Redwine, the unusual circumstances surrounding the murder
of the Bennett family in Aurora, and the case of 9/11 videographer Kurt Sonnenfeld who is
suspected of killing his wife but claims that he is the victim of a government plot to silence him.
Mitchell has been a daily newspaper reporter for more than 25 years.

ee the Academy Award nominated film, Brooklyn, on the library’s big
screen, Saturday, April 30, 2–4 p.m. (Rated PG-13). The story focuses
on Eilis Lacey, a young Irish woman who longs for a better life outside of
her small village. Lured by the promise of America, Eilis departs Ireland
for the shores of New York City. The initial feelings of homesickness
quickly diminish as a fresh romance with an Italian immigrant finds Eilis.
But soon, her new life is disrupted by her past, and Eilis must choose
between two countries and two men. Special Irish and Italian treats will be
available for purchase, benefiting the Littleton Immigrant Resources Center
(LIRC). Donations also will be accepted for LIRC, which serves immigrants on the pathway
to citizenship using volunteer mentors. Before the movie, hear stories of Colorado immigrants and their journey to U.S. Citizenship.
