What’s Next for the GBID: Volunteer
The current GBID term ends December 31, 2016. To continue the GBID services, property owners
within its boundaries (more than 50% by number, owning parcels representing at least two-thirds of
the district’s total assessed value) must sign petitions asking Metro to re-establish the GBID.
When the GBID was organized in 2006, there were only 57 property owners – and now with the
addition of the residential condo owners, there are over 650! To get the required number of petition
signatures, we need GBID property owners as volunteer campaign workers! The petition drive will
begin in August and continue through January 2016 if necessary. We’ll make the petition process
enjoyable for volunteers – with some friendly competition among the various teams! Contact
eperry@nashvilledowntown.com to volunteer – or sign up at the May workshops.
Because You Asked
Q: Do we actually need these services?
A: The current mix of GBID services follows the
guidelines in the 2006 Improvement Plan developed
with property owners. They designated over 50% of
the annual GBID budget for Public Space
Management, including clean teams focusing on
trash and weed removal, pressure washing
sidewalks, removing graffiti and landscaping
programs.
Other
budget
items
include
Communications/Marketing, and some special
projects. The GBID contracts with the Nashville
Downtown Partnership to provide the services under
the direction of the GBID Board.
Q: Doesn’t the city provide these services?
A: The city provides a basic level of services
throughout Metro Nashville and Davidson County
including The Gulch. Because of the density in urban
areas, with increasing numbers of residents,
employees and visitors, daily attention to public
space management is especially important. The
GBID’s focused public space management initiatives
are over and above what the city offers and
important to keep the area clean, safe and attractive.
