Tricia O’Brien President Carol Boone Office Manager 3 Member To Member News HAPPY 35th ANNIVERSARY PLUM GROVE PRINTERS! Plum Grove Printers Inc. celebrates its 35th anniversary in December. On December 1, 1980, Jimmy Carter was the lame duck president, “Lady” by Kenny Rogers was No. 1 on the pop charts, “The Empire Strikes Back” was the top grossing film, and Plum Grove Printers was born. “That was a pretty big day for me,” CEO Peter Lineal remembers, “I got the keys to the building, and my first child was born.” From modest beginnings in a 917-square-foot space on Plum Grove Road (hence the name), Mr. Lineal’s little startup has expanded into the bustling 9,600-square-foot facility of today. The entrepreneur cheerfully recalls Plum Grove’s first job. “We were called ‘quick printers’ back then, printing letterheads, invoices, forms, and more. As a struggling new businessperson, I convinced my fatherin-law that he needed 500 envelopes. They were just one color, but it was my first order.” “We were just a tiny little business with a staff of one and a baby in the back of the shop,” says Mr. Lineal. “My take-home salary was $172 the first year. Sales for year one barely reached $50,000. But we eventually grew into a valued marketing partner to our clients.” The projected sales for 2015 are $4.4 million. The Plum Grove of today offers offset and digital four-color printing, mailing lists and mailing services, wideformat printing, trade show displays, and promotional products “with powerful execution.” Mr. Lineal is proud to point out that three of his employees from the 1980s are still part of the Plum Grove family today, including Kim Doering, president of the company. Founded in Chicagoland in 1980, Plum Grove Printers (http://www.PlumGrovePrinters.com) is a Top 100 business specializing in direct-mail marketing, promotional products, printed marketing materials, signage, and point-of-sale graphics. Plum Grove Printers offers the expertise of 35 years in the industry. Plum Grove is also a leader in eco-friendly printing with wind power, environmentally sustainable papers, and extensive recycling and waste reduction. The State of Illinois recognized Plum Grove with its highest award for environmentally friendly businesses. In 2014, Plum Grove merged with Tradeshows And Displays, adding complete trade show and event marketing to its repertoire. Seven Questions to Ask Yourself before Year's End Did I manage my time well? How can I duplicate my successes? Why were certain projects and initiatives unsuccessful and what did I learn from them? How can I create new opportunities? Did I maintain an acceptable level of work-life balance? Have I developed new skills? Did I work well with my team? 8 IRS IDENTITY PROTECTION TIPS Seven Steps for Making Identity Protection Part of Your Routine The theft of your identity, especially personal information such as your name, Social Security number, address and children’s names, can be traumatic and frustrating. In this online era, it’s important to always be on guard. The IRS has teamed up with state revenue departments and the tax industry to make sure you understand the dangers to your personal and financial data. Taxes. Security. Together. Working in partnership with you, we can make a difference. Here are seven steps you can make part of your routine to protect your tax and financial information: 1. Read your credit card and banking statements carefully and often – watch for even the smallest charge that appears suspicious. (Neither your credit card nor bank – or the IRS – will send you emails asking for sensitive personal and financial information such as asking you to update your account.) 2. Review and respond to all notices and correspondence from the Internal Revenue Service. Warning signs of tax-related identity theft can include IRS notices about tax returns you did not file, income you did not receive or employers you’ve never heard of or where you’ve never worked. 3. Review each of your three credit reports at least once a year. Visit annualcreditreport.com to get your free reports. 4. Review your annual Social Security income statement for excessive income reported. You can sign up for an electronic account atwww.SSA.gov. 5. Read your health insurance statements; look for claims you never filed or care you never received. 6. Shred any documents with personal and financial information. Never toss documents with your personally identifiable information, especially your social security number, in the trash. 7. If you receive any routine federal deposit such as Social Security Administrator or Department of Veterans Affairs benefits, you probably receive those deposits electronically. You can use the same direct deposit process for your federal and state tax refund. IRS direct deposit is safe and secure and places your tax refund directly into the financial account of your choice. To learn additional steps you can take to protect your personal and financial data, visit Taxes. Security. Together. You also can read Publication 4524, Security Awareness for Taxpayers. Each and every taxpayer has a set of fundamental rights they should be aware of when dealing with the IRS. These are your Taxpayer Bill of Rights. Explore your rights and our obligations to protect them on IRS.gov.
