The Sesquicentennial committee
is pleased to announce that our second event in the celebration of our yearlong 150th anniversary celebration is to spend the month of May recognizing our youth. We are excited to share that Confirmation Sunday will take place on Sunday, May 1, the Youth Choir program will take place on Sunday, May 8(Mother’s
Day), and Baccalaureate will take place on Sunday, May
15. We invite you to make attending these services a priority as
we recognize our youth during the year leading up to our sesquicentennial celebration.
Fun Fact:
The Youth Choir program is an integral part of our worship experience.
These youth enhance our own worship and share the message and love of
Christ through a Youth Choir tour that has been a part of the Youth Choir
since 1995. Through the years the Choir has traveled to Chicago, New
York City, Washington D.C., Atlanta, St. Louis, Cincinnati, Louisville,
Little Rock, Oklahoma City, Phoenix, San Antonio, Houston, Galveston,
Nashville, and New Orleans. Did you know that the youth choir at its largest membership had 70 members in December of 2002?
Posters for sale:
Posters of the beautiful artwork of the church or the Sesquicentennial
Celebration are now for sale! The cost is $30 and checks can be made
out to FUMC, for 150th celebration. Call or email the church office
today (marystewart@fumctupelo.com).

Reflecting on the ancient wisdom of the Desert Ammas, we are offered a refreshing
approach in the present.
Our leader, Stephanie Bussey-Spencer Patton completed her diploma in Spiritual Direction at San Francisco Theological Seminary in San Anselmo, California and recently received her Doctor of Ministry Degree from the same institution. She has served almost thirty years as a Presbyterian pastor (PCUSA). She
currently pastors a small congregation in Oakland, TN and has a Spiritual Direction practice at First Presbyterian Church in Memphis, TN. She also teaches Formation for Ministry Classes at Memphis Theological
Seminary (MTS). Stephanie is married to Mike Patton, an attorney at Baker Donelson, and has two grown
children, Mollie and Walker.
There will be time for listening, quiet periods for reflection and response, and opportunity to rest in the
spirit of desert wisdom.
Reserve your spot on the bus - Jennifer Shepherd 662-891-3689 or jen_shepherd@bellsouth.net
Of course you may also drive separately, if you prefer. Event registration can be done online at

LIBRARY NEWS
More new books in the library!
A precious new children’s book, Wilfrid Gordon McDonald Partridge, is one you must
read for you and your child. A small boy tries to discover the meaning of “memory”
so he can restore that of an elderly friend.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
I and my family thank the staff and members of FUMC for the
many expressions of love and attention during my hospital confinement and home recovery.
