ZOOM 5 infos Exhaust Heat Power Generation A NEW SOURCE OF ENERGY The Exhaust Heat Power Generation (EHPG) system converts the heat from exhaust gas into electricity based on the principles of the Rankine cycle – an innovation designed to create cleaner, more efficient vehicles. THE BENEFITS OF EXHAUST HEAT POWER GENERATION* FOR CARS EXHAUST SYSTEM 1 2 Some 30% of the energy in fuel is lost as heat in the exhaust system. To improve vehicle efficiency, Faurecia has developed a solution to use this heat as an additional power source. 2.5 EVAPORATOR The heat from exhaust gas is transferred to a fluid to produce pressurized steam. CO2 EMISSIONS reduced by 55 tons* 40 FUEL SAVINGS representing 40 full tanks/ around 5,283 gallons* *Over the total lifetime of the vehicle Active Wellness™ MAKING THE DRIVE A HEALTHIER EXPERIENCE No matter whether in the city or on a long trip, a driver’s state of mind influences the on-board experience and security. Fatigue and stress can take a toll on the ability to control a vehicle safely. Until now, the auto industry has not yet offered an in-vehicle system to relax and return a driver to a healthy state of mind. Meet Active Wellness,™ the world’s first seating system designed to help drivers reach their destination feeling better than when they began. 1 GATHERING THE DRIVER’S HEALTH INFORMATION Using exclusive, state-of-the-art technology, contactless sensors gather real-time biometric information from occupants to calculate the risk of falling asleep at the wheel or their stress levels. The car seat then intuitively responds to the driver’s needs. 2 ASSESSING THE DRIVER’S NEEDS 3 PROVIDING THE RIGHT RESPONSE An assessment of the driver’s needs is made thanks to the information gathered by the sensors in the seat. FATIGUE CORRECTION To correct fatigue, a specific massage pattern and cooling airflow through the seat’s ventilation system energizes the user. STRESS CORRECTION Sensors can detect increased stress levels from heartbeat and breathing rhythms. Active Wellness™ uses a calming massage and mild heating combination to lower the driver’s anxiety and stress levels. 6 B E I N G FAU R E C I A infos Intuition A BRAND NEW CONNECTED ON-BOARD EXPERIENCE At Faurecia, we think it’s time that vehicles adapt to drivers’ and passengers’ lifestyles instead of the opposite. Though fully autonomous cars are still a ways off, vehicle occupants already want more autonomy and more opportunities to personalize their interior with seamless connectivity to the outside world. This is what drove us to create Intuition, a new demonstrator of innovations enhancing on-board connectivity that will help you envision what the vehicle cabin of the future might be like. SMART SURFACES INVISIBLE SCREENS A decorative aluminum surface forms a tactile dashboard that replaces traditional controls with touch sensitive, integrated switches. Slight vibration and illumination signals action. For seamless integration into the cockpit, we have developed black panel technology. The screen facing the front passenger is perfectly integrated into the instrument panel and remains invisible when not active. HIGH DEFINITION SCREENS Located on the center console, high definition, curved and ultra-thin screens offer excellent image resolution and packaging freedom for ease-of-use. CONVENIENT INTEGRATION OF PERSONAL ELECTRONIC DEVICES INTO VEHICLES For more connectivity, smartphone and tablet screens can be projected onto the center console’s touch screen to give instant access. Wireless charging stations located in the side doors, the glovebox and the center console recharge electronic devices. They use induction technology. AUTOMATICALLY ADAPT TO THE DRIVER’S SITUATION When a vehicle goes into an autonomous mode, Intuition offers more comfort. Drivers can easily make their seat longer in relaxed mode, while the center console slides back so the screen is never out of reach. The screen also pivots towards the user for ease-of-use. TRANSFORMING THE TRIP Urban Liftgate A SMARTER APPROACH TO THE BACK OF VEHICLES Vehicles are evolving and bumpers, liftgates and other parts along with them. We designed Urban Liftgate to offer drivers and passengers a wealth of easy-to-use, aesthetically pleasing and eco-friendly features, all rolled into one very convenient system. It’s smart for passengers, and it’s even smarter for the planet. SMART OPENING KINEMATICS A CLOSER LOOK New kinematics enable the liftgate to slide over the roof and prevents rear deflection. When opened, the tip of the liftgate is 10 inches lower than with conventional kinematic systems, making it an ideal solution for low clearance parking. Further, when a vehicle is parallel parked, the system offers a gain of 7 inches behind the vehicle to open the tailgate. AESTHETIC BRAKE LIGHTS Backlighting effect makes braking lights (e.g.: third brake light) invisible when not activated. LIGHTWEIGHT MATERIALS A polycarbonate rear-window as well as composite materials used for the tailgate, roof and spare wheel tray reduce weight compared to other standard materials. AERODYNAMIC BUMPERS Actuators and motors allow the bumper to change its shape and improve vehicle aerodynamics to reduce air turbulence, for improved fuel economy. DECORATION MADE-TO-MEASURE The paint applied to the vehicle back can be laser engraved with words, pictures or shapes for state-of-the-art car customization. Owners will never lose their vehicles in a parking garage again. SUSTAINABLE SHINE Metallic spray gives the vehicle the polished appearance of chrome without the added weight of the metal. THREE WAYS URBAN LIFTGATE UPGRADES THE BACK OF VEHICLES ADVANCED KINEMATICS Innovative sliding tailgate kinematics make the liftgate more convenient and uses less space than traditional options. ECO-FRIENDLINESS Light-weight materials and better aerodynamics by rear bumper active air flaps result in an improvement in fuel economy. PERSONALIZATION Vehicle owners can customize their vehicle with textured paint effects, laser marking & visible composite. 7 infos 2016 SUPPLIER EXCELLENCE AWARDS HONOR PERFORMANCE, COMMITMENT The year’s most accomplished vendors were honored at the second annual 2016 Faurecia Supplier Excellence Awards during the Detroit auto show.
