Collect of the Day
O God, who before the passion of your only begotten
Son revealed his glory upon the holy mountain: Grant
to us that we, beholding by faith the light of his countenance, may be strengthened to bear our cross, and be
changed into his likeness from glory to glory; through
Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you
and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
First Reading Exodus 34:29-35
Pew Bible, New Testament, p. 63
Psalm 99
1
6 Moses
and Aaron among his priests,
and Samuel among those who call upon his Name, *
they called upon the Lord, and he answered them.
The Lord is King;
let the people tremble; *
he is enthroned upon the cherubim;
let the earth shake.
2
The Lord is great in Zion; *
he is high above all peoples.
3
Let them confess his Name,
which is great and awesome; *
he is the Holy One.
7
He spoke to them out of the pillar of cloud; *
they kept his testimonies and the decree
that he gave them.
[ANT]
8
“O Lord our God, you answered them indeed; *
you were a God who forgave them,
yet punished them for them for their evil deeds.”
9
Proclaim the greatness of the Lord our God
and worship him upon his holy hill; *
for the Lord our God is the Holy One.
[ANT]
4 “O
mighty King, lover of justice,
you have established equity; *
you have executed justice and righteousness in Jacob.”
5
Proclaim the greatness of the Lord our God
and fall down before his footstool; *
he is the Holy One.

Gifts of Love Offering
The Gifts of Love envelopes are in
the Narthex/Foyer of the church today to collect funds in support of programs sponsored by the Diocesan and
National Episcopal Women. There
are four major national church ingathering efforts: The
United Thank Offering (UTO) which provides grants
for a variety of programs and The Church Periodical
Club (CPC) which provides printed and educational material to individuals and organizations. In 2010, ECW activities and the Memorial Scholarship Fund were included
in the Gifts of Love ingathering. Please consider the outreach efforts of these programs and contribute generously.

Volunteer Lay Ministers Needed…
Start Lent Off By Serving Others!
This year on Ash Wednesday, COS will
be joining other churches in an outreach
to the neighborhood by providing “drive
through” ashes from 7:00am to 6:00pm,
giving busy people in the area a chance
to participate in this Lenten tradition
and to learn about the friendly family at
COS! Bishop Mariann Budde has written to the clergy
through the Diocese asking them to take part in this
“Ashes to Go” ministry. Father Harvey and Reverend
Hague will be on hand, but in order to facilitate the day
(including the noonday Ash Wednesday service), they
have asked for volunteers to sign up for 2-hour shifts to
help distribute ashes on that day. Sign-up sheets are
available today, or you may contact Rev. Jane Hague at
jhague@episcopalcos.org with any questions or to let her
know you’d like to help serve. You can read more about
the Ashes to Go movement here: www.ashestogo.org
Where was God when…..???
Tragic events like the Newtown shootings, deadly natural disasters, and the attacks on 9/11, as well as other, more personal times of suffering in individual
lives and families have challenged believers’ understanding for centuries. Come
explore what the season of Lent and the Passion of Christ have to teach us
about these mysteries in this year’s Lenten Study. Led by Robert Harvey.
On behalf of the Fellowship of the Trees, Don Spicer wants to thank everyone involved with the 56th year of this
effort. We had an excellent year, raising $14,610 for the church, the highest total ever! The most we ever raised
before was $14,589 in 2008 so we beat that by $21 – the last sale at the lot this year was a very tiny Douglas Fir
for $10 and a $20 tree stand so that sale pushed us over the top!! None of this could occur without the help of a
large number of folks who pitched in to help set up the tree lot, unload the truck, sell trees, deposit the money,
and clean up the lot. As usual, it was a great group to work with. We had 42 members help out with the effort.
The total raised by the Fellowship of the Trees since 1998 (that is when Don’s record’s start) is now $190,545.
We also want to thank the office staff; particularly Sunny who helped with all of the announcements and along
with Robert and other office volunteers sell a few trees over the course of the month. We couldn’t do all of this
without everyone’s support. We have listed the names of all those who participated this year – our apologies if
we left anyone out or misspelled anyone’s name.

without your support. We hope that you all will come back again next year when we celebrate the 57th year of
Fellowship of the Trees.
The COS Lenten Food Drive for the MANNA FOOD BANK starts Sunday, February 17.
Please start
bringing in non-perishable food for Manna to distribute to the needy and hungry in our area. Through Manna’s
regular distribution program, the Food Bank feeds about 3,300 families each month at fourteen locations.
Manna provides each family with a three-to-five day supply of perishable and shelf-stable food. Manna also
provides food at no charge to 48 Montgomery County soup kitchens, food pantries, group homes, and emergency shelters. Manna’s “Smart
Sacks” program provides a bag of kid-friendly food to over 2,000 elementary school children each week at more than 50 schools.
Here are a few phenomenal statistics about what Manna accomplished in FY 2012:
Households Served via Food For Families Distribution: 40,976 ~ Average Clients Served Per Day: 161
Smart Sacks Distributed to Elementary School Children: 68,278 ~ Pounds of Fresh Produce Donated: 126,762
Pounds of Food Donated by Grocery Stores and Wholesalers: 2,933,694 ~ Total Pounds of Food Distributed: 3,616,250
Pounds of Food Donated by Community Members: 689,955 ~ Number of Volunteer Hours Given by the Community: 50,000
