During seasonal drives, trade show collections, and all year long, toy companies donated brand new playthings worth $16 million in 2012. Our signature program, The Toy Bank, distributed these donated toys to 145 carefully screened children’s charities throughout 2012—many of which have more than one site across the country, providing additional domestic and international reach for a total of more than 1000. Thank you to our logistics partner Kids in Distressed Situations for helping us deliver toys to the children who need them most. Together, we make play possible for foster children, children in military families, kids undergoing cancer treatments, children with special needs, and many others. 6 Boys and Girls Clubs of America Families on 35 US military bases around the globe received toys in appreciation of their sacrifices. Military families stationed across 20 states and 3 countries overseas received brand new toys to ease the pain and stress associated with military life in 2012. Thanks to our donors, we were able to provide $105,000 in grant funding and $1.3M worth of Toy Bank toys to fuel our partnership with BGCA throughout the year. From California to Maryland, and Puerto Rico to Japan, we thanked the families of service men and women in all branches of the military who keep us safe every day. In our third year of national partnership with BGCA, we hosted six on-site toy distributions and shipped Toy Bank toys to dozens of domestic and international US military bases in 2012. “Many of the children experience deployment frequently. Providing toys to these families give children a sense of support and love.” —Grand Forks Air Force Base, ND 7 My Stuff Bags Foundation 109,000 toys from our Toy Bank were lovingly tucked into duffel bags filled with other childhood necessities and distributed to crisis centers across the United States. Many youth are removed from unsafe conditions in the middle of the night, frightened and do not understand what is happening around them. During this stressful time, thousands of children entering the foster care system were given hope upon receiving new TIF-sponsored My Stuff duffels in 2012, each one including a toy they could hold onto and call their own. During our “Do Good Stuff-a-thon,” 160 volunteers from 22 toy companies packed 5,000 of these special duffels for foster children throughout the country. Our national partnership ensured thousands of youth—infants through teens—received the necessities of childhood including brand new toys at the most troubling times of their lives. With $50,000 in grant funding to support this partnership, our financial and product donors ensured young ones received the resources and encouragement needed at critical moments in their lives. Former foster youth who are now thriving adults shared that they still hold onto their My Stuff Duffel that carried them through their darkest moments, a testament to the lasting impact of these gifts. 8 Play Connects Four non-profits were each awarded $10,000 grants to support programs that improve the lives of children in need. Play Connects grants disbursed in 2012 were quickly put to work. The Toy Industry Foundation granted a total of $40,000 in Play Connects awards to bolster the efforts of deserving community-based charities nominated by the Toy Industry Association membership. Infants and toddlers are experiencing creative opportunities to help them learn through play. Young ones have the new shoes and clothing basics they need to empower them to succeed in school. Low-income students are receiving monthly produce bags along with critical nutrition and physical activity lessons. Children with disabilities are thriving with the positive educational, therapeutic, and social effects of developmentally appropriate play, thanks to specialized play sessions and parent training. 2012 Grant Recipients •Florence Fuller Child Development Centers (FL) nominated by The Bridge Direct, Inc. •Community Action Partnership of Orange County (CA) nominated by Bandai America Incorporated •National Lekotek Center (IL) nominated by ThinkFun, Inc. •Shoes and Clothes for Kids (OH) nominated by Good Marketing, Inc. u have o y t a th w o “Kn e in c n e r e f if d a made child with a f o e if l e th aching e t y b s ie it il b disa play.” o t w o h im h 9 for demonstrating your company’s commitment to comforting children in need.
