Route 2: Excitement from Bellecour to Confluence
Are you looking for some unforgettable experiences? Follow your nose and join in
the evening’s excitement on the southern end of the Lyon peninsula! On the
program: discoveries, shows, projections, travel through time and space and
relaxation to the music of the Concert de l’Hostel Dieu.
Some advice before you leave:
For cozy comfort at the Festival of Lights: As you can well imagine, it’s cold in
winter in Lyon, and you’ll often have to stand in place. To cope with possible bad
weather and cover lots of kilometers, forget about being a fashion plate: put on
your earmuffs, parka, mittens and gloves and, above all, trade your high-heels for
a pair of all-terrain boots!
For a Festival of Lights without stress: prefer Sunday, December 7, and Monday,
December 8, for an easier flow, especially if your children are with you on this
excursion.
For a traditional Festival of Lights: If you are a resident of Lyon, put candles in the
windows of your home, your workplace and your school on Monday, December 8,
to perpetuate this Lyon tradition.
Remember that this route may be crowded. If you have young children, avoid taking
them along on Friday and Saturday evenings. During the entire Festival, leave your
stroller at home and choose a baby backpack instead.
Please feel free to pass on this advice to everyone who will be accompanying you on your
exploration.
To reach the point of departure, take Metro Line D/A to the Bellecour stop
Warning: TCL implements extensive safety precautions in this heavily traveled area.
Be sure to follow the directional indications when you exit the A and D subway lines.

Turn right onto Rue de la Charité toward the south and continue on for 100 meters
Turn left onto Rue Sainte-Hélène and continue on for 70 meters

Go along Place Gailleton on the left side and turn to the left at the end of the square onto
Rue de Fleurieu
Turn left onto Rue de la Charité
Turn right onto Rue des Remparts d’Ainay and continue on for 180 meters

If you like, have a look at the lighting of the facade of the 2nd Arrondissement City Hall, which
is just a few steps away!
To do this, continue on Rue des Remparts d’Ainay. When you reach Place Ampère, cross the
square and continue along Rue Bourgelat for 100 meters. Next, turn left onto Rue d’Enghien
and go to No. 2.
To reach the next display on the route, continue on Rue d’Enghien for 25 meters and then turn
left onto Rue Franklin and continue for 160 meters. Turn right onto rue Victor Hugo and
continue straight ahead to Place Carnot.

From November 25 to December 24, you can visit the Christmas Market at Place Carnot
Go along the right side of the square to reach Voûtes sous Perrache (a roadway that
connects Place Carnot to Place des Archives)
Reaching the vaults is not always obvious: go along the right side of Place Carnot
toward the Perrache train station. At the end of the square, turn slightly toward the
right to access the vaults, which are for pedestrians only from December 5 to 8, starting
at 5 p.m. The entrance is located behind the bus shelter

Cross the Perrache vaults for a distance of 170 meters; the display is found in the second
section of the vaults
When you exit the vaults, turn right to reach Place des Archives

Continue for 450 meters along Cours Charlemagne

Turn left on Esplanade François Mitterand before the Hôtel de Région - Montrochet

Enter the Hôtel de Région building and discover the lighting display accompanied by the
Concert de l’Hostel Dieu, each evening from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
When you leave the Hôtel de Région, cross the road

If you’re tired, travel back to the city center on the tramway from the Hôtel de Région Montrochet stop.
If you still have time, go to visit the inaugural lighting of the Musée de la Confluence and
continue your route all the way to the 7th arrondissement by crossing Gallieni bridge.
