Eighty Sixth Year
Grand Knight Joe Parisi’s Message
Contact Joe at: jparisi@flash.net
Dear Brother Knights, Vivat Jesus!
On behalf of your council officers
and myself, Happy Labor Day to
you and your families! It seems
like only yesterday, I was wishing
everyone to enjoy the summer;
Boy, did that go fast!!!
I wish to welcome our new
District Deputy, Ed Strach. If
you see him, please say “Hi” and
welcome him.
There was a lot going on this
summer. On July 11th , we had
the annual boat cruise. We sold
this event out! Over 170 people
attended! The weather was perfect
for cruising and we returned to
the council for pizza. I wish to
recognize both Brothers Joe Kronk
and Roy MacDonald for the
outstanding job they did. Thank
you both. We hope to do this
again next year, watch the paper
for details.
July 17th , we had the George F.
Monaghan Charity Golf Outing
Month of Our Lady of Sorrows
(formerly known as the Malloy
Open). We had 70 golfers that day
and perfect weather. Everyone
had a fun time! We returned back
to the council for a wonderful
dinner provided by Rose Catering
and every golfer received a
parting gift. Enough money was
raised so that we will be giving
Livonia’s Fallen Heroes a check
for $1000.00. If you were unable to
make it this year, next year’s golf
date is July 16, 2015, mark your
calendars now. We will prepare
for next year’s event starting in
January. Watch the paper for
details. To the council Brothers
who did this event, well done!
July 20th, we had the annual
Council Picnic. The picnic began
with mass presided by Father
Robinson of St. Mary’s. The
Donne Gals presented their first
“Living Your Faith” scholarship
award to Kathrin Parisi. Everyone
who came that day enjoyed some
awesome food and games. A
big thank you, to Brother Kevin
Rogers, Brother Greg Knoph and
the softball team for a wonderful
picnic again.

The Donne-Gals is the women’s auxiliary of Monaghan Knights of Columbus. We are a charitable
organization. Our organization gives to various charities throughout the year. One of our charities
is the Monaghan Christmas Basket program. Also, at Christmas, we “adopt” a family in need and
provide them with gifts in order to help them through the holidays. We also have a Scholarship
program for a practicing Catholic woman, 17-23 years of age, who is enrolled or accepted as a full time
student in an undergraduate program. The charities and scholarship are mainly funded by our Euchre
Parties and 50/50 raffles. We meet at Monaghan every 3rd Thursday.
Our first meeting of the 2014-2015 year is Thursday, September 18th at 7:00 PM. We will be
installing our new officers for the year. The elected officers are as follows: Ann LeWalk, President;
Maureen Scanlon, Vice President; Donna MacDonald, Treasurer; Mary Carlington, Recording
Secretary; Jean Carrier, Corresponding Secretary.
We are happy to welcome new members. Please consider joining us!

Looking for a good Family Movie
Around the Council
KING OF DIAMONDS II
When the Game Stands Tall is a film currently in theaters nationwide. It stars Jim
Caviezel and is based on a true story of the incredible winning streak of a Catholic high Every Thursday night! Drawing at 7:30
school football team. It is both an amazing story and one with a strong moral message. PM. Come out and enjoy a hamburger and
Supreme Knight Carl Anderson’s says of this film: “When the Game Stands Tall is a
wonderful film to watch together as a family. It is a story of hope and triumph based on
a winning strategy that is inseparable from solid values and character formation. There
is a lesson for all of us in the deep insights of this film into the importance of keeping
successes and setbacks in the proper perspective - and growing from both.”
Should your plans this weekend include a trip to the movies, When the Game Stands
Tall would be an excellent choice.
Giving Him “The Time of His Life”
“In and out in 30 minutes.” What started out as a routine outpatient operation in 1987, turned into a life and death struggle involving a medical mishap
and blood everywhere. Patrick Distelrath was 20 years old and he and Wendy
were going steady. He went to the doctor’s office for a simple procedure. But
something went wrong. His exterior vena cava was severed by mistake and he
started to bleed, badly. The resulting surgery to save him took 12 hours and
required 10 units of blood, then and there. He was lucky. His type of blood
was available.
Today, Patrick lives in Plymouth, and is married to Wendy. They have 5 wonderful kids, Anne Marie 13, Angela 12, Kimberly 9, Patrick Jr. 7, and Maximilian 4. Patrick enjoys raising his kids, taking the girls to guitar and piano
lessons, family outings, and his involvement in the Knights of Columbus.
Life is good.
Patrick had been an occasional blood donor before his “emergency”. He’s
become a regular donor now, recently passing the 1-gallon mark.
Life sends us challenges every day. We need to work together and help each
other survive, like the 10 donors who helped save Patrick’s life in 1987. Who
will you help save on September 22nd?
