THUNDERWORD
June 2014
OMG…..IT’S JUNE ALREADY!!!!
Can you believe it’s June already? It seems we
were just discussing getting the Thunderbird’s
out of storage and BAM……..it’s June!
We will start the month with our annual “Ice
Cream Social” at The Inside Scoop, on RT 309 in
Coopersburg, PA. If you want dinner, we are
meeting around 6:00pm at the Coopersburg
Dinner, across the street. Then we will go the
Scoop for our meeting. The Club will treat you to
the equivalent of two scoops of ice cream. If you
choose something like my favorite, a banana
split, then you have to pay the difference.
So, is your car ready for the Ford Nationals at
Carlisle? Yep, only a couple weeks away, Friday
June 6th through Sunday, June 8th. ITC is hosting the meet at the event, so if you can, come on
out one of the days. We will be grilling up dogs,
burgers and whatever else you want bring.
Can’t make Carlisle, then join us for our annual
jaunt to Pompton Plains, NJ to support our sister
club at their All Thunderbird Car Show on Saturday, June 14th. We will be meeting in the Best
Western Hotel parking lot off of RT. 22 and 512,
at 8:00am and will depart promptly, as a group,
at 8:30am for the show.
At our meeting, we will start discussing our
upcoming Nazareth Day Car Show. Last year we
where able to raise a significant amount that we
donated to several local charities because we
held a Chinese Auction. Several members provided gift baskets with a value of $25.00 or more
and they were raffled off. We are asking you to
contribute to this auction by providing a basket,
with a minimum value of $25.00 for the event.
Please let Jerry Engle know that you will be
providing a basket. We also ask if you deal with
vendors/suppliers, that you see if they would be
willing to provide some donation items for our
door prizes. If you can help and get some “stuff”,
let Dwayne Behler know, as he handles the coordination of the door prizes.
If you are going to donate a gift basket or items
for door prizes and cannot make the show, we
can collect those items at the Nazareth Day
Planning Picnic, or you can contact me, Vince
Luppino, and I will pick them up.
Thank You for your help, as you are The Lehigh
Valley Thunderbird Club!

A Message from the Board
As you have read up to this point, we have a lot of events scheduled and participation varies event
to event. As your Board, we try and normally do make each event and we see the same group at
them. So, how about you? While we get about 20 members at each event, there are some we do not
see, sometimes for the whole season. How about coming out and joining your fellow club members?
If you need help getting you car out, getting it set up for a show, let one of us know and we will get
together a couple fellow members to help you out. It would be nice to see you, so don’t be shy! Call
any Board Member or Club Officer.
The Nazareth Day Planning Picnic is coming up on Saturday, July 12th. We are planning to meet at
4:00pm at Nazareth Boro Park to discuss the details and afterward, we will cruise to a local drive-in
to watch a movie. We started this tradition years ago and everyone has a great time. So we hope to
see you there and ask you join us for the movie. Let Walt and Sandi Fries know if you are coming.
A Message from the Editors
So, we are working to get the Newsletter back on track and out the last week of the month, as it
normally had been in the past. We appreciate everyone who has switched to receiving the Newsletter by Email! Once the new club website is up, you will actually go there to retrieve the newsletter
and we will be able to provide more timely updates to club activities as well.
Thanks you for you patience!

Here are some pictures from the Hudson Museum Trip. You missed a great time, if you missed this
event. Bernie Thompson took us car by car and provided a very detailed description of each model.
Also, the facility used to store the vehicles is an “Eye-full” too! We had a very good showing of members and everyone in attendance learned a lot about the Hudson Marque! Thanks Bernie!

10 Things you must know about detailing your car
By Mike Spinelli May 22, 2014
1. Never even touch your car without a lubricant such as water, spray wax, waterless wash, or soap.
These lift contaminants from the surface, "so you won't grind soil into the paint and spend the rest of the day
buffing out the scratches," Kosilla says.
2. Try to be methodical and work in this order: wheels, paint, interior, and glass. Otherwise, you'll waste
precious time fumbling around washing and rewashing. Doing the wheels first, before you wet the rest of the
car, prevents water spots from forming on the paint. Wash the glass last in case you smudge the windows
while cleaning the interior.
3. Designate one bucket and mitt for painted areas only, and keep another wash mitt in a separate bucket
for the wheels. Dirty wheels often contain brake dust, which can scratch paint
4. Use a Grit Guard Insert in your bucket to keep soiled mitts clean and prevent them from picking up dirt
that settles at the bottom.
5. Scrub wheels with Wheel Woolies. These brushes are engineered to quickly get into intricate spokes and
lug-nut crevices.
6. On paint always use microfiber towels (not sponges), which are ideal for both washing and drying because of their ability to pick up and release dirt. "Microfiber has replaced the traditional chamois leather,"
Kosilla says. He uses a heavy 300- to 400-gsm (gram-per-square-meter) cloth, which is gentler on paint.
7. You can skip water altogether and clean your car with a waterless wash product. Apply it with a clean
microfiber towel folded into quarters. "Use a scooping motion while applying the least amount of pressure necessary for the cloth to make contact and pick up the dirt," Kosilla says. This will require five to 10 towels and
10 to 20 ounces of waterless wash.
8. For waxing, apply a light-mist spray wax or a hydrophobic drying agent to the wet painted surfaces
and wipe dry with a damp towel. "The microfiber towel will pick up any remaining dirt that was missed during the wash and apply a thin layer of protection during the drying process."
9. Shoot air into tight spots such as mirrors, taillights, and emblems with a portable vacuum blower.
"The point is to release trapped water that will ultimately spill out as you drive away."
10. Use the vacuum's attachments to clean every gap, crevice, and air vent in your car's interior. Now,
get cleaning!

Nazareth Day Car Show
Extra Extra read all about it.
It's the end of May you have about 45 days to get that T-Bird out
get it cleaned up and get registered for Nazareth Days.
Now after doing all that don't forget to come to the Nazareth Days show.
Your Nazareth Days Committee is looking for more
T-Birds to attend this year than ever before.
Now beside getting the car out and getting it cleaned up, get
registered for Nazareth Days. don't forget to make
up a basket for our Chinese Auction. This was one of the big things in last
years show and really allowed us to donate to a worthy
cause one more time. Those of us who belong to this club are very fortunate
to have the great membership base we do,
and you as a member should feel good about helping out someone less
fortunate than you are.
So now beside getting the car out and getting it cleaned up and
registering for the show, and didn't forget to make up a basket for our
Chinese Auction.
When you are doing all this think about is there something that you could
lend a hand with at the Nazareth Day show remember
this is your club you made it what it is, wouldn't you like to keep it that
way.
Since you are getting the car out and getting it cleaned up and
registering for the show, and you are making up a basket for our Chinese
Auction,
then you are helping out. So by the end of the day you probably are a little
tired, but you feel good that you have helped make another Nazareth Day
show come off with out a hitch.
Just think you did all that and maybe you had some fun, so maybe you
would like to join the club in some other activities that we do
like going to a show or a cruise. All Ford Carlisle is coming up, we usually
have a 8 to 10 cars caravan to Pompton Plains NJ for our sister clubs all
T-Bird Show.
There are other things we do through out the year. So why not come out and
join in the activities.
My wife and I joined this club back in the year 2000 about a year
later I joined the BOD ( Board of Directors ) a year or so after that
started to Co-Edit this newsletter.
My wife and I have had lots of fun being with members and going different
places. There were about 70 members when we joined that number has dwindled
if you know any one who has a T-Bird any year, any condition see if you
can't talk to them about joining up.

JUCC Car Show
Another fun and relaxing event! Car count was around 50 vehicles that came, displayed for an hour
or two and then left. Pictures are of vehicles displayed at the time. A “special interest” vehicle was
on display, THE THUNDER SPREADER, designed and restored by Jerry Engle. Even powered be V-8!
