Kendallville Public Library News & Events for January 2014 Inside This Issue... Winter Reading for EVERYONE Beef up your business Experience our new format Winter Reading for Everyone Teen Winter Reading Program: Adult Winter Reading Program: Teens are in for A Flurry of Reading the next couple of months. From January 6 through February 28, teens will be rewarded for reading! It’s easy to participate. Just pick up a bookmark at the library. When you read one book in two weeks, mark it on your bookmark and bring that bookmark to the Kendallville or Limberlost Public Library, or to your school library. For each book you read, you’ll earn a prize. Plus, you’ll be entered to win one of five gift card prize packs. You can even complete some reading challenges to earn extra gift card prize pack entries. Prizes for something you plan to do this winter anyway? Perfect. What could be better than cuddling up on a cold day with a book? Earning prizes for it! The Adult Winter Reading program kicks off on Monday, January 6 and runs through Saturday, March 29. To participate, simply pick up a bookmark each month at the library. For each 25 minutes you read, mark off a snowflake. When you have read all 500 minutes, bring the bookmark to the library to claim your prize. You will also be entered in a grand prize drawing each month. And it gets even better! You can do extra activities each month (as many as you want) to earn more entries in the grand prize drawing! Complete details, including all the prizes, can be found on page 10 of this newsletter. Children’s Winter Reading Program Now through February 28 (Extended!) Be sure to complete your BINGO board (available at the libraries) to win prizes. Plus...make a Library Confession at KPL! It’s our 15th Annual Contest! Here are the basics: Writing contest for 4th, 5th & 6th graders Choose your genre from fiction, non-fiction, graphic novel or poetry Awards banquet featuring a guest author Great prizes up for grabs Details online at www.kendallvillelibrary.org Looking for state tax forms? They are available online now at www.in.gov/dor/4878.htm. Paper forms are also available now at the libraries. However, the amount sent to us is down by 10% this year. If we run out, taxpayers are welcome to print the forms themselves from the Indiana tax website listed above. Or, the library staff can provide them with a printed copy for 10¢ per page. For those who prefer to file their taxes online, Indiana will again offer INfreefile. The benefits to using INfreefile include receiving refunds quickly, filing both federal and state tax returns at no cost assuming certain income criteria are met and using a simple question-and-answer format. To access INfreefile, go to www.freefile.dor.in.gov. Congratulations to Kendallville Public Library volunteers Jeff Killian (top left) & LuReign Brown (far right), who were honored on December 5 as Noble County Community Foundation Givers of Gifts. We truly value all the gifts of time and talent that these two have donated to the library over the years. New from the Kendallville Public Library! If you loved it, this is the perfect book series for you. It is ideal for grades 3-6, but would also make a fantastic family read aloud. If your child is playing Winter Reading BINGO, you may have noticed the square that requests you visit eSebco and read a non-fiction book. eSebco is a fantastic resource for kids of all ages. Alex Rider was a normal British schoolboy until his uncle died in a mysterious car crash. While trying to figure out the truth behind his uncle’s death, Alex is cast into the life of a spy; a life most teens would love to have. Recruited by MI6, Alex is now responsible for taking down the man who really killed his uncle. The first book in a series, Stormbreaker is thrilling and well written.
