Da y m a r k, In c o r p o ra t e d S pr i ng 2 0 1 6 D AYMARK D IGEST A S P E C I A L M E S S AG E F R O M PA T M O Y E R S , C H A I R P E R S O N , DAY M A R K B OA R D O F D I R EC T O R S As we begin the summer season, I am pleased to inform you that some very exciting things are happening at Daymark. In March we staged a very successful Gala, “A Night in Emerald City,” which was attended by over 300 individuals. Along with a silent auction and donations by individuals, we grossed a little over $100,000. A special thank you goes to Lauren Estep and Meghan Moses, who chaired the event. Our Annual Tennis Tournament, an event sponsored by Daymark for over 30 years will be held from June 24 – 26 at the Charleston Tennis Club. The tournament will include a raffle for which several very valuable prizes have been donated. We invite all to come, watch the play, enjoy the finals on Sunday, June 26, and participate in the raffle and have some fun. While we are experiencing success in our volunteer-driven events and while we appreciate the support of our over 1400 donors, we have some very serious financial concerns as we move into the coming months. Because of the reduction of governmental support by approximately $200,000, our staff is working diligently to maintain our current level of service to our young people in the face of this shortfall. One of the ways to help reduce costs is to move the Patchwork program, currently housed at the Lee Street location, to the Homewood house and move the Turning Point program at Homewood to Lee Street. Since some have associated Patchwork with Lee Street, we will endeavor to build the Daymark brand for all of our programs and to keep the Daymark name at the forefront, rather than focusing on individual program names. Perhaps now more than ever in our history, we need to rally around our organization to help relieve the pain of governmental cutbacks. Please consider extra support to Daymark by sending a check or pledge to: Daymark, 1592 Washington Street, East, Suite 2, Charleston, WV 25311. You may also donate on-line at www.daymark.org. We appreciate all that you do to help make the lives of our young people better. Thank you. Vicki Pleasant, Daymark Executive Director and Pat Moyers, Board of Directors Chairperson accept a generous donation from the First Presbyterian Church of Charleston, presented by Ann Patterson. Daymark Digest P age 5 SCENES FROM THE 2016 GALA — A NIGHT IN EMERALD CITY A Night in Emerald City, Daymark Gala 2016, was held on March 19 at Berry Hills Country Club. The evening was filled with fabulous food, a wine pull, an auction, music, and stories. Some special guests, straight from the Emerald City, are pictured below. In loving memory of Ardath Francke, whose vision and compassion made Daymark a place that West Virginia’s children could call home.
