A message from the
Chairman of the Board
Dear Fellow Chamber Members,
We have a wonderful initiative to take advantage of for your business. Visit
Facebook to” like” and follow our Buy Into Bay Area page and invite all your
friends to follow too. We have 283 followers at this time and we want to see
that number explode! The chamber will also post testimonials which are an
excellent way to spread the word about the work you do. I challenge each of
you to post yourself Buying Into the Bay Area. Think of the possibilities! Take
fun selfies at your favorite restaurant, salon, catching a movie, bowling, getting
your taxes done, and the possibilities are endless. Then post on the Buy Into
Bay Area Facebook page. Invite a friend to do the same. We have over thousand
members so if everyone posted and followed we can make a tremendous impact
on highlighting local business at all levels.
Epicurean Evening was a great success. The food was wonderful and the crowd
had a great time. Thank you to Ron Carter Clear Lake Cadillac Hyundai
Presenting Sponsor as well as all of the sponsors, volunteers, committee
members and attendees that make this event great. When you eat out at a
participating restaurant or visit a sponsor tell them thank you for being a part
of Epicurean Evening. I have found many a new culinary hot spot while at Epicurean. If you couldn’t be a part of it
this time be sure and put on your calendar for next year.
Our partner trip to Austin on February 18th was phenomenal. The Clear Lake Area Chamber and Bay Area Houston
Economic Partnership sent a group of over 80 citizens. We made sure our voices were heard with an abundance of
appointments. During a visit they reminded us that we can’t stop with this one visit. Bills will be filled soon and
we must stay vigilant and contact then throughout the session to ask for support. We have some very important
initiatives that will be voted on this session. “Capitol Talk” by Lisa Holbrook in our newsletter is a great and easy
way to stay informed.

Chamber Travels to
Austin
to Advocate for
Area Business
Education
And more
On Wednesday, February 18, more than 80 residents of
the Clear Lake Area traveled to Austin to advocate for their
community with members of the 84th State Legislature.
The trip, co-hosted by the Clear Lake Area Chamber of
Commerce and Bay Area Houston Economic Partnership
was sponsored by Joiner Partnership, Inc - Architects,
AMOCO Federal Credit Union, AT&T, Mills Shirley,
LLP, Texas Citizens Bank and South Shore Harbour
Resort.
The legislative agenda included many of the most
important issues for residents, business owners, employees
and students of the Clear Lake Area: Education and
Workforce Development, Texas Recreational Marine
Industry Job Initiative, Transportation Funding, Ellington
Field Joint Reserve Base, State Franchise Tax, Storm Surge
Protection, Spaceport Development Corporation and
Trust Fund Expansion and Texas Aerospace Scholars &
Space Alliance Technology Outreach Program.
“The Clear Lake Area Chamber of Commerce values
the opportunity to advocate with its members on
the importance of a well-educated community,” said
Government Affairs Division Chairman Lisa Holbrook
with Assistance League of Bay Area. “Bringing business
leaders and educators together to champion our legislative
priorities to our elected officials in the Texas House and
Senate is crucial and directly tied to the vitality of our
economy.”
This is the fourth trip to Austin that the Chamber has
made in partnership with BAHEP, but by themselves
CLACC has gone for more than 20 years. Throughout
that time, a big focus of discussion with legislators has
been education.
“I am amazed at the phenomenal support that businesses
in the Bay Area,” said Education Division Chairman Dr.
Peter Wuenschel with Communities In Schools-Bay Area.
“The trip to Austin is no exception. “We are blessed to
have a business community dedicated to speaking with
our legislators about issues which have an impact on the
education and future livelihood of our children.”
“What a wonderful trip to Austin we had partnering
with BAHEP,” said Chairman of the Board Sharon Proulx
with Hope Village. “Our community is always so much
stronger when we come together with one united voice.
The education team stood strong and let our legislators
know what we value in the Bay Area- our children.”
