Easter A.D. 2011
Dear Faithful and Friends of the Institute of Christ the King,
It is my great joy to wish you all a very blessed and joyful Easter, Feast of the Resurrection of Our
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Every Sunday when we come to church to attend the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass we celebrate in profound
thanksgiving, praise, and adoration the Resurrection of Our Divine Savior. On Holy Thursday Jesus
celebrated for the first time the Sacrifice of the Mass in the presence of His beloved Apostles in the
Cenacle. On Good Friday our High Priest offered Himself up on the Altar of the Cross of Calvary as our
Immaculate Victim to God the Father in order to atone with the price of His Most Precious Blood for the
sins of all men for all time. On Easter Sunday Jesus rose from the dead and gave us the final proof of His
divine mission and His divinity. The bonds of death could not hold Him back Who is the Author of life.
At the celebration of every Mass Jesus is the main priest and celebrant Who acts through His ordained
minister consecrating the bread into His Body and the wine into His Blood, and thus renewing on our altars
in an unbloody manner the Sacrifice of Calvary. Jesus Himself is the principal priest and celebrant at
every Mass that is offered up. Jesus consecrated His Apostles Bishops at the Last Supper and continues
His saving mission through his bishops and priests in the Catholic Church. The sacramentally ordained
Catholic priesthood is an instrument of holiness, truth, and love that Jesus uses to continue His very own
mission on earth to glorify the Father in the Holy Spirit and to save souls until the end of time.
In the name of my Superiors, the Prior General of the Institute of Christ the King, Msgr. Gilles Wach
and his Vicar General Msgr. R. Michael Schmitz, as well as in the name of our priests, seminarians,
oblates, sisters, and candidates in the Institute, I wish you wholeheartedly the rich blessings of the
Risen Christ. Jesus is King forever and leads us in our spiritual battle to give a living testimony of the
truth, love, and beauty of our Holy Catholic Faith against the powers of evil, darkness, and ungodliness in
an ever more secularized world. The world needs Jesus so much. It needs to be sanctified by the Teachings,
Sacraments and the blessings of Holy Mother Church. It needs to be purified from its vices, its religious
indifference and moral relativism. May the light of the Risen Christ shine in you and may you bring to
those around you the true and authentic joy of Easter!
I would like to express my deep gratitude to all our office staff and volunteers, and our many
volunteers at church who have labored hard to prepare for the great celebrations of Holy Week and
the upcoming First Holy Communion of May 1. Holy Family Parish will have First Holy Communion at
the 10:00 a.m. English Mass, and St. Gianna Oratory at the 1:00 p.m. Latin High Mass. Please keep our
children in your prayers who prepare to receive the sacraments of Penance and of the Eucharist for the very
first time in their lives!
It is my joy to announce that Canon Raphael Ueda, priest of the Institute of Christ the King, will visit with
us during Easter Week. Canon Ueda is from Kobe, Japan and spent Holy Week 2009 as a deacon with us in
Tucson. Abbé Edward Ablang, who spent this past year with us as part of his seminary formation, has
been sent to the Institute’s Apostolate in Oakland, California in order to help Canon Jean-Marie Moreau
during the celebration of Holy Week and they both send you their best wishes for a Happy Easter.
Yours sincerely in Christ the Risen King,
Canon Richard von Menshengen,
Parish Administrator and Rector
Pasqua A.D. 2011
TRADITIONAL EASTER BLESSING OF FOOD
After the 8:00 pm Easter Vigil, after the 8:30 am Low Mass & 1:00pm High Mass on
Easter Sunday
The Easter blessings of food owe their origin to the fact that particular foods, especially meat and milk products,
including eggs, were forbidden in the Middle Ages during the Lenten fast and abstinence. When the feast of Easter
brought the rigorous fast to an end, and these foods were again allowed at table, the people showed their joy and
gratitude by first taking the food to church for a blessing.
Eggs: May the grace of Thy blessing, we beseech Thee, O Lord, + come upon these eggs, that they may become a
wholesome food for Thy faithful, who gratefully receive them in honor of the Resurrection of our Lord Jesus
Christ, who liveth and reigneth unto endless ages. Amen.
Bread: Holy Lord and Father, almighty everlasting God, be pleased to bless + this bread, imparting to it Thy
hallowed favor from on high. May it be for all who eat of it a healthful food for body and soul, as well as a safeguard against every disease and all assaults of the enemy. We ask this of our Lord Jesus Christ, Thy Son, the
Bread of life who came down from heaven and gives life and salvation to the world; who lives and reigns with
Thee, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, forever and ever. Amen.
All foods: Lord, bless + this new produce and grant that those who eat of it in praise of Thy holy Name may be
nourished in body and soul; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

St. Gianna Beretta
Molla,
pray for us!
Novena to the Divine Mercy of Jesus Christ
The Novena may be prayed any time, but Jesus asked that it especially be prayed beginning on Good Friday and ending the day before Low
Sunday (what is now also known as Divine Mercy Sunday -- the Sunday after Easter).
Fourth Day:
Today bring to Me THE PAGANS AND THOSE WHO DO NOT YET KNOW
ME. I was thinking also of them during My bitter Passion, and their future
zeal comforted My Heart. Immerse them in the ocean of My mercy.
Most Compassionate Jesus, Thou art the Light of the whole world. Receive
into the abode of Thy Most Compassionate Heart the souls of pagans and of
those who as yet do not know Thee. Let the rays of Thy grace enlighten them Divine Mercy Shrine in Krakow, Poland.
that they, too, together with us, may extol Thy wonderful mercy; and do not let
them escape from the abode which is Thy Most Compassionate Heart.
Eternal Father, turn Thy merciful gaze upon the souls of pagans and of those who as yet do not know Thee*, but who are
enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Draw them to the light of the
Gospel. These souls do not know what great happiness it is to love Thee. Grant that they, too, may extol the generosity of
Thy mercy for endless ages. Amen.
Recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy
Fifth Day:
Today bring to me THE SOULS OF HERETICS AND SCHISMATICS, and immerse them in the ocean of My mercy. During
My bitter Passion they tore at My Body and Heart, that is, My Church. As they return to unity with the Church, My wounds
heal and in this way they alleviate My Passion.
Most Merciful Jesus, Goodness Itself, Thou dost not refuse light to those who seek it of Thee. Receive into the abode of
Thy Most Compassionate Heart the souls of heretics and schismatics. Draw them by Thy light into the unity of the Church,
and do not let them escape from the abode of Thy Most Compassionate Heart; but bring it about that they, too, come to
adore the generosity of Thy mercy.
Eternal Father, turn Thy merciful gaze upon the souls of heretics and schismatics**, who have squandered Thy blessings
and misused Thy graces by obstinately persisting in their errors. Do not look upon their errors, but upon the love of Thine
own Son and upon His bitter Passion, which He underwent for their sake, since they, too, are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. Bring it about that they also may glorify Thy great mercy for endless ages. Amen.
Recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy
** These were the original words of Our Lord Jesus Christ to Sister Faustina.
Sixth Day:
Today bring to me THE MEEK AND HUMBLE SOULS AND THE SOULS OF LITTLE CHILDREN, and immerse them in My
mercy. These souls most closely resemble My Heart. They strengthened Me during My bitter agony. I saw them as earthly
Angels, who will keep vigil at My altars. I pour out upon them whole torrents of grace. Only the humble soul is capable of
receiving My grace. I favor humble souls with My confidence.
Most Merciful Jesus, Thou thyself hast said, "Learn from Me for I am meek and humble of heart." Receive into the abode of
Thy Most Compassionate Heart all meek and humble souls and the souls of little
children. These souls send all heaven
into ecstasy, and they are the heavenly Father's favorites. They are a sweet-smelling bouquet before the throne of God;
God Himself takes delight in their fragrance. These souls have a permanent abode in Thy Most Compassionate Heart, O
Jesus, and they unceasingly sing out a hymn of love and mercy.
Eternal Father, turn Thy merciful gaze upon meek and humble souls, and upon the souls of little children, who are enfolded
in the abode which is the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. These souls bear the closest resemblance to Thy Son.
Their fragrance rises from the earth and reaches Thy very throne. Father of mercy and of all goodness, I beg Thee, by the
love Thou bearest these souls and by the delight Thou takest in them: bless the whole world, that all souls together may
sing out the praises of Thy mercy for endless ages. Amen.
Recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy
Seventh Day:
Today bring to me THE SOULS WHO ESPECIALLY VENERATE AND GLORIFY MY MERCY, and immerse them in My
mercy. These souls sorrowed most over my Passion and entered most deeply into My spirit. They are living images of My
Compassionate Heart. These souls will shine with a special brightness in the next life. Not one of them will go into the fire
of hell. I shall particularly defend each one of them at the hour of death.
Most Merciful Jesus, whose Heart is Love Itself, receive into the abode of Thy Most Compassionate Heart the souls of
those who particularly extol and venerate the greatness of Thy mercy. These souls are mighty with the very power of God
Himself. In the midst of all afflictions and adversities they go forward, confident of Thy mercy. These souls are united to
Jesus and carry all mankind on their shoulders. These souls will not be judged severely, but Thy mercy will embrace them
as they depart from this life.
Eternal Father, turn Thy merciful gaze upon the souls who glorify and venerate Thy greatest attribute, that of Thy fathomless mercy, and who are enclosed in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. These souls are a living Gospel; their
hands are full of deeds of mercy, and their spirit, overflowing with joy, sings a canticle of mercy to Thee, O Most High! I
beg Thee O God: Show them Thy mercy according to the hope and trust they have placed in Thee. Let there be accomplished in them the promise of Jesus, who said to them, I Myself will defend as My own glory, during their lifetime, and
especially at the hour of their death, those souls who will venerate My fathomless mercy. Amen.
Recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy
Eighth Day:
Today bring to me THE SOULS WHO ARE DETAINED IN PURGATORY, and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy.
Let the torrents of My Blood cool down their scorching flames. All these souls are greatly loved by Me. They are making
retribution to My justice. It is in your power to bring them relief. Draw all the indulgences from the treasury of My Church
and offer them on their behalf. Oh, if you only knew the torments they suffer, you would continually offer for them the alms
of the spirit and pay off their debt to My justice.
Most Merciful Jesus, Thou Thyself hast said that Thou desirest mercy; so I bring into the abode of Thy Most Compassionate Heart the souls in Purgatory, souls who are very dear to Thee, and yet, who must make retribution to Thy justice.
May the streams of Blood and Water which gushed forth from Thy Heart put out the flames of the purifying fire, so that, in
that place, too, the power of Thy mercy may be praised.
Eternal Father, turn Thy merciful gaze upon the souls suffering in Purgatory, who are enfolded in the Most Compassionate Heart of Jesus. I beg Thee, by the sorrowful Passion of Jesus Thy Son, and by all the bitterness, with which His most
sacred Soul was flooded, manifest Thy mercy to the souls who are under Thy just scrutiny. Look upon them in no other
way than through the Wounds of Jesus, Thy dearly beloved Son; for we firmly believe that there is no limit to Thy goodness and compassion. Amen.
Recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy
Ninth Day:
Today bring to me SOULS WHO HAVE BECOME LUKEWARM, and immerse them in the abyss of My mercy. These
souls wound My Heart most painfully. My soul suffered the most dreadful loathing in the Garden of Olives because of
lukewarm souls. They were the reason I cried out: “Father, take this cup away from Me, if it be Thy will.” For them the last
hope of salvation is to run to My mercy.
Most compassionate Jesus, Thou art Compassion Itself. I bring lukewarm souls into the abode of Thy Most Compassionate Heart. In this fire of Thy pure love let these tepid souls, who, like corpses, filled Thee with such deep loathing, be once
again set aflame. O Most Compassionate Jesus, exercise the omnipotence of Thy mercy and draw them into the very
ardor of Thy love; and bestow upon them the gift of holy love, for nothing is beyond Thy power.
Eternal Father, turn Thy merciful gaze upon lukewarm souls, who are nonetheless enfolded in the Most Compassionate
Heart of Jesus. Father of Mercy, I beg Thee by the bitter Passion of Thy Son and by His three-hour agony on the Cross:
Let them, too, glorify the abyss of Thy mercy. Amen.
Recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy
Optional Concluding Prayer
Eternal God, in whom mercy is endless and the treasury of compassion inexhaustible, look kindly upon us and increase
Thy mercy in us, that in difficult moments we might not despair nor become despondent, but with great confidence submit
ourselves to Thy holy will, which is Love and Mercy itself.
(From the Diary of St. Faustina Kowalska)

adeudada a Tu justicia.
Amen.
Recite la coronilla de la Divina Misericordia.
