Ombres Portées
scented collection
Born and bred in the North of France, Frédéric Bourre and
Sébastien Duchateau have always been attached to their region
and have nurtured a special fondness for their hometown .
Therefore, in 2012, they decided to
create a line of fragrance that would pay tribute to this
French heritage.
They created a collection of scented candles, home fragrances
and multi-use fragrance. This palette was elaborated, designed
and developed by the best French craftsmen.
«Indulge in a unique olfactory experience and discover our
city, our region and our heritage… Let us give you a taste of
a little part of France.»

Some history, our inspiration… Ombres Portées was funded in 2006,
with a desire to re-create the « avant-garde » spirit and timeless
elegance of the perfume parlours of times past.
Located in Rue Masurel, the place was formerly a tailor’s workshop and
is now offering a choice of carefully selected perfume houses.
Ombres Portées has now become a confidential hideaway, a timeless
place where everyone can find what they like most.

Some history, our inspiration… The Sebastopol square in Lille was
meant to house a linen marketplace, the foundations were built but in
1903, the Grand Theater Lequeux burnt down.
The mayor then asked the architect Léonce Hainez to build a temporary
theater in 4 months. He met the challenge. The building of the
foundations started in July 1903 and the place was inaugurated the
same year on November, 30th.
The spectators discovered an impressive hall with 2000 seats, a painted
ceiling four majestic chandeliers and a eye-levelled orchestra pit.

le muguet
Being both a symbol of fight, and a lucky charm, the bellflowers
of this beautiful herbaceous plant celebrate the arrival of
spring.
Lily of the Valley
Some history, our inspiration… The tradition of the Lily of the Valley
on May, 1 dates back to the Renaissance. Charles IX having given it
as a lucky charm to his friends in 1561. The Lily of the Valley is the
ideal flower to celebrate spring as it blossoms at the beginning of May.
In France, the « Fête du travail » on May 1, was established as early as
1890.
The workers used to march with a dog rose flower on their jacket. On
may 1, 1891, in Fourmies, the celebration turned into a riot and the
police opened fire on the workers. Since that event, May 1 has been a
symbol of the working-class action. The dog rose has gradually been
replaced by Charles IX’s Lily of the Valley .

of the market hall of Wazemmes , used to stand the « Guinguette de
la Nouvelle Aventure » which reputation had spread well beyond our
region.
At that time, the market gardeners used to sell their products in the
adjoining garden. It marked the beginning of a long tradition. In the
1860’s, the architect Baltard was appointed by the city to build a food
hall similar to the hall in Paris.
The covered market then counted 232 colourful stalls. Today, that
architectural building is without doubt a place to see.

Some history, our inspiration… In 1837, Alphonse Jean Baptiste Daloz,
notary, purchased the estate of Le Touquet consisting of dunes at the
mouth of the river Canche. He planted pine trees and other essences
and that is how this newly forested estate became an ideal seaside resort
at the end of the century. The chief editor of « Le Figaro » (Hyppolite
de Villemessant) who was one of the notary’s friends, gave the place the
attractive name of Paris Plage.
Today, the hundred-year-old forest of Le Touquet is rich in exceptional
wildlife and encircles the whole city up to Avenue St Jean.

other hand is pointing at the column where the mayor’s response to the
attackers can be seen.
On the inauguration day, the people named the statue « La Déesse »,
following the bookseller Emile Durieux’s inscription :
« Who is this proud-looking goddess at the top of this monument ? This
is the city of Lille, swearing the oath to defeat or perish »

contest was launched for a new house on the same location. Louis Marie
Cordonnier was appointed to build it and the works began in 1907 . His
inspiration came from Charles Garnier and the Italian theatres. In 1914,
the Germans occupied the place, the works were completed. « German

took place at Christmas in 1915. It was refurbished at the end of the war

Some history, our inspiration… The Lille cathedral was a wild dream
of the rich Lille inhabitants in the 19th century. They wanted to build
the most beautiful, the most sumptuous, the most perfect cathedral in
the neo-Gothic style of the 18th century, in order to house the antique
statue of Notre Dame de la Treille, kindly patron saint of Lille since
its origin. The first stone was blessed on July, 1st 1854. The building
was not completed before 1999, notably its arched frontage, superb
combination of the translucence of marble and the rose window by
Kijno, reminiscent of the Gothic style but still letting in a maximum
of light.
