Let’s Dig ~ Underground or Sub-surface Mining
All ages seem to be enjoy digging
holes. Curiosity leads us to look for
the unknown. Whether it is sand, soil
or rock we make holes.
At left, the mine entrance (adit) that
starts in at ground level appears to
be a different rock that what you
see in the tailings.

for
resources we all need: Zinc, Coal,
Copper, Galena, Graphite, Mercury,
Gold, Chromite, Tungsten, Molybdenum, rare earths, Silver, and more.

Mining is required to obtain any material that cannot be grown through agricultural processes, or created artificially in a laboratory or factory. Mining in a wider sense includes
extraction of any non-renewable resource such as petroleum, natural gas, or even water.
As these open pit mines go deeper and deeper there is a beauty in their color and pattern!

In the World !
What you are looking at is an enormous
diamond mine in Mirna, Siberia. It measures
525 m deep and 1.25 km in diameter, making it
the biggest - (man-made) hole in the world.
The suction from the hole is so powerful that
helicopters flying over it have crashed.
