“Our key achievement is being able to innovate and
nurture a new generation of creative thinkers, problem
solvers and innovative entrepreneurs that are able to
generate ideas and solutions that would bring
significant impact to themselves and the society that
they live in, whilst simultaneously discover brilliant
ideas that can be developed into commercially
viable products able to compete in the local and
global market. The first step towards achieving
this aspiration begins with education in schools”
Activation of the School Club Innovation Toolkit

Innovation &
Entrepreneurship
Programs
School Club Innovation Toolkit consist a set of guidelines, activities and materials for
teachers to conduct innovative hands-on, experiential activities in existing school
clubs to ignite creative and innovative thinking via STEM (Science, Technology,
Engineering and Mathematics).
The YIM Ideation program aims to build human capital on innovation and
entrepreneurship via various thinking methodologies, turning ideas into venture. It is
a program to develop new ideas that are social driven, ultimately leading to the
realization of market-driven innovations.
Kids Invent! activities educate, excite, engage and entertain young people and to
ignite kids' natural curiosity, challenging them to create, problems solve and apply
their ideas to invent things they can keep and share with others. Designed to teach
kids about science, math, invention, entrepreneurship, innovation and creativity
through engagement with adult-led hands-on activities, Kids Invent! are based on
sound scientific principles. All activities are developed by Dr. Ed Sobey, a scientist,
world-renown educator and author of 22 books on kids and invention.
Collaboration with
State Education
Department (JPN)
The support accorded by the respective State Education
Department serves as pillars that has enable the activation of
the YIM School Club Innovation Toolkit program in a seamless
and effective manner. The collaboration is made possible
through approvals accorded by the respective Directors of the
State Education Department in which with their consent, the
first Teacher Empowerment Program was officially commenced

We Empower
Teachers & Students with
Innovative Thinking
Empowered to Transform
The School Club Innovation Toolkit 2014 - School Programme initiated its first activation process
through a Train the Trainer session known as the “Teacher Empowerment Programme (TEP)” .
Teacher Empowerment Programme (TEP)” serves as a platform that introduces teachers & 1CATS
volunteers to the YIM Ideation module, it has multiple purpose in which the training programme main
objective is to:
It create awareness, introduce and equipped teachers with pertinent key knowledge and hands-on
experience in conducting the YIM Ideation module.
42
School Club
Innovation
Toolkit in Schools
The program progresses with the Activation workshop in 42 Schools.
Teachers who attended the Teacher Empowerment Program (TEP) are
required to conduct a YIM Ideation Workshop in their respective school
with minimum participation of 100 students from each school. The students
are divided into groups and each group will have to sketch their idea
complete with a brief explanation. Each group receives the opportunity to
present their ideas that would enable them to express their idea, enhance
their confident level and indirectly become more creative by activating an
innovative mind-set.
In addition, we also conducted the Workshop directly in schools, in
which trainers from AIIE were appointed to train selected students via a
program collaboration with UMW. This 3-day workshop trained
students on the application of various creative thinking methodologies
that would render them with pertinent skills enabling students to
identify problems and creatively generate ideas that would solve or
overcome these problems. Students were also accorded the opportunity
to pitch their ideas and improve their skills as prospective entrepreneurs
via a public presentation session during the UMW YIM Ideation Grand
Final Competition.

Building Human Capital for
Sustainable Innovation via
Public Private Partnership (PPP)
The participation and partnership of the private sector is
central to realising the country’s vision. Smart public-private
partnership becomes more essential to further spur
innovation, productivity, value creation and competitiveness.
Dato’ Sri Dr. Noorul Ainur Mohd Nur,
Secretary General of Ministry of Science,Technology and Innovation
YIM’s role now shifted from being a “provider” to
becoming the “facilitator” or “enabler” of innovation
programmes for the private sector
Muhammad Aziph Dato’ Mustapha,
Chief Executive Officer of Yayasan Inovasi Malaysia
Being an agency under the government,YIM recognizes the importance of PPP, and therefore outlined PPP as one of its key
areas in “Building Human Capital for Sustainable Innovation” - despite the fact that the initial PPP agenda was more relevant
to infrastructure development. YIM works with private sectors such as ExxonMobil, Genting Malaysia and UMW
Corporation Sdn Bhd via smart partnership to enable “experiential learning” for students in Malaysia. It is conducted as part
of a corporate social responsibility programme facilitated by YIM for private companies to reach out to students in public
schools.
These after school activities, mind-blowing, hands-on experiential programmes such as Kids Invent!, School Club Innovation
Toolkit and YIM Ideation were developed via smart partnership with American Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship
(AIIE) and Lyles Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship in California State University, Fresno to stimulate students’
innovative & creative nature, ultimately leading to the creation of commercially viable prototypes.
