In the Altstadt (historical center) there are beautiful old churches and squares. The city boasts a vibrant cultural scene, with many theaters, museums and the famous Munich Opera House. On a sunny day there are people sitting outside in the many well-kept public parks, such as the English Gardens or the Olympiapark. In addition to having several worldclass museums, it can lay claim to having the richest cultural, gastronomic and retail life in southern Germany, including the famous Hofbräuhaus and other beer halls. Munich’s surroundings include the charming lakes of Starnberg and Chiemsee as well as the famous Neuschwanstein Castle, and Germany’s highest summit mountain, the Zugspitze.
