The First Congregational Church
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy
kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in
heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us
our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the
kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.

“Fear Not!”
A humorous yet profound presentation for worship that looks at
things that go bump in the night that have frightened people
down through the ages. Why do phantoms, monsters, and other
creatures of the night cause us fear?
Do they represent our real fears?
And what does Jesus say about it all?
"Fear Not!"

Drama - “Fear Not!”
Music for “Fear Not!”
(Order of Appearance)
Toccata and Fugue in D minor, composed by Johann Sebastian Bach
sometime between 1703 and 1707. It is Bach's most famous organ
piece, now commonly associated with horror movies because of its use
in the 1962 version of The Phantom of the Opera. Before that, it did not
have that connotation.
The Ghost And Mr. Chicken was composed for the Don Knotts film
of the same title by Vic Mizzy, an American composer for television
and movies whose best known works are the themes to the 1960s
television shows Green Acres and The Addams Family. His score for
The Ghost… possessed a sound which became billed as "The Don
Knotts Sound".
Doctor Who Theme Music, created in 1963, was one of the first
electronic music signature tunes for television, and after five decades
remains one of the most instantly recognisable. The original 1963
recording is widely regarded as a significant and innovative piece of
electronic music, recorded well before the availability of commercial
synthesisers.
Main Theme From Escape From The Planet Of The Apes (1971) is
a fun, quirky piece by acclaimed film score composer Jerry Goldsmith
who also composed the chillingly innovative (but much less fun) avantgarde score for the original Planet of the Apes film.
The Munsters's Theme was composed by composer/arranger Jack
Marshall. The surf music styled piece was nominated for a Grammy
Award in 1965 and is widely regarded as one of the greatest television
theme songs of all time.
Love Potion No. 9 is a song written in 1959 by Jerry Leiber and Mike
Stoller. It was originally performed by The Clovers who took it to #23
on the US charts that year. The "British Invasion" band The Searchers
scored a U.S. #3 hit in 1965.
Funeral March of a Marionette by Charles Gounod. Originally a small
piano piece of light-hearted musical grotesquerie, it was set for
orchestra in 1879. The piece gained international fame in the 1950s
when it was selected as the sardonic theme music by Alfred Hitchcock
for his television show Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
"King Tut" is a novelty song performed by Steve Martin and the Toot
Uncommons (actually members of the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band). It was
released as a single in 1978 and reached number 17 on the Billboard
Hot 100 chart. "King Tut" paid homage to Egyptian pharaoh
Tutankhamun and the sensational Treasures of Tutankhamun traveling
exhibit that toured seven United States cities from 1976 to 1979. The
exhibit attracted approximately eight million visitors.
Swan Lake was composed 1875–1876 by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky for
the famous ballet fashioned from Russian folk tales. It tells the story of
a princess turned into a swan by an evil sorcerer's curse. Many people
recognize it as the theme music used in a number of Universal Studio’s
popular 1930’s horror films including Dracula, and The Mummy.

Pastor Ray has been asked to provide occasional pulpit supply at First
CRC while they are without a minister. Their previous minister, Rev
Jim Kuiper has moved to California and is serving a church there.
Because they have an evening Sunday service they approached Pastor
Ray if he would on occasion avail his services when they could not find
anyone else to lead the evening service. In case you were wondering.
Deacons Fund - This fund has been created by the Board of Deacons
to provide “emergency help” to people connected with Congo. The
fund has been carefully used to provide financial aid to people who find
themselves in a tight spot. Two matters: One, if you are in such a
situation let Pastor Ray know. Secondly, the fund could use some
additional contributions from those who can.
Got a rock? Garden Committee might like to have it. The eastern rock
in Memorial Garden has a plaque with name plates and there are few
spaces remaining. The western rock in the Garden is not suitable for
mounting a plaque. The Garden committee is searching for a
replacement. If you have a rock or know where one is with a 20" x 14"
flat side, please notify Georgia P or Mary B.
Women’s Fellowship invites the women and friends of the church to
a Bible study on the following Thursday evenings October 22 and 29,
November 5 and 12. We will meet at 7:00 pm. in the lounge. Beth
Hooker will lead us in an hour to an hour and a half session as we see
how the Bible relates to our every day lives. Come for fellowship and
to listen, learn, and enjoy the journey into the Good Book! If you need
a ride, call Becky (924-6069).
SCRIP is available at the door way and in Fellowship Hall - stop by
and see what is available.
