John Wayne Weekend
September 5th and 6th
Resident, Walt Nelson will be
hosting a movie marathon of some
of our favorite movies. There will
be four movies per day running at
9:30 am 12:30pm
2:45pm and 6:00pm
on both days.
If you are a fan of the duke, be sure to join in on the fun.
We will be announcing John Wayne trivia and token
and other prizes will be available for residents with a
right answer (sorry you can not win more than one
trivia a day) Popcorn will be available in the afternoon.
We are happy to announce that
October 2nd is set aside for the facility’s
Annual Octoberfest Celebration
and Pig Roast
We hope to ramp it up a bit this year and have
some fun events going on throughout the day.
We have tons of fabulous ideas but are still
working on the details of the day’s activities.
Just be here in the afternoon on October 2nd,
Live Music at 4 pm
Dinner will be served at 5pm
Both Dining Rooms
You must RSVP to the
facility anytime after
September 8th and before Sept 28th, with the
amount of people who will be eating and what
resident you are invited for to 875-6671
What are we celebrating? The contributions and
achievements of the 155 million men and women
who are in the U.S. workforce.
In the late 1800s the average American worked
12-hour days and seven-day weeks to squeeze out a
basic living. Children as young as 5-6 years old
worked in factories and mines.
The first U.S. Labor Day was celebrated on
Tuesday, September 5, 1882, in New York City,
planned by the Central Labor Union. The Labor
Day parade of about 10,000 workers took unpaid
leave and marched from City Hall past Union
Square uptown to Elm Park for a concert, speeches,
and a picnic
Traditionally people did not wear white or
seersucker clothes after Labor Day as it
unofficially marked the end of summer.

August Riddle Solution: Congrats to Blanche Novak(vhal)
Four jolly men sat down to play, they played all night until the break of day.
They played for cash and not for fun, with a separate score for every one.
When it came time to square accounts, they all made quite fair amounts.
Not one lost and all gained. ANSWER: They are paid musicians!
Riddle Me This….
MONTHLY RIDDLE RULES:
The first person to turn in the correct
answer to the publisher (Stacy) wins a
great prize! Once you win, you are
ineligible for six months to allow for
everyone to get a chance. DT Aides and
our publisher (front office), do not
qualify for the riddle as they see the
riddle prior to publication and have an
unfair advantage. Aww…Sorry

Favorite Facts that are False
Don’t Eat and Swim
This doesn’t increase the risk
of cramps; alcohol is the
biggest risk increaser. But a
full stomach will make you
short of breath.
Oil Stops Stuck Pasta
Nope; it's only make it greasy.
Stirring prevents sticking.
Three Wise Men
Nowhere in the Bible does it
specify that there were three.
Water Rotation
A flushed toilet does not rotate
the other way in the Southern
Hemisphere.
Only 10% of the Brain Is
Used
The proportion on the brain
“firing” at any one time is task
dependant, but ultimately,
every region is used almost
every day.
Missing-Persons Reports
Police don’t require a 24-hour
waiting period before
accepting a missing-persons
report.
7 Years to Digest Gum
The chewy base of gum is
indigestible and passes straight
through. The remainder is
absorbed.
Sugar = Hyperactivity
Studies disprove this. Poor or
rowdy behaviors still occur in
children with sugar free diets.

Just A Phase?
The moon is a natural symbol of change,
and its shape-sifting comes in phases.
As it grows from invisibility (a new
moon), it is waxing; when between half
and full, it is called gibbous (literally,
“humpbacked”). As it shrinks again, it
is waning; and when it approaches a
sliver of a fingernail in appearance, it
is called a crescent.
