The college has been given the University Grants Commission (UGC) recognition under section 12B and 2(f ), and is also granted autonomy status by the UGC in June 2009. Kodaikanal Christian College was assessed and accredited by NAAC with a High B. These courses are designed to impart extra skills to each student so that they will become more competitive in the job market. STUDENTS SPOTLIGHT 11 | PARADISE ACADEMY Kodaikanal Christian College & Concordia College, New York, USA Kodaikanal Christian College has signed an academic MoU with Concordia College, NY. Through this venture students will have the opportunity to study for the BBA, BSW or BA English Degree for the first two years at KCC and finish their program at Concordia College, NY (CCNY). Concordia College, NY will confer the degree after the completion of the program. In order to participate in the transfer program, students must meet the following requirements and conditions: 1. KCC students must complete at least two years of full-time academic work at KCC 2. KCC students must earn an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) or the equivalent at KCC 3. KCC students must take the TOEFL exam (Test of English as a Foreign Language) 4. KCC does not Guarantee for the student Visa to USA Throughout the process, the CCNY-India Representative Office will guide and support students of KCC in aspects of educational loans, Visa process, pre-departure services, etc. They will also continue to be the point-of-contact for KCC and parents to interact and understand the students’ statuses while they are in New York. On reaching New York, CCNY will ensure post-landing services. Scholarship Information: All KCC students opting for the Concordia College Degree Program will receive a USD $10,000 scholarship towards their tuition fee at Concordia College, NewYork, USA. TRANSFER PROGRAMME | 12 KODAIKANAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE 2TWO PATTERN Autonomous Course Pattern Evaluation & Part I: Language, Part II: English, Part III: Core, Allied & Elective Courses Part IV: Foundation & Non Major Elective Courses , Part V: Extension Courses 2.1 Choice Based Credit System - Kodaikanal Christian College has opted for the Choice Based Credit System for students admitted into the UG and PG courses. It is applicable to all degree courses. The objectives of the credit system are: - to provide mobility and flexibility for students within and outside the department - to provide broad based education - to enable students to learn at their own pace - to provide students scope to acquire extra credits - to impart to students more job oriented skills - to make every course multi disciplinary in approach 2.2 Evaluation - The maximum score for a given subject will be 100 marks. The total marks are divided into two sections: Continuous Assessment (CA) (weighed at 40 marks) and Final Examination (weighed at 60 marks). The CA will comprise of two sub-sections: CAE*1 and CAE*2 and two Monthly Assignments. The pattern is same for both UG and PG programs. The grades will be announced within 10 days of each assessment by the Office of the Controller of Examinations. *CAE- Continuous Assessment Examination 2.3 Continuous Assessment - Forty (40) marks for the CA will be distributed through two (2) written examinations 10 marks each and two (2) monthly assignments 10 marks each for components that include but are not limited to quizzes, snap tests, group discussion, listening comprehension, reading comprehension, problem solving, map reading, panel discussion, field visit, paragraph / essay writing, open book test, library record, viva-voce, writing composition and case study. 13 | PATTERN AND EVALUTION KODAIKANAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE 2.4 Written Examination - Three series of organized written tests CAE-I, CAE-II and Final Examination, are conducted in each semester, as indicated in the calendar. A student must secure a minimum of 50% for UG program, 55% for PG program in the Final Examination for passing the examinations. 2.5 Attendance - Attendance is mandatory in the College. A student must obtain 80% of attendance in each subject in order to appear for the final examination. If a student does not fulfill the basic attendance requirement, he / she will have to retake the subject whenever it is offered again in another semester. For more information regarding attendance rules and regulations, please read the Attendance Section in the latter part of the handbook. 2.6 Academic Probation - All students are expected to appear for all components of the continuous assessment. If a student is found being negligent with the continuous assessment as decided by the subject teacher and department head, the student will be placed on academic probation leading to disciplinary action as decided by the management. This will include additional assignments, ineligibility to participate in cocurricular activities, denial of leave and the like. 2.7 Arrears - If a students does not meet the basic pass requirement for a subject, he/she can reappear for the final examination of the equivalent paper when the college offers it next. If a student does not clear the paper within four attempts, he must re-sit for the class when the subject is next available. 2.8 Grade Appeal - All students have the opportunity to appeal for a reevaluation of their final examination. Any student who wishes to do so must approach the Office of the Controller of Exams and request the appeal, for a fee as determined by the Management ,within 48 hours of declaration of results. Points to Remember For the academic year 2014-2015, students are expected to appear for all components of the continuous assessment and final examination. In order to pass the subject, a student must secure a minimum of 50% for both CA and Final Examination, with a minimum of 50% for the Final Examination. If a combined total (CA + Final) of 50% along with the Final Examination minimum mark of 50% is not achieved, a student will be allowed to rewrite the final examination for up to 4 semesters. The passing minimum for the PG programs is 55%.All students must clear any doubts regarding continuous assessment and final examination with the Office of the Controller of Exams before starting their semester. PATTERN AND EVALUTION | 14 KODAIKANAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE College Programmes 3.1 Saturday Co-curricular Extra Curricular Activities (SCEA) 3.2 Music The college has been designated as an official center for Trinity College of Music, London, UK. A state of the art music room and examination center has been built on the campus..Examiners from London, UK visit KCCto assess the candidates. Classes are offered for all students to enhance their musical skills. For more information, please contact the Music Director. 3.3 National Service Scheme The National Service Scheme provides opportunities for students and faculty to work together on different projects, which include social work, literacy, relief work, participation in environmental campaigns, and tribal education among others. 3.4 Tribal Work The College, in association with NSS, adopts a village every year and takes the initiative in organising such projects as medical camp, AIDS awareness camp, as well as coordinating construction of roads and community halls. NOTE: Additional Credits will be awarded for the above College programmes. 15 | COLLEGE PROGRAMMES The College is a member of the All India Association of Christian Higher Education. 3.6 Language Lab & Soft Skill Development KCC aims to make sure every student is equipped with adequate communication and language skills the global job market demands. In order to develop such soft skills, the College has adopted various initiatives. Since the official campus language is English, all students are compelled to speak only in English while on campus. To assist each student, KCC has established a language lab where students will receive communication training in English. In addition, all first-year students are required to take one Public Speaking course during their first academic year. During their final year, all students must present a seminar before the student body on the topic of their choice (pending approval from the Seminar Committee). Comprised of KCC faculty, the Seminar Committee will advise and assist students with schedules, guidelines, and other such specifics regarding the seminar. & For the benefit of the students, extra curricular activities are organised for during Saturdays. I am sure the learning of KCC will remain within me throughout my life.” STUDENTS SPOTLIGHT A.I.A.C.H.E. - LANGUAGE LAB | 16 KODAIKANAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE 4 FOUR Facilities KCC is committed to provide cutting-edge equipment and infrastructure needed for the development of the students across all disciplines. The college offers 24/7 High Speed Wi-Fi (Wireless Internet) throughout the entire campus, as well as Interactive Classrooms fitted with LCD Projectors, Computer Lab with High Speed Internet Connection. 4.1.1 Working Hours The Computer Labs are open to students on all working days from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm (Monday to Friday) and 9.30 am to 1pm on Saturdays. The labs will be closed on Sundays and other holidays. 4.2 Library The KCC library offers a remarkable supply of resource in the form of books, journals, reputed magazines, as well as Internet database to all students and faculty. The amount and variety of resources continues to grow each year according to the demands of the various fields of study offered at KCC. In addition, the KCC Library provides the perfect environment for students committed to study with amenities such as capabilities for laptop connections, additional computers for accessing the World Wide Web, and a librarian for assistance 4.2.1 Working Hours The KCC library is open on all working days from 9 am to 5 pm (Monday to Friday) and 9 am to 2 pm (Saturday). The library will be closed on Sundays and other holidays. During Final Examination Reading Days, the library will be open for extended hours. 17 | FACILITIES 4.3 Internet (KCCnet) 4.3.1 E-mail KCC will provide all Students with an e-mail address for official purposes only. In order to stay informed about important KCC notifications, students are recommended to check their email at least twice a day. Students found using their e-mail address for illegal activities will face disciplinary action. 4.3.2 High Speed Wi-fi The college internet is powered by Blue Lotus. All students will have access to the high-speed Wi5 (wireless) Internet. Students must use the Internet for college work only, i.e. assignment submission, project research, library usage, etc. Any student found violating the Internet usage agreement will forfeit his/her right to have Internet privileges. 4.3.3 my KCC KCC students will have the use of an integrated database system that allows them access to check their grades, attendance and bursar payments online. All students will receive a login ID and password to do so. Students must adhere to the my KCC usage policy in order to have continued use of the system. Facilities Facilities 4.1 Information Technology KODAIKANAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE 4.4 Sports Physical Education is an important part of any student's college experience. KCC provides a range of sport facilities, and a Physical Education Director to assist in all sports activities. The college boasts of having the highest altitude playground in Asia, called Mount Adoni, which is laid out with a 400-metre running track. KCC also has a racquet / squash ball court, a basketball court, table tennis facilities and a workout / health gym. FACILITIES | 18 KODAIKANAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE 4.5 Housing & Hostels Separate male and female hostel facilities are provided for all students. All Hostels are located on campus with fully furnished amenities and a spectacular scenic view. Various hostel models are available for the students based on their year of study. All rooms are equipped with furniture, toilet facilities and Wi-Fi (wirelessI Internet) connection. (All Hostlers must use transportation provided by KCC during their specified outings.) For rules and regulations of the Hostels, please refer section 8.1 5FIVE KODAIKANAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE Student Activities 5.1Student Life An office headed by a Coordinator will be provided for all student based college activities. The SL Coordinator will be the first point of contact for all student activities, academic & non-academic, like mentoring, club activities, SCEA, student requisitions for Bonafide, attendance, certificates, etc. 5.2 Student Clubs 4.6 Transportation Students will have the opportunity of joining a plethora of departmental clubs and social clubs on campus. KCC provides bus facilities to students and faculty staying in Kodaikanal town. Students can also use the bus facilities to go to town during the specified times with the permission from the Student Life Coordinator and their respective Warden. A designated club hour is created for students to have time after college hours to participate in various activities on campus. 4.7 Mess & Canteen Hygienic vegetarian food is provided for all students and faculty in the College mess Hall. Thrice a week, non vegetarian food will be provided. In addition to the Mess menu, a fully equipped canteen on campus offers students varied dishes for purchase. *Additional Dishes can be purchased from the Mess with prior order. 4.8 Office Hours The College Administrative Office hours will be from 9am to 5pm (Monday to Friday) and 9am to 1pm on Saturdays. Students may visit faculty during the faculty office hours listed in their course outline. 4.9 Additional Facilities on Campus 1.Print Centre 2.Canteen | Cafe 19 | FACILITIES Students can get a list of clubs on campus through the KodaiChristian Administrative Service (KAS) representatives. Students also have the opportunity of participating in departmental club activities. 5.3 Office of Spiritual Life (OSL) Not only does KCC focus on the academic growth of an individual, but the College also places great importance on an individual’s spiritual growth. Through a dedicated Office of Spiritual Life, under the guidance of a Chaplain, KCC provides opportunities for students to engage in spiritual life activities. Through daily devotionals, campus prayers, weekday worship services, hostel prayers, counseling and a Chapel service on Sundays, the OSL makes sure the spiritual needs of students and faculty are met. 5.4 Alumni Association KCC realizes that in the past 20 years, hundreds of its alumni have been placed in organizations all over the world. In order to stand tall in the present and future, the KCC Alumni Association is connecting with former students through various social networking means. Violations will attract disciplinary action, even leading to dismissal. 7.1 RAGGING The College is comprised of multiple committees to manage and coordinate events that take place throughout the academic year. These committees include the following: Task Force Managers (Management Committee) Discipline Committee Anti Ragging Committee Graduation Day Committee Sports Day Committee Seminar Committee Cultural Committee According the Act No 7, 1997, of the Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Ragging Act, ragging in an educational institution in the State of Tamil Nadu, is prohibited. Ragging is defined as doing any act which causes or is likely to cause physical or psychological harm or raise apprehension or fear, shame or embarrassment to a student in an educational institution and includes (but is not limited to) the following: teasing, abusing or playing practical jokes on or causing hurt to such student or asking the student to do any act or perform something which such student will not in the ordinary course willingly do. Defaulters in this regard will face serious consequences / severe punishment as decided by the law. 7.2 EXAMINATION 1. All the candidates must occupy their assigned seats 15 minutes before the commencement of the examination. Candidates should write the register number, as exactly given in the hall ticket, in the appropriate place in the answer script. The digits are to be written legibly without over-writing. 3. Borrowing materials such as pen, pencil, eraser, scale, calculator, etc., are strictly prohibited in the examination hall. Candidates should leave the hall only after getting permission from the invigilator. 16. Candidates are not allowed to leave the examination hall during the last 10 minutes of the examination. 6. Candidates are not allowed to bring digital diary and cell phones to the hall. 7. Candidates must produce their hall ticket & identity card for examination, by the invigilators when required. 17. Any detection of malpractice by the candidates will be reported to the COE., and the student is likely to be debarred from future examination. 18. Candidates are not allowed to sleep in the examination hall. 8. Candidates are not permitted to turn back while writing the examination. 9. Candidates are not permitted to leave the hall during the time of examination. 10. Candidates are not allowed to change the position of the tables or ch airs from the place, which are kept in the examination hall. 11. Candidates should not wear cap, jerkins and multi-pocketed pants. 12. Candidates are not allowed to keep their note books, texts, jerkins etc., near the entrance of the hall. 13. Candidates are instructed to hand over the excess answer sheets to the invigilators. 14. Candidates are not allowed to chew gums, chocolates etc., in the examination hall. 23 | RULES & REGULATIONS 19. Other KCC rules and regulations are also applicable during exams. Note: Students are expected to appear for all the scheduled Semester Exams. Any student who is absent for any exam, without the permission of the Principal, will be barred from appearing for that subject till course completion. If for any valid reason a student is unable to attend an exam, he or she should request permission to the Principal, through the course teacher and the Head of the Department. WITH REGARD TO GENERAL CONDUCT 4. Candidates are not permitted to take any written papers or materials to the examination hall. KODAIKANAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE RULES & REGULATIONS | 24 KODAIKANAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE 1. Student behavior will be marked by courtesy, dignity and respect for fellow students, professors, and elders for the duration of their time at KCC. 11.Ragging is strictly prohibited, as per the Supreme Court Orders across India. Those indulging in ragging will face disciplinary action and will be handed over to the police for legal proceedings in the court of law. 2. Students must dress modestly as befitting an atmosphere of work and study. 12. Any malpractice during Examination will be reported to the Controller of Examinations for stringent action. . 3. On special occasions all students will wear prescribed uniforms. 13. KCC students may discuss and be involved in intellectual and cultural pursuits. Emotional involvement between KCC ladies and gentlemen, however, is strongly discouraged. Anyone found emotionally involved, within campus or within the town, will invite strict disciplinary proceedings. 4. Students shall behave in a dignified manner in public and off campus. 5. Each student will be given an identity card. As a safety measure, ID cards should be prominently exhibited both within the campus and in public when on duty. Students that do not adhere to this regulation will attract due punishment. 6. KCC has a zero-tolerance policy regarding violence of any kind. 7. Tardiness for class is not acceptable. Latecomers may not enter the classroom without the permission and approval of the faculty-incharge. 8. The cleanliness and safety of KCC building and its p ro p e r t y i s t h e responsibility of every student. Disfigurement and /or vandalism of any part of the campus will result in swift disciplinary action. Students must dispose off waste materials in dustbins and other designated areas only. Damage to vessels and property of any kind provided by KCC will be treated as a serious offence, and students will be held responsible. 9. Students are prohibited from organizing or attending meetings in the college, distributing notices or handbills or collecting money for any purpose without the permission of the Principal. 10.Students will not address any authority in a collective petition. Such combined action is considered subversive of good order. KCC students will have the opportunity to make their requests, petitions, suggestion and appeals known to management through proper channels such as assigned mentors. 25 | RULES & REGULATIONS 14. Smoking, consuming alcohol, or being under the influence of drugs of any sort on campus, inside the hostels, or elsewhere in Kodaikanal is strictly prohibited. 15. The college authorities will not be responsible for misconduct or criminal offence committed outside the college. It is especially important that each student knows his / her responsibility to behave in a fitting manner at all times. 16. Cell phone usage is not permitted during college hours (9 am to 4.30 pm) or hostel silent hours. Violation will lead to forfeiture of the instrument. 17. Unauthorized photography on campus is considered a serious offence and will lead to severe disciplinary action. 18. Without a valid out-pass, student found outside the perimeter of the college will face severe disciplinary action. 19. According to severity of the offence, KCC retains the right to remove temporarily or permanently from the role any student that remains persistently insubordinate, habitually irregular in attendance, and /or repeatedly mischievous in word or act. 20. Foreign students must adhere to the rules and regulations imposed by local, State and the Central Government authorities. As per the current rule, all foreign students must submit their passports to the college, which can be collected back after their tenure. Student absences will not be accepted without leave sanctioned in advance by the Principal. If a student is absent for unforeseen reasons, he or she must submit a leave letter countersigned by his/her parent, or guardian. In addition to prescribed leave forms as specified by the KCC office and hostels, all applicable recommendations should be submitted to the Principal for approval. 2. For lady students, in order to acquire permission to travel home or off campus (unless on outings specified by KCC), their parent /guardian must call the Warden / College Office from the registered phone number that the said parent / guardian has provided previously on record. 3. Medical leave will be granted on production of medical certificate from the college doctor or issued by the physician authorised by the college. Any medical certificate obtained without the endorsement of the college doctor, without the knowledge of the HOD, will be rejected. No medical leave will be approved on reopening days, after any holidays and compulsory attendance days. Sick leave more than a day requires Medical Certificate by a registered medical practitioner.. 4. Students will not be permitted to appear for the final examinations if he or she has not put in minimum attendance requirement in all courses of study. If a student appeals based on unavoidable circumstances, however the Principal will still have the final say in all cases. 5. The following are the rules and regulations regarding attendance: a. A minimum attendance of 80% is required in each subject to be eligible to appear for the final examination. b. An attendance status between 75% and 79% in a subject would require the following to be eligible to appear for the final examination. i One day work at a Social organization. ii.Two assignments to be successfully completed in the concerned subject. c. An attendance status between 65% and 74% in a subject would make a student ineligible to appear for the final examination. However, the student may appear for that paper as an arrear when the same paper is offered in the next year. d. An attendance status between 60% and 64% in a subject would require the student to redo the semester after the completion of the program (ie. after 3 years in case of UG courses and after 2 years in case of PG courses). Redoing the semester, in this case, does not require attending 27 | RULES & REGULATIONS classes. However, all required assignments are to be submitted online. CAE 1 and CAE 2 exams should be taken at the college to be eligible to take the final exam. The fee to be paid per semester will be 25% of the annual tuition fee. e. An attendance status below 60% would require redoing the semester after the completion of the program (ie. after 3 years in case of UG courses and after 2 years in case of PG courses). Redoing the semester, in this case, require attending classes at the college and also taking all required assessments throughout the semester. The entire tuition and semester fee is to be paid. f. Absence on any of the Compulsory attendance days will result in the deduction of 5% attendance in each subject. g. Attendance for College Assembly is mandatory. Students not present will loose 2% attendance in all subjects. h. Attendance for College Seminar is also mandatory. Students absent for college seminar will loose 1% attendance in all subjects. I. Students found speaking in any language other than English will loose 1% attendance in all subjects along with a contribution of Rs.500/towards an NGO 6. If a student fails to meet the minimum requirement of attendance per paper, he/she will have to re-register for the subject like a fresh student. 7. No student shall be exempted from tests, seminars and assignments. 8. Irregular attendance will entail dismissal from the college. 7.5 Compulsory Attendance 1. Attendance to morning Assembly is Compulsory. 2. On the reopening days after a semester break or after any sequential holidays declared by the college. 3. Last working day prior to any sequential holidays. 4. Final Examinations, CAE Exams, Certificates & Diploma Exams. 5. Independence Day, Republic Day, Gandhi Jayanthi, College Day, Hostel Day, Sports Day, or any other day declared by the College. RULES & REGULATIONS | 28 KODAIKANAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE 7.6 Library 7.6.1Conditions for Issue of Books Before borrowing a book, it is the responsibility of the student to ensure that the book is in good condition. If any damage is noticed, the student should bring it to the attention of the librarian at the time of borrowing. Failing to do so will result in the student taking responsibility for any defects. Periodicals, Journals, and Dictionaries will not be lent out. 7.6.2 General Rules 1. Users of the Library are not allowed to bring their personal copies of books or notebooks inside the Library. They are permitted to carry only loose sheets of paper. 2. Non-KCC students or faculty are not permitted to use the library unless approved by Principal. In addition, research scholars and students of other colleges /universities will be allowed to use the library with the special permission of the Principal. 3. Silence shall be strictly observed in the Library 4. Unless they undergo the correct check out policies, books, journals etc, cannot be taken out of the library even for a short while. 5. All students and staff entering the Library shall enter their names, date and time of entry in the register kept at the entrance. While leaving they are required to disclose their time of exit in the records. 7.6.3 Lending Books Student who desire to borrow books must adhere to the following rules: 1. Students are entitled to borrow two books at a time for a period of seven days. 2. Failure to return the books on time by either student or faculty will entail a fine of Rs. 2 per book per day up to a maximum of 5 days beyond which a heavy penalty will be imposed. 3. Upon return, the Librarian will examine the books. Removal of papers, diagrams, disfiguring books, writing or scribbling on pages, etc., will e nt a i l p ay m e nt o f t h e co s t o f t h e b o o k s a s we l l a s replacement of the damaged book in the library. 4. Reference books, periodicals and newspapers, should not be removed from the library on any account. 5. Books that can be borrowed can be reserved for use. When returned by a user, if the book has been reserved by another user, the latter is given preference for issue of the book. 29 | RULES & REGULATIONS KODAIKANAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE 6 . Books may be renewed only on one occasion sequentially. 7. The decision of the Principal on all matters of lending shall be final. 7.6.4 Loss Of Books Loss of library books should be immediately reported to the librarians. Any student/staff who loses borrowed books must replace them in original within four weeks of notice. The decision of the Chairman/Principal regarding imposition of penalties with regard to loss of books is final. Collective penalties may be imposed on students of specific departments in case of missing books. 7.7 Games 1. As the academic schedule is heavy, sports and games and athletics may be practiced without affecting routine work. Mountain trekking and other physical exercises will be organized from time to time by the Physical Director. Trekking at least once a semester is compulsory. 2. Outdoor events will be planned by the Physical Director in consultation with the Principal and sub-wardens on administrative details such as supply of food and medical aid. Hostel Regulations 8 EIGHT 8.1(A) Men's Hostel 1. All resident students should behave in a befitting manner in their public and private behaviour. 2. The college reserves the right to withdraw residential accommodation for any student at any time without assigning any reason. 3. Resident students shall keep regular timings. Residents are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of hostel property and surrounding areas. Any breakages, losses and damages will be charged to the concerned student. 8. KCC does not collect Hostel Security Deposits for students. The College will, however, assess and charge students the electrical charges every semester based on total student usage. 9. All hostel rooms will be furnished with a cot. Having the provision of other items such as mattress/pillow/blankets, woolen clothing, etc, will remain the responsibility of the resident students. 10.Residents are responsible for cleanliness of their rooms & bathrooms. 11.Female Relatives are not permitted to enter the Men’s Hostel, but can meet their wards at the Recreation Room with due permission of the Principal. 12.Visitors / Guest meals may be arranged in the hostel on payment of guest charges after due notice of their arrival, at least 48 hours in advance. No guest can stay overnight in any hostel. 13.No student shall stay back any time in the hostel on working days during class hours without prior intimation to the Warden. 14.When leaving the campus, Out passes signed by the warden are required for students. Students must submit out passes at the gate, and enter their names with the Security upon leaving and re-entering the campus. 15.When Students go out of town, they must comply with proper Leave Regulation s and Procedures listed in the handbook (Refer7.4.1) 31 | HOSTEL REGULATIONS 1. Female residents must sign the register provided upon leaving and reentering the hostel. 15. Students going out of town on Saturday / Sunday should ger prior permission from the Principal and should return before 7.30 pm on the day of return. 16. Once a student has been granted permission to leave the campus, she must call the warden upon arrival at her destination. 17. During off campus outings, female students must use KCC buses only. 8.2 Mess 1. Entry into the kitchen is strictly prohibited. 2. No private cooking in the hostel rooms or in the hostel premises is permitted. 3. All students are required to have modest attire for the duration of their time in the Mess Hall. 4. In cases of illness, students can request a fellow student to bring them mess food to their rooms in their personal Tiffin carriers with prior permission of the Warden. 5. Utensils, furniture or any other items shall not be moved out of the dining hall. 6. Wastage of food or water is strictly prohibited. If a student is found wasting food or water, he / she will attract disciplinary action. 7. Mess timings must be followed at all times. Students will not be permitted to enter the mess hall before or after the mess timings. 8. Conservation methods can be observed by following such simple practices, as ensuring that all taps are tightly closed after use as well as switching off all electrical fittings upon leaving the rooms. 33 | HOSTEL REGULATIONS 9 NINE KAS (KodaiChristian Administrative Service) The college has adopted an innovative method for electing student Leaders. KAS is a team of Student Leaders including a President, Secretary, Academic Affairs, Cultural Affairs & Sports Affairs. The programme entitled KAS (KodaiChristian Administrative Service) functions under a student body. Students who are interested in being a part of KAS will undergo the KAS examination, which constitutes the following: *Written test *Stress Interview *Preliminary debate *Final debate *Election The final selection of KAS officials is subject to Management approval. 9.1 Code Of Conduct for KAS 1. The members of K.A.S. shall co-operate fully with the Principal, and the staff of the college in promoting intellectual and cultural activities among the students. 2. Problems and /or issues that arise in the college or hostel, if any, will be resolved by representation and negotiation. Resorting to any other method will not be tolerated. 3. Under no circumstances will K.A.S members consider it a part of their duty to represent to the authorities on matters, which do not fall under the purview of K.A.S ,such as instructions from the University or Government etc. CODE OF CONDUCT FOR KAS KODAIKANAL CHRISTIAN COLLEGE KODAICHRISTIAN ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICE | 34 4. The members of K.A.S. may make their representations to the Principal only on matters pertaining to the general interest of the students and not on individual cases. 5. The members of K.A.S. will not interfere directly or indirectly in matters involving discipline and action thereon, which are the responsibilities of the Principal. 6. The members of K.A.S. will not indulge in any kind of fund raising campaigns except with the specific approval of the Principal. 7. The members of K.A.S. will not invite any outsiders to the college for meetings and functions except with the consent of the Principal. 8. The members of K.A.S. will not call for any kind of meeting in college or hostel without the consent of the Principal. Fees 10 TEN All payments are final, and fees, once paid will not be refunded. Payments must be made by draft payable at Kodaikanal in the name of the Principal. Fees are subject to revision from time to time without notice. Fees must be paid in full at the beginning of each semester as per the dates mentioned in the Academic Calendar. Discontinuance during the middle of a course of study will entail payments of full tuition , hostel and special fees for the remainder of the course. Details of fees given for the purpose of obtaining Bank Loans will not bind the final fee structure that is subject to change. Both students and parents should be aware of this aspect in advance. Delayed Fee payment(part/full) will attract heavy penalty, which will not be negotiated.
