I hope everyone is well and guess what - winter is gone! At least here in Oklahoma I think it is, we had 90 degree temps here in Broken Arrow (early May) with 100 degree in western part of Oklahoma! That’s our crazy weather for you. Paul is waiting on me once again so I am making this short. Take care every one and let’s get those trucks out and show them off!! David Bailey, GTC Prez. proud owner of this ’57 GMC truck I have the Monday morning blas, can’t seem to get started on anything. Even being retired I have those days! Anyway, winter is gone, and the POCI convention is looming upon us real soon! Car shows going on everywhere around almost every weekend. According to Ron, our treasurer, we keep adding members to the chapter awesome news for sure! I appreciate each and every one who has contributed to this chapter! Thanks to Paul and Ron for their hard work in the chapter doing the newsletter and website and keeping up with the finances! Membership Dues If your dues are due, we have enclosed a renewal form in this issue for your convenience. As I have said before if you attend a car show get some pictures and write a line or two and send on to Paul to share with the rest of us in the chapter. It would be awesome to have a group of GMC trucks at the 2014 convention in Wichita! I’m not sure if mine is going to make it but I am sure there are other trucks ready to go and show. I was driving a 1969 Chevy Suburban retired telephone repair vehicle. I ended up staying 3 months. While there, an old pick-up caught my eye at a used car lot. I checked it out, a 1956 GMC 100 SB, pontiac V8, 3-on-the-tree, for $595. I was able to make a deal by trading the Chevy, plus they gave me $300, enough cash to make it back to NH. I used the truck for 10 yrs in my work, then parked it in a barn for 10 years, waiting for the day I would have the time and money to restore it. I spent many hours for the next 2 winters working on it. It now has a new 350-300 hp with a Muncie 4 speed. All parts and colors are original to the year except engine, tranny, and tires and wheels. I still have the 316 Pontiac in storage. My 1st Brand New Pick-up... 2006 GMC Sierra 5.3-4 speed auto, 8’ regular cab, 4x4. It’s my work truck now, just turned 50,000 miles. I waited for the 2006’s to come out because I wanted my trucks to be 50 years apart. My 1st 2 Ton Truck....In Nov. 2010 I was able to buy a 1957 GMC 350 L.C.F. dump truck. It has the 270 six,4 speed and 2 speed rear end. I had my eye on this truck for a few years which was sitting on a hill in a guy’s yard. It took multiple tries to convince him to sell it to me. It’s in real good shape with little rust and only 33,000 miles that seem to be right. Pedals, seat, and steering wheel are hardly worn. So far I’ve removed the dump body, sandblasted and painted wheels, added 6 new tires. My plans are to build it into a car hauler. Page 7 This last story is only 1/2 GMC related!.... It’s about a 1983 Crown Vic LTDS Interceptor on a 1977 GMC frame....I purchased the original police cruiser as a parts car back in 1986 fom the Meredith NH police department. It was considered totaled because someone had smashed all windows, mirrors and lights with a hammer. At the time, new glass costs more than the car was worth. The town and police chief knew I would never put it on the road which is why they didn’t bother to de-mark it. The car sat out in the woods for 25 years with no glass in it. In the winter of 2011 we mounted it to a 1977 GMC 1/2 ton 4x4 350 auto. Because the car is now an antique, it can be put on the road with antique license plates but the blue lights can’t be operable. I trailer it from place to place, the local police dept loves it and borrows it now and then for it’s DARE program. The car has all original markings and has never been painted. Blue lights were donated from another department and because car is not registered, the blue lights DO work!
