+ Pennsylvania Catholic Campus Ministry Association + November 2nd-4th 2015 @ Malvern Retreat Center + RE G INF ISTRAT O RM IO ATI N ON on P AG E8 30 Years of Empowered by the Spirit PCCMA is pleased to announce this year’s theme for our retreat conference will celebrate 30 years of Catholic Campus Ministry’s guiding document: Empowered by the Spirit! + empowered: delegate, equip, liberate, commission As we serve young adults concerned with the varied relationships they encounter in social, romantic, academic, and spiritual environments, we must be prepared to explain the connection between these relationships and their spiritual development while being able to aid them in their search for Christ’s truth and offer them welcome in the Church. At the same time, we ourselves are called to “Come aside…and rest a while.” This year’s conference retreat will offer engaging conversation, prayer, roundtables, featured presenters, and our keynote speaker, Father Jim Bacik, who aided in creating Empowered by the Spirit. Save the date, November 2-4, 2015 and join us at the Malvern Retreat Center in Malvern, PA for a memorable, reflective, reinvigorating, and educational conference for your entire campus ministry staff. 2 1 2 by the Spirit + new this year: CALL FOR PROPOSALS The PCCMA committee encourages innovative 3. Lecture Discussion session proposals that explore one or more of the Lecture Discussions are 45 minutes in length and feature six aspects of Empowered by the Spirit: Forming a maximum of 2 speakers. The speaker should focus on the Faith Community, Appropriating the Faith, a specific topic and field questions at the conclusion of Forming the Christian Conscience, Educating for their presentation. Slideshows and visual aids are Justice, Facilitating Personal Development, and appropriate media for these presentations. Speakers Developing Leaders for the Future. Sub-themes should allow at least 15 minutes for questions and include Inter-Personal Relationships, Faith-Building discussion at the conclusion of their presentation and and Prayer, and Service. have several questions prepared for participants to SESSION FORMAT There are three types of sessions for which proposals may be submitted: 1. Panel Discussions: Panels are 60 minutes long and may include a maximum of 3 presenters. Please plan a minimum of 30 minutes of interactive dialogue with session attendees. The most successful sessions are those that exhibit the spirit of genuine and collegial discussion and exchange of ideas. 2. Facilitated Roundtables: encourage greater connection and understanding of the given topic. Facilitators are requested to submit discussion outcomes in writing or via email to PCCMAConference@gmail.com to share with all conference participants at the conclusion of the gathering. GUIDELINES FOR SUBMITTING A PROPOSAL In a word document, email the following information to: PCCMAConference@gmail.com by August 10, 2015. Bacik is a widely-regarded theologian, Father Bacik was a writer for the editorial committee which writer, lecturer and pastor who served as campus minister prepared the Catholic Bishops’ Pastoral Letter on Campus and adjunct professor of humanities at the University of Ministry “Empowered by the Spirit” (USCC 1986). Toledo for more than 30 years. Fr. Bacik is a priest of the Diocese of Toledo, ordained in 1962. He has his doctorate in theology from the University of Oxford and has published many articles and books, including Contemporary Theologians, Catholic Spirituality: Its History and Challenge, A Light Unto My Path: Crafting Effective Homilies; and most recently Humble Confidence: Spiritual and Pastoral Guidance from Rahner. He was called “one of America’s finest, most insightful theologians, with a remarkable capacity for clear writing and effective teaching” by Richard P. McBrien, Professor of Theology at University of Notre Dame. 4 Check out his work and read, watch, or listen to lectures and homilies at www.frjimbacik.org! + MALVERN RETREAT CENTER Owned and operated by the Laymen’s Retreat League, Malvern Retreat House is a spiritual sanctuary with a longstanding Catholic retreat history. As the oldest and largest Catholic retreat house in the U.S., you will bask in the history and beauty of this spiritual sanctuary, situated on 125 acres of land in Chester County, PA. Our conference retreat will be held in the McShain-Horstmann Family Life Center, which offers 50 climate-controlled rooms with private bath, six of which are handicap-accessible. There is a large Chapel and Conference Center, two smaller Conference rooms and a Dining Room.
