MEETINGS/EVENTS IN REVIEW
February: MadTree Brewing Compay with IFT speaker
On Thursday, February 18, 2016 we held our event at MadTree Brewing
Company in Cincinnati, OH.
Our presenter was IFT’s own Editor-in-Chief, Bob Swientek !
For the past 11 years Bob has been Editor-in-Chief of Food Technology magazine, the
monthly flagship publication of the Institute of Food Technologists. He is a 35-year veteran
of food, beverage and consumer packaged goods publishing and has written hundreds of
articles on food and beverage processing, packaging, ingredients, product development,
marketing, branding and business.
Bob explored the theme “What’s in My Food?”, talking about the impact of clean labeling on different aspects of the food industry including product development, manufacturing and food service, and touching the most common consumer questions when it comes to buying
food products .
Our world is changing as are the consumers and their needs. Technology brings information at their finger tips at speeds never seen in
the past, and trends and opinions are far more complex than before, thanks for this network power.
Mark Barenie, CPA, CAE , IFT’s Sr. Vice President & Chief Financial Officer also gave his insights on “What’s new at IFT”, IFT’s “Vision and Mission” and “Core Values”.
Copy of their presentation can be requested thru OVIFT Board members.
Well, besides the good presentation, we also had a fun evening of craft
beer, salad and all you could eat artisan wood-fired pizza.
Lastly we had our raffles and the winners were:
-Starbucks gift cards: Ashley Soldavini; Carmen Aldape-Farias; Kris Newton and Lew Weeks
- MadTree t-shirt: Ana Robinson and Tim Fahey
Thanks to Kelley Lowe and Natalie McElwee for organizing this event.

MEETINGS/EVENTS IN REVIEW
March: Mixology at Myrtle’s The Punch House
Tuesday, March 15, 2016 we had our Mixology event. All punches prepared by Erin “Thunder” Ennis, Wellmann’s Brands Production Manager. We had samples of four punches, always paired with delicious
food, made by chef Lisa Kagen:
1st course: Seared root vegetables
2nd course: Smoking Goose Saucisson Salame & Dry Cured Ham +smoked pears
3rd course: Coffee Rubbed Steak + local herb pesto +candied yam
4th course: Lavender Almond Mini bundt cakes with local honey cream
Myrtle’s Punch House is a warm and welcoming neighborhood bar surrounded by vintage
shops and incredible galleries. “What is a Punch House”, you might be asking yourself? Molly
Wellman chose punch as the focus of Myrtle’s because it is the traditional drink of American
gatherings, and is great to share anytime groups of people get together.
There are always four options on tap to
choose from. Myrtle’s feature punches
with recipes dating back to the 1700’s, as
well as new and innovative approaches to
this classic cocktail.
Their secret has being revealed. Check next page for some of the delicious punches !
We always have raffles ! This time we had Starbucks gift cards, and
the winners were :
• Kevin Wong (OSU)
• Cheryl Ensign (Kroger Co)
• Nathan Artrip (ADM/Wild Flavors)
• Ana Robinson (Perfetti Van Melle)
Thanks to Anna Donovan for organizing this event.
