COURSE DESCRIPTION: PROGRAM COST: This exciting program consists of nine weeks of training in a classroom, lab and externship / clinical settings. Train today for a fast-growing industry which provides competitive wages in: This nine week (193 hour) course includes lecture, classroom activities, simulated lab and an externship at a local laboratory. Currently the program fee is PART ONE (73 Hours) Classroom and lab instruction at MMCC. (Harrison or Mt. Pleasant Campus ) plus the cost of your textbook, workbook and exam book. • Hospitals and clinics • Physician’s offices • Medical and surgical centers • Veterinary clinics • Blood and plasma donation centers PART TWO (120 Hours) External “hands-on” training at a local health care facility or laboratory. The overall objectives of the Phlebotomy training program is to provide individuals with the highest level skillset to collect, transport and process blood sepeciments for analysis. $1,400 However, funding is available for qualified individuals through MI Works! or MI Rehab Services to offset some or all course costs. These health care workers draw blood and prepare samples for diagnostic testing, and they function as important members of clinical teams. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, venipuncture and blood draw micro-collection techniques. The procedures are performed on patients of all ages at clinics, hospital labs, outpatient care centers and nursing homes. Phlebotomy training often works as a stepping stone into other healthcare careers, such as medical laboratory science or nursing. Employment continues to grow fast for phlebotomists, and job rates are expected to climb over 25% in the next few years.
